What song have you played that has a great low brass part. Last year we played a song called rampage I liked the whole song but the low brass part was the best.

Mars from The Planets Suite. Pretty intense in the lower brass. Upper winds don't have the melody often. There is a kiddie version that cuts out all the hard parts and the 2/5 section. Played it back in Middle school.

well.... Pirates of the Caribean (i just know i spelled that wrong) had some excellent tuba parts... and then there was also In the Hall of The Mountain King... Tubas had the MELODY!!! WOOT!!!! and, oh william tell overture!, and emperial march from starwars, depending on how its written, tubas can get melody, though usually it goes to trumpets and trombones... and batman... those are the only ones i can think of right now

Esprit de Corps has one section with a very fun brass part to play (low reeds played it as well, so that's how I know, haha). It's in the last half of the piece, and every time our band goes through it, we kill the upper woodwinds and their dainty run.

arabesque by samuel hazo is pretty cool and has good low brass. (though i prefer epic low woodwinds lol like la fiesta mexicana, first mvmt.) on a side note, for pep band, we played get down tonight this year, and the sousas had the bass part and our BD added a "tuba break" where it was just them playing and we all made up a dance to go with it biggrin

Symphonie Fantastique....the low brass, even the trumpets, have some cranking low parts and it sounds INCREDIBLE. We play the upper 5-lower 6 version, and its awesome. Its pretty easy, but still fun to play.

Everyone else claps. Oh and who could forget Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli??
