It wasn't stalking, not really since he wasn't following her around all the time. He just kind of travelled in roughly the same direction since he wasn't going any particular way anyway. And Fenja was nice so he might as well catch up with her now and then, have a chat, see if she wanted to share a tree. Hantan'gang had become quite good at tracking while he was at it too, because she sure moved oddly when she travelled. Mom would probably cuff him or bite him for practicing tracking on something as useless (and potentially dangerous) as a lion, but Hantan figured it might be useful in some way. Or something. And Fenja wasn't like other lions, she was pretty much half leopard and not dangerous at all. Not that everything had to be useful, it was fun talking to Fenja and that was enough of a reason.
They had last bumped into each other a few nights ago and the young leopard had since managed to catch a fish. He thought Fenja might want to know of his success so he had started tracking again. If he hadn't been so focused on Fenjas scent, and so distracted by imagining how impressed she would be that he had managed to catch his own fish, he might have wondered about the rather strong stink of hyena in the area. There were hyena tracks mingling with lioness ones (double sets, or was she backtracking again?) but they were at least a day old so he didn't worry too much. Hyenas were even more despicable than lions according to his mother, and he had yet to stick around one long enough to form another opinion. It seemed unhealthy to do so...
His mother would not have been proud of the way he was behaving at the moment. Not only was he tracking a lion, leopard enemy number one, he was also blatantly disregarding a very strong scent of hyena. Stronger and fresher than the tracks he was seeing. This could not end well.

Liekko had been lingering around the area for no good reason, though the hunting was pretty decent. Not that he'd ever have admitted that to a soul, haha! All things were his own secret, for others to either figure out themselves or never know! He gave a small giggle that ended in a hiccup, which made him grin fiercely, though exactly why even he couldn't have told, if he'd felt inclined to share. Which he never did!
These sort of swirls of thought, a lion biting its own tail, were genereally how he spent his days, wandering in similarly endless circles. He was merrily watering a tree whilst chewing on his overlong bangs when he spotted something moving. He kicked his hind leg a couple times, then took a step away from the tree. A careless swish of paws scattered dirt ineffectively before he trotted off towards the movement.
When he drew nearer, his tongue lolled out in pleasure. What did he have here? Some young feline on a quest! He bared his teeth, though without aggression, and began softly padding to intercept the figure. When he was within speaking distance and still apparently unnoticed, he began to feel snubbed. What call had this cub to ignore him? Feeling provoked, he leapt out of hiding, directly in front of the focused cat. "LOOK OUT!" he shouted, and threw himself flat on the ground, paws shielding the top of his nose as best he could.

There had probably been two lionesses here, and several hyenas. A small part of his brain tried to tell the rest of it that the sound just there had sounded very much like a faint... hyenaish... giggle? Never mind. This had been a fight from the look of it... and was that blood? But before Hantan could make more sense of what had happened here a night or so ago Liekko made his dramatic entrence.
"Ahh!"
Hantan nearly jumped out of his fur from the chock, and he would have bolted right up a tree if there had been one within reasonable distance. As it was he would have to run through the hyena to reach one. He did consider that option, but getting closer to the other animal was not a tempting prospect. With no reasonable options, and an unknown threat that even scared this hyena he pressed his stomach against the ground, making himself as flat and small as possible.
"What," he hissed with ears flattened against his skull, "what the? WHAT?"

His smug satisfaction was hidden behind his paws, and was nearly gone by the time he lifted one paw cautiously, then the other. He peered about from his position on the ground, and then he lifted his head slowly. "Huh," he commented ruminatively, "it seems to have gone." He sat up fully then, raising a hind leg to gnaw at an insect bite there. "Didn't you see it?" he demanded then, dropping his leg to stare avidly about at the sky. He had to admit, it was much more fun when others played along, but he'd have gone on with his act whether the feline had expressed skepticism or not. "Ah well, looks like it's gone," he concluded in calm acceptance.
"Name's Sesso," he introduced himself by a false name. He never used the same name twice, or at least not to his knowledge. They were random, off-the-cuff names, created from the ramblings in his head. He grinned lopsidedly at his audience. "What's your name, sport?"

"See the what now," Hantan said and looked around like a nervous cat, "A bird? I was looking at the tracks..."
Their evasive manoeuvres had messed up the entire fighting scene and Hantan wasn't sure what was what anymore. Twin pairs of lioness tracks led out of it, apparently without hurry, so he supposed Fenja was ok at least.
"I'm Hantan," he said, mildly annoyed at being called sport. "It wasn't a flying lion, was it?"
Sesso seemed awfully calm after the attack, or whatever it had been, but Hantan had a harder time relaxing. Something that seemed to have gone now had scared the hyena into hiding, however ineffective hiding behind your own paws might be... A hyena was only a few paces away from him, and while he seemed friendly now, you never knew. Right? Oh, man... He should have stayed at the fishing hole another day.

