A note This takes place after the meeting with Kimaji. Kiburi had left the Mistweaver borders at a brisk trot. The water she had found in the lake had seemed to cleanse her of her weariness and although she was a little tired her excitement drove her onwards.
There were so many things she wanted to see and hear and to her the adventure was just beginning. Her heart soared and her eyes sparkled with a thousand dreams that she hoped would become reality. Her imagination had wings of its own and she felt ready for anything. Kiburi felt on top of the world!
She paused to lie in the shade of a lone tree, panting as she realised how burnt her ears felt. The skin beneath the fur felt like it was on fire and she knew that if she strayed any further now she'd most likely be knocked down by heat stroke.
So it was here in the shade of the tree where she lay, drowsing as she relished the warmth on her back and the scent of a million lions who had passed this way before her.
She watched as the sun dipped downwards from its zenith and as the shadows lengthened across the dusty ground.

A faint jingle of rings clattered above the young lioness as bat-like wings fanned. Perched upon a low lying branch rest the God of Nightmares. Front paws crossed in front of him, one hind leg dangling comfortably while the other lay curled under him and his wings balanced his tiny form. It was certainly a sight to see. It certainly wasn't everday one saw a lion resting comfortably in branches of a tree, that was more a leopard's territory.
A smirk danced upon the young God's maw as he looked down on young Kib. "Well I see you followed through with your plans." He spoke casually before resting his head on his front paws. "Are you enjoying your freedom from your pride?"

At first Kiburi thought she had imagined the faint jingling sounds and had been content to simply lean back against the tree trunk and listen. It was only when the voice followed suit that she realised she was alone no longer. She was on her paws in a second, whirling around to gaze up into the boughs of the tree with nervous but curious eyes.
The nervous look was lost to pure excitement however as she spotted the dark, bat-winged lion lying on the branch above her.
"Oh!" Her eyes lit up, "Master Baku!" She reared up on her hind legs, placing her forepaws against the tree trunk so she could get a better look at him. "It's you! You kept your promise!" She couldn't believe that the God lion had spent some of his precious time to come and talk to her.
"Yes, yes I'm enjoying it very much so! Being a rogue is a wonderful feeling Master Baku." She felt the God deserved being refferred to as such, for though she thought highly of herself she knew he deserved much more respect. She had always been taught to respect those of higher authority, and she was pretty sure that Baku was more imortant than a King.

Kimeti raised a brow at the new addition to his name. It was certainly a wonderful addition and had a nice ring to it. 'Master Baku'...yes, he could certainly deal with such a title, especially coming from a mortal. Finally atleast one of the worthless beings knew how to address him. It was about time.
Lazily he drawled, "Of course I kept my promise. It certainly wouldn't be...kind of me to not keep my words." He yawned, stretching his wings out in the process before folding them against his back. The leathery folds rustling slightly in the process.
"The life of a rogue is certainly entertaining, but it appears as if you haven't strayed too far from your pridelands. You have only made it to the Mistweaver pridelands. I expected you to have journeyed a little further by now. There are many more lands for you to see." Baku lifted his head before getting to his paws. Claws dug into the bark of the tree to help keep him balanced but his wings, now fanned out again, took care of most of that. "I assume you have not see the land of sand then if you have only made it this far." He spoke casually and flippantly.

She listened to the sound of his wings as if enchanted by them and smiled up at Baku with shining eyes. Oh he was truly a wonderful male indeed! Her heart gave a flutter as she watched him move his dark pinions and she dropped to all fours once more.
"Master Baku is a wonderful lion if he keeps his promises." Kiburi agreed with a nod of her head, tail swishing behind her as she regarded him through idolising eyes. "You're right...I haven't gone far." She seemed a little saddened at this fact, "I met others along the way and they slowed me down, but I'm also not a very fast walker." She frowned a little at the admitance of this.
She found that she couldn't drag her eyes away from the God's form, and as he moved once more she followed the lines of his wings as they opened. He looked so much larger with them extended and extremely powerful. She was awestruck.
"Sand? What is sand Master Baku? Is it pretty?"

