Hogwarts 101: Your Guide to Harry Potter RP What we have below is a guide to roleplay here, what is acceptable and where you should roleplay.
It will be assumed that you have read this guide thoroughly before roleplaying here. Ignorance will not be an acceptable excuse.

General RP Terms There are lots of terms for RPing that not everyone will be familiar with. This post will serve a little introduction to some of the things you can expect in a RP.
RP -- Role Play
OC -- Original Character (Used for non-canon characters that people create.)
Canon -- Canon Character (This refers to any character or event from the actual HP books. ie. Ron Weasley or Voldemort.)
IC -- In Character (This just means you're playing as your character.)
OoC -- Out of Character (You are not playing your character. ie. Plotting, Chatting)
ORP -- Open RP (Place in Title, this lets you know that the RP is open for anyone to join at anytime.)
PRP -- Private RP (Place in Title, this means the RP is between a set number of characters and is not open for anyone to join.)
SOLO -- Single-person RP (Place in Title, this means the RP is just one character. Can also be an event log.)
DUEL -- Private RP (Place in Title, when hosting a duel between two or more characters.)
God Moding -- (Excessive control of another's character, or making your character unrealistically immune to attacks or spells. Do not do this!)
Mary Sue -- (A character who is "too perfect" to be considered realistic. Try to avoid going overboard with this.)

Rules
Most of this is common sense. The most important information is near the top. ALL rules from the main shop apply. The most important information is at the top.
● Gaia ToS applies. PG-13! Violence, swearing, and romance are acceptable within those boundaries. Just make sure you know what you can and can't get away with.
● Before you roleplay, you must post a character profile HERE. Before dueling, you must fill out the STAT SHEET and post it in your journal. (Remember to keep all of your characters in one journal! Not to be confused with the Personal Logs)
● Remember you are in the Harry Potter world! That means most muggle items aren't allowed in the castle. Electronics DO NOT WORK at Hogwarts. At all. So don't use them.
● Anything staff deems too "mature" for general roleplay will be addressed accordingly. We understand that people have varying tastes when it comes to subject matter, but no matter what you do with your character, be respectful. Please remember that there may be real, live counterparts out there who do not always appreciate their issues being represented as a spectacle. We only ask you to be mindful; if staff receives complaints about your character and deem their behavior inappropriate, you will be contacted.
● Your character can NOT know spells and skills beyond his/her year. For example, a first year should not know how to perform wandless magic. If you have any questions about this, PM the monitoring staff! Along these lines, try not to make your character Miss Perfect.
● As standard with most RPs, no taking control of other characters without permission, and no completely desperate characters. No character deaths are permitted without good reason and permission from a monitoring staff member.
● No massive plots that alter the main story of the plot. If you really think your story might be amazing, but might interfere with things, PM a staff member to get the okay. Normal plots between one or two characters, however, do not need to be cleared.
● Characters may only be played by the owners of that character or registered mule. All mule's must be registered here before they can be used for play. Mules are not mandatory, so please don't feel the need to make one.
● Keep chat-speak out of RPs. Your character will not say "brb" your content shouldn't include "u" as a substitute for "you."
● RPs should consist of more than one line each post. While we understand when you just can't think of anything to say, we don't want to see it happening all the time.
● Refrain from super small, or super bright, fonts, if only because people are expected to READ your post in order to respond to it.
● Keep OOC problems out of the role-play. If you have a problem with one of the RPs/RPers, don't make a show in the thread. Please PM a staff member to deal with the situation. Fighting is not a great way to get what you want.
● Make sure you help move the plot along just as much as your partner in each post. Don't leave all the work to someone else! It'll be boring that way.If you have doubts about anything please don't hesitate to shoot a message to one of the monitoring staff members.

Areas of the Wizarding World We will add areas as we grow into an even larger wold. For now, this is a description of the areas we have and what sorts of things go there.
Headmaster's Office - Staff Hangout
This, naturally, is a staff only area where we might do silly things like debate who would win in a contest between Plastic Man and Mr Fantastic or come up with ideas for future events.
Quibbler - role-play plotting zone (OOC only)
This is where you advertise for plots you want to do (see rules) and pimp out your characters for roleplay. Do not roleplay in this forum.
Hogwarts Castle
This is, naturally where any roleplay in the castle (with the exception of common rooms and the RoR) takes place.
Room Of Requirement (permission only)
An area only unlocked for special events or with permission from staff. If the room is unlocked and you post without permission your post will be deleted and all roleplay lost. This serves as your only warning.
Common-rooms
Each common room is for role-play with other students of that house. Any sneaking or shenanigans must be approved by staff.
Restricted Wing
To be opened at a later date.
Grounds of Hogwarts
Any roleplay that takes place on Hogwarts grounds but not inside it.
Forbidden Forest
Currently forbidden. Permission to play here must be obtained from staff. Also note that playing there may come with unexpected consequences.
Locked Doors
You will encounter these from time to time. They are areas to which you have no access and probably shouldn't worry too much about.
Assignment Board
Here, you will be able to find assignments. You must complete a certain number of them for each stage of growth!
When playing a scene in more then one area (i.e. Playing in Hogwarts and moving to Grounds) please start a new scene and place a link to the new scene in the old one and the old scene in the new one. If both sections are of a decent length and have good content independently, the may count as two roleplays. Other than that, they count as one.

Spells, Potions and Magic Items Rather then make a list here of spells we are just going to link you to a wonderful resource that already contains more then we could dream of writing here.

Warning
While these are all inclusive lists, we ask that you remember what year your student is and only use spells according to not only their year but talent. If this is being abused continually, then we will make a drastically reduced list of spells and limit characters to only using what their character is able. If you have doubts, please consult staff.
