Claire stepped out onto the hot desert sands, her eyes shielded from the sun by a pair of sunglasses. Despite the time of year the desert was still a hot place during the day, and as such she wore a t-shirt, light pants and her boots. Her dark hair was pulled back into a messy sort of bun - it wasn't pretty by any means, but it was meant to be functional, not fashionable.
She unclipped a pokeball from the white belt on her hip and released a golden Pidgeot, who stretched before launching herself into the air with a loud cry. Claire let the bird stretch her wings and have a bit of fun while she switched pokeballs, releasing Zeus next. The Pikachu blinked and squinted at the sun before he squeaked and jumped onto his trainer's leg, clearly displeased with the heat of the sand.
"Off, Zeus. The sand is motivation for you today - it's hot, so don't stand in one spot too long or your paws will burn to a crisp. Now, all you have to do is chase Odette's shadow. Try to stay in it if you can."
The Pikachu looked up at his trainer, his face nothing short of incredulous - he was supposed to chase a shadow? To train? Ridiculous! He snorted but obliged, and after hissing at the sand he took off towards the bird-shaped shadow that glided effortlessly across the ground. "Odette," Claire called up to her Pidgeot, "keep flying around. Faster."
The bird happily obliged and increased her speed, watching the Pikachu below her trying to follow her shadow. He hadn't taken into account that he was running on sand - something he hardly ever had to walk on - and it was a lot harder for small paws to run on than a hard, flat surface. That, and of course his weight made the exercise a lot harder than he thought it would be.

A dark shadow suddenly passed over, obscuring the sun for a moment. It was large and had wings, thus a sizable bird. It also had a long crest that fluttered in the breeze, marking it as a Pidgeot.
Darkfeather glanced below him as he heard voices and noises, red eyes narrowing for a moment as he took notice of the other Pidgeot. He remembered her, that golden thing that thought too much of herself.
"Geot!" he cried, before circling back around and heading back in the direction he had come from.

Odette's eyes lifted upward as she noticed the other large shadow and the cry of the other bird, and her own eyes narrowed in a similar fashion. "Pidgeooot!" She called out, remembering the dark-colored bird quite well despite not seeing him for quite some time. She was almost tempted to follow the other Pidgeot to teach him a lesson, he was much too vain for his own good - a funny thought, coming from this bird - and wanted to deflate that ego. However, she knew Claire would disapprove, so she simply veered quickly off to the side.
Zeus flailed and slid in the sand when Odette suddenly changed directions, and he bounded across the sand awkwardly in an attempt to catch up with her shadow. He was failing pretty spectacularly, his form of 'running' looked more like 'awkward stumble-jogging'. Claire watched the pathetic display and sighed, putting her right hand on her hip. "Pick up your paws and hurry it up, Zeus," she called to the Pikachu. It would take him a while but he would soon get used to running in the sand. It might take a few days, but he would.

That was like the pot calling the kettle black. While it may have been true, Odette certainly didn't have any room to judge. After the black Pidgeot disappeared into the distance, it was a few minutes later that he and his owner showed up to where Claire was training her Pokemon.
The blonde agent came over the crest of a hill with a parasol in one arm, and a white Eevee in the other. Darkfeather landed next to her, the Pidgeot looking sleeker than normal with his feathers pressed against him. It was hot, and his black plumage didn't help him at all. Nikki watched with some amusement as the Pikachu ambled about in the sand.
"Looks like that yellow rat is a bit out of shape. Perhaps you should monitor his diet a bit more. Losing some extra weight wouldn't hurt."

Whether or not Odette had any room to judge was of no concern to her, because judge she did. She was obviously the better of the two - the best of any bird - and every bird needed to learn this undisputable fact.
"Oh--" Claire paused, looking up towards where the agent was headed towards her. Immediately she lifted her right hand - still her only usable hand, unfortunately - to salute her superior. Violet eyes behind the dark lenses flitted between both of her pokemon. "Agent Nikki, pleasure to see you again. And yes," she said with a sigh as she lowered her arm and looked towards the Pikachu who was still struggling to keep up with Odette's shadow, "he's been a little on the chubby side ever since before I caught him. He's been on a diet this whole time, except when I broke my arm he somehow got it into his head I wouldn't be able to supply him with food ever again, so he took it upon himself to turn into a veritable glutton," Claire explained with a grimace.
"Thankfully that behavior stopped, and he's been on the treadmills in the training rooms on a daily basis since then, but despite this he's still chubby. He must be more sneaky about his snacking now..." The last sentence was spoken a bit quieter as she thought aloud. It would explain why he was still fat despite her monitoring. Maybe he was getting out, snacking as much as he could for fifteen or twenty minutes, then getting back in without her noticing? Hmm...

"Then you should keep him in his pokeball more often. Let him out only for exercise and other necessary things. That way he can't sneak food when you're not looking."
A part of disciplining Pokemon, came with disciplining yourself. To Nikki, the solution was easy enough, Claire would just have to get more strict with her management if she wanted results.
"Perhaps some real battles would help shape him up as well."
Darkfeather thought little of the golden Pidgeot female as well. He practically snubbed her, paying the other bird no attention and instead looking between the two human women. They were far more interesting after all.

"That's what I have been doing, actually. He learned how to escape his pokeball and the sneaky little rat would wait until I was asleep before he'd make his escape. He has stopped that, though, after plenty of threats and being locked in my closet, so maybe he's just naturally big-boned or something..." Of course, that didn't mean she'd lighten up on his training.
"Real battles would help, I'm sure.. He hasn't been in one of those in quite a while," she said with a thoughtful frown. Not since before she'd caught him, and he would've lost that one big time if she and Odette hadn't intervened. "He could definitely use one."
Odette was treating Darkfeather to the same, and not bothering to spare him even a glance as she glided through the air. Unlike him, the sun gleamed off her light-colored feathers and she didn't have to worry about getting too terribly hot.