A cruel grin graced Baku's face before he leapt down from his perch. His large leathery wings slowed his descent and he landed with grace and little effort upon his paws and legs. "How odd that you have never heard of the land, especially coming from the Pridelands."
Closing the large wings he circled upon the youth, green eyes glistening. "It's a land of rolling golden mounds that go as far as the eye can see with not a thing marring it's golden essence." He grinned. "Only the strongest and most brave of lions dare travel there."
He lifted a paw as if to study his dagger-like claws. "A pride of lions live there whom you would certainly find interesting."

A flicker of recognition passed over her features as she listened to the God's description. "I heard a lion speak of a place that sounds similar. He said that the lions there have fur as red as blood." She had begged the brown Pridelander Sukutu to tell her about the place he had visited and had learned a little about them.
That had been a while back now though and her memory of it was faded.
"Do you think I'm strong enough to go there Master Baku? Everyone says I am weak...and I admit my stamina isn't too good.." She trailed off in a shy manner, pawing at the sand sheepishly.

"Yes, their pelts are of the redest red and they are strong and proud." He studied her, quite pleased she was falling for every word he said. If all mortals were like this he would certainly have much more to amuse himself with. He'd need to experiment later after he grew tired of playing with this new toy of his.
"You can do whatever you put your mind to. If you think you are strong then you are, if you believe what others tell you then you will not last long as a Rogue and go running back to your home with your tail between your legs."

"Oh, oh no Master Baku! I want to prove myself! I want to show my family what a strong daughter they have!" She held her head a little higher as she gazed at him. "You understand me like no one else does, not even my brother could grasp why I left." She sighed, "everyone was sad...not encouraging." Her ears drooped a little at remembering her family.
"There's a problem though...I do not know the way to this place of sand and red lions." She paused, "do you know where it is?" She hoped he did and that he would accompany her for a while longer.
It seemed her infatuation with this God was blinding her from his true intentions.
To cause harm.

Ah yes, too easy to manipulate. This mortal would create much amusement for him. All he had to do was make sure she didn't catch on to his intentions, but that was beginning to appear to be a most easy task to achieve.
"I will lead you there." With that he turned and began to head away from the cool shade the tree offered stopping only momentarily to look back at Kib. "Are you coming?"

"Yep! Wait for me Master Baku!" She chirped, running to catch up before loping at his right flank. She took a moment to catch her breath from the short run and then fell into stride with him, glad that the sun wasn't as hot as it had been before.
"How long will it take for us to get there?" She said, gazing at the horizon, "is it far?"

The God didn't bother turning to look at Kib beside him. "We should reach the border of the land by nightfall. It'll be more comfortable traveling at night once we reach the land of sand." He turned his head slightly so one eye could see the young lioness. "Once we reach the boundary you will be on your own. I will not take you any further."

Kiburi pouted at this new information and gave a small sigh, it had been a lot to hope for that he'd stay with her longer. He probably had a lot of other important things to do.
"Okay Master Baku. I just hope I don't get lost." She chuckled, "though I've been wondering, what if the pride don't want me on their land? My mother told me to stay away from other prides."

Baku walked just in front of Kiburi as he led the way across the still lush ground. By nightfall the greenery will have given way to the dead sandy land that the Firekin inhabit. Oh what fun!
"Don't worry. The pride will be...pleased to see you. They much enjoy newcomers to their lands. Besides, will you continue to follow mother's rules even as you venture on your own?" He glanced back at her. "You should think for yourself and do what you feel is right. It's the only way you'll truly survive by yourself."

"You're right Master Baku, very right!" She chirped, gazing ahead at the horizon and eagerly awaiting the sea of sand that was awaiting her. "I bet the land will be beautiful and I'm sure it will be an experience I'll always remember."
She smiled at Baku, "thank you for helping me."
