Today I just got a new retainer put in and it's annoying the heck out of me. I have two of them so yeah, almost cut my tongue on the new one though.
I was just wondering if anybody else had something similiar that bothers them if they play their instrument?

My lower braces would sometime press on my gums. But it's nothing unmanageable.

I've never had braces and I play in percussion so I don't really know much about it but my friend has braces and the first time she played her intrument it cut her lip bad enough to make her get stitches. I felt pretty bad for her.

I have to get braces soon and I hope it doesn't affect my tuba playing. Which, it probably will.

My lower braces sometimes press up against my lip when I play flute. There was also a part of them that would catch my lip when I moved it, which was kind of irritating, but they don't do that anymore.

I started french horn at the end of my braces.... I played for about 3 months with braces, and it made it easier. I think it definitely help my embouchoure. Now with a retainer, I can't play. My permanent retainers don't bother me when playing, but I guess I'd have to get over those though if they did biggrin Now my night retainer covers the whole roof of my mouth and I can't stand to play with it in~~~

I started playing flute after I got my braces on. I think it's easier to play flute with braces than any reed/brass instruments. I didn't really have to much trouble adapting to playing with braces, and it wasn't much different after I got them off sweatdrop

I had braces and trying to play was hard, and because my teeth were still adjusting it hurt and ended up cutting my lips not to mention my teeth would throb if I so much as let my teeth graze my mouthpiece.

Yeah, I remember when I had braces...I finally got them off...no bands or anything but they did press against my lips, especially my fat lip. I got them off though. I hate wearing a retainer at night. I'm just glad my boyfriend is a bandgeek too.

I just typed out a huge story to tell y'all but I hit backspace by accident, and it deleted itself, so ill tell it later. but essentially I have one state awards for the best trumpet section, done very well in auditions, and been recognized by professionals with my braces on. I can play better then most kids without braces, and it was all because I set out to prove them all wrong, and in the process I fell in LOVE with my instrument, and became a monster player, who was chased down by a drum corps for a few months too. Tell yourself you can do it, and work your a** off. You will have a drive unmatched by the rest of your section and band, and it will not go unnoticed. I did get mine off, and im still recovering, but I'm using that same drive I had to recover from getting them on to recover from getting them off.

for brass instruments it should actually help because your not supposed to use alot of pressure while playing and since with braces you would probably cut yourself if you used to much pressure I feel like it would especially with higher range
but I have never had them nor am I ever going to need them hopefully so I'm glad I won't have to deal with that