"They do make locks for pokeballs you know." Nikki told her with an unimpressed tone. Something obviously wasn't working if that Pikachu was still fat and out of shape. How could this grunt know so little? ... Well she was still a grunt. And besides, that rat was an electric type, she care that much about it. The only electric types Nikki cared about were ones that flew.
"Lets have a battle then. My Pokemon could use a work out too."
The ears of the Eevee in her arm perked up at the mention of a battle. Red eyes looking up at her owner with a pleading look. "Vee vee?"

The tone in Nikki's voice and the agent's attitude was getting on Claire's nerves - it had when they met once before, too - but since the other woman was her superior she said nothing and her face remained impassive behind the sunglasses. She had known that actually and had altered the mechanics on Zeus' pokeball - thus past-tense and a reason for why he'd stopped - though she did lock his pokeball in the closet just in case he learned how to escape that as well. She'd been monitoring his diet, monitoring his training and work-outs - but it hadn't been too long yet, and changes didn't happen overnight. If he didn't shape up within a few weeks, then something would definitely be wrong. But for now, he still had time.
"Alright," she agreed, turning to the Pikachu that was still chasing Odette's shadow. It seemed he was getting used to the strange terrain and was doing a lot better than when he'd first stumbled around on the sand. "Zeus, come here."
Obediently (and gratefully) the electric-type altered his course and made a bee-line for his trainer, slowing to a jog before he stopped in the small shadow she created. Bright green eyes looked up to study the other woman and her two pokemon, and it was obvious he was quite unimpressed. Some boring-looking woman with another large bird - he disliked all birds - and the only interesting one was the white Eevee the human held in her arms. "Zeus," Claire said as she looked down at the Pikachu for a quick once-over to see if he was in good shape for a fight, which he was, "battle."
"Chuu," he replied to acknowledge that he understood, and one ear twitched as he looked at the other human's two pokemon again. Hopefully he'd battle the white Eevee since he'd obviously have no chance against a fully-evolved Pidgeot.

"No." Nikki told the Eevee sternly without even looking down at her. "The sun isn't good for you." Byakko's ears fell and disappointment was clear in her expression. But... but... she wanted to battle too! Bira got to battle all the time, why couldn't she?
The blonde haired woman considered the Pikachu for a moment before taking a Pokeball. Something easy, but not -too- easy. Several of her Pokemon were flying types after all, but she had a few that weren't. She then tossed it, and in a flash of light, her Torkoal appeared.
"Honu, use Smokescreen."
"Torkoal!" The fire Pokemon bellowed, waddling forward before belching out a thick cloud of black smoke from his mouth and the top of his shell.

The Pikachu's tail twitched as he jumped away from his owner, watching curiously as instead of the Eevee, a large rock-thing appeared nearby. No, not a rock-type, it was... fire? It had to be with all that smoke billowing out of it, otherwise he'd be in big trouble.
"Zeus, Thunder wave." It would be nice if it hit, but if not, that didn't matter too much due to the Pikachu's static ability. It would still be advantageous to paralyze the other pokemon early on, but it wouldn't be too terrible if it wasn't.
The spots on his cheeks immediately began to spark as the mouse pokemon rushed through the smoke towards the Torkoal. The accuracy-reducing attack made it hard for him to see, but he could make out a dark blob through the smoke that was very much Torkoal-shaped, so he aimed his Thunder wave and fired a shot of electricity at his target.

The thunderwave managed to hit, and the Torkoal's body stiffened up with paralysis. "K... koal."
That was not unexpected though, it was a common thing for a Pokemon to get paralyzed when against a Pikachu. However, this meant that the Torkoal would be slowed down even more, probably allowing the rat to get another attack in.
"Focus and use Fire Spin," Nikki told the Torkoal. Fighting the stiffness in its limbs, the Pokemon's shell became ablaze before its mouth opened again. A stream of flames aiming to surround the Pikachu.

After the Thunder wave Zeus kept moving - the sand was hot! - so when the woman spoke again he was already running away from the attack in a semi-circle around the Torkoal to attempt to avoid it, though it was slow going.
"Zeus, Quick attack to avoid it," Claire called. If she remembered right, the Torkoal's attack had a lower accuracy - not by much, but at least it was something - so maybe if Zeus ran fast enough he could avoid it altogether. Hopefully.
The Pikachu picked up speed and kicked up sand as he dashed forward, managing to avoid the fiery vortex barely though did not come out unscathed - his now smoldering tail proved that. He growled before swerving and heading for the Torkoal through the smoke.

Hm.. well then. The Pikachu was now moving faster with the aide of its Quick Attack. Perhaps Claire should have had him use that while exercising.
"Another Smokescreen." She called to her Torkoal, but the fire Pokemon was unable to comply as paralysis gripped it, causing Honu to be unable to move.
Darkfeather watched with an expression akin to disgust. That Torkoal was such a novice and weak compared to him. Byakko watched intently, murmuring quietly in compassion for her teammate.

She had her own reasons for not wanting him to use Quick attack while exercising, and watched the pair before her next command. "Thunderbolt." Thankfully the Torkoal was unable to lower Zeus' accuracy further due to paralysis.
Despite this the Pikachu was still under the effects of the first smokescreen, but he was glad not to be exposed to another bout of thick smoke. While still close to the Torkoal after his previous attack, sparks flew from his cheeks before Zeus loosed a Thunderbolt, hoping the attack would be successful despite the still-present smoke around the pair.