Oooh, what a delicious idea! A flying lion! He'd have to keep that one in mind for another time. For now, he'd rather keep this young amusement off-balance. "What? A flying lion? Who ever heard of such nonsense!" he declared scornfully. "What kind of world o you live in, thinking up such ridiculous ideas?" He strutted off in a random direction, then turned and looked back. "I wouldn't stay out in the open if I were you, though," he added ominously. "The Ghost Teeth might just get you."
What fun this little cat was! The hyena was have a merry old time. Why, it looked nearly like Hantan's tail was likely to fluff up soon from fright! He decided to add a little more to his tale. "The last ones through here managed to get away, but you're a bit scrawny, so I don't know if you'd make it." He eyeballed him intently, contorting his face in skepticism. "But if you want to chance it, it's your hide," he finished, shrugging as if he didn't care. "Don't say I didn't warn you!"

"It's just that..." Hantan started, but the hyena was already on his way, "A lion told me there were flying lions..."
He cringed at how stupid it sounded when he said it, and then looked nervously over his shoulder at the mention of ghost teeth. It sounded just as crazy as flying lions, but something felt decidedly off about the entire situation. The tiny voice of self-perseverance in the back of his head yelled at him as he took a few uncertain steps towards the hyena. And what was that last part? Someone else had encountered whatever ghost teeth was. Perhaps it was a hyena pack or something?
"Did you meet her," he blurted, adding two and two together and arriving at Fenja, "I mean... Is she all right?"

"Well now, I might have," he answered blithely, mind working furiously. How could he twist this little nugget? "She was desperate to find someone, and asked me if I'd seen him." Muwahaha, this was going to be good! "Frantic and in tears, no less, saying how she'd wronged him and how her heart beat for him." He kept strolling away, though, not stopping. He looked about himself as if nothing more important than the weather was being discussed.
It somehow didn't feel like it was enough, though. He decided to throw in another detail. "She was limping, though," he said, pausing as if it had just occurred to him. "Oh dear, perhaps the ghost teeth did that." He frowned mightily, giving his companion a look of alarm. "If that's so... oh dear." He shuddered his hide in distress and lopped his ears to the side in a most mournful way.

Hantan was just getting more and more confused for every word the hyena said. It didn't make sense, but some things made just enough sense for him to worry that they might be true. The ghost teeth part didn't make any sense at all, but that's what he had thought about flying lions too. He wondered if Sesso had met Fenja or if it was another lioness, but with Fenja's tracks all over this place... She had always seemed so calm and collected and it made little sense that she would break down crying. But if she had... Oh, his head hurt. And what was Sesso saying now?
"Was she hurt?" he almost shouted after the hyena, "And why would it be worse if the ghost teeth did it? Did she say who she was looking for?"
He felt angry that another male might have made her cry, but there was also a tinge of jealousy that he preferred not to acknowledge. Because she couldn't have been looking for him, right?

"Oh, she was looking for her one true love, whom she'd overlooked for so long but now finally realized was someone she couldn't live without," he chimed in a sing-songy manner, which unto itself should have tipped off anyone in his right mind. The truth was, Liekko was tiring of his game. This kid was gabby and demanding, and it was tiring to keep answering his questions with new twists. Oh, it was all good fun, but enough was enough. "But I don't remember anything more." He suddenly stopped and threw himself down on the ground dramatically. "Oh it's sooo saaaad,!" he wailed, sobbing into his paws. "She was so young and beautiful! But now... now we'll never see her again!"
He was so good, actual tears traced down his face, dampening the soil beneath him with crocodile tears. He kicked his feet and howled and then rolled about madly on the ground, making absolutely no sense at all. Let the foolish kitty make of it what he would! In a flash Liekko was up and digging around in the dirt under a bush, kicking up a dustcloud and muttering to himself, the only audible word of which was "grubs.." Having apparently found what he wanted, he sat up, smacking his dirt encrusted lips before his eyes caught sight of the cat's stripey form. Squinting hard, the hyena jutted his lower jaw aggressively. "Here, who are you? Trying to steal my grubs? Off with you!" With that he leapt up to his paws and charged at the poor, confused feline.

Hantan flinched as the hyena collapsed in a wailing heap. He started to back away slowly, not sure what to think about this new development. It couldn't be good. On one paw, it might be polite to check if the hyena was okay. On the other... It was still a hyena! He was about to ask, but the howls and frantic digging reinforced his impulse to back away. He just hoped this... whatever it was... wasn't catching. If something in this place caused creatures to behave erratically it might explain a crying Fenja. But... Augh! Confusing. Was he starting to become affected too? The young leopard reeked of fear and the whites of his eyes were showing. And "Sesso's" next little act did nothing to soothe his nerves.
"Buh?" he said, as Sesso suddenly turned aggressive. "No... I..." Oh, there was a reason mother had warned him about hyenas. They were stark raving mad apparently! Not to mention those mean looking fangs. Hantan didn't wait to see what would happen next, instead he ran as fast as he could, away from this confusing and suddenly violent creature.
