What? Would anyone expect anything different than a tape recorder? Theresa's on the road more than half the time, so her hands are occupied! She picked the device up on the recommendation of a fellow trucker, the man telling it helped during those long stretches of silence. Honestly, it did! So, for years, Theresa has been keeping several tapes of her own rants and monologues as journal entries. She keeps her current recorder in her pocket, while all those past tapes can be found either in her truck or in the cabinents in Kade's RV.

Fall 28th // Year 1 // Entry 1

“ Hey, just made it into town, everything looks good so far – quiet as hell, though. I mean, I can hear the trees, which is really strange. There's no cars or trucks or anything on wheels – not even a bicycle – which is even stranger.. I kinda miss the smell of tar in the morning, haha! It sounds weird, eh? I'm just in to see Kade, yeah, little brother, I've talk about him before. He's cute, more like a sister, which is rocking because I've always wanted a little sister since I got saddled with two brothers. Wonder if this is fate making it up for me? Yeah, probably. Hahah, so, the truck's back at Costin's, he'll take good care of her. But, man's too old to take her out for a spin. Poor baby's gonna end up rusting in a garage all season long. Stinks, but I'll be back soon. I'm just checking in. Heard some crazy stuff over the phone, you know, about.. uh, Kade adopting some kid, which is pretty weird. Not that Kade shouldn't have a kid, he'd be a good.. mother.. dad.. uh, one of those two things, dunno, but, yeah, he'd be good at it, I think. ..If it was a girl. -ahem- But, he's too young for that. Don't care if Kimberly is only on a business trip, I don't think even the guy he's with is ready for a kid. Don't know what I can do.. I don't think orphans have a return policy. But, gotta check on him. Mom and Dad would kill me if I ignored it. ”

Fall 12th // Year 5 // Entry 2

“ God, it's been a hell of a long time, hasn't it? Can't blame me – this was just for the road, not when I was at home.. But, I ought to continue with this, I guess? Have nothing better to do than to update what's been going on.. I listened to the last tape – been awhile. I've been on the island for.. four, five years. Haven't left it once.. My truck got sold awhile ago.. Costin's dead, so I let it get auctioned off with the rest of his junk, help pay for his funeral, you know.. I didn't go to it. Too much going on.. and didn't have anyone to watch the kid. ..Yeah, I haven't talked about the kid yet, right? Well, he's a boy – named Junior. Cute kid, real quiet, but sweet.. Got red hair and hard to see his eyes 'cause he refuses to cut the shaggy mess, but he seems to see real well, so I don't worry too much on it. He didn't have much friends, but, eh, it was better than him having the wrong friends, am I right? ..But, he's got a set now – took a few years, but he has them. Not any one of them are a boy, but, with a dad like Kade, I don't have much hopes for him anyway.. There's more to him, but, I don't know who's listening right now. Quiet as a ghost at night, you know? Well, we got a house – I got a damned house.

Kade got therapy, Jacob.. I don't even know what's up with him. He's sleeping at the church after failing getting into the priesthood – didn't even think you could fail that – and claims to be Nirvani's priest.. which would have pissed grandpa off something fierce if he wasn't dead. Mom and dad seem to be happy about it.. Kade's back on his salon, I started a daycare center – you know, I'm already raising a bunch of kids anyway, may as well get paid for it, right? Uh.. Yeah.. what else? ...Oh, I was.. dating someone. First one was a cute guy, but, eh, he really just needed someone to get his game back up, so I ended it sometime ago.. Got with another.. 'man'. Yeah, real man he was. I don't know what I was on when I jumped into bed with that loser! Better off without him – I was going to leave him anyway, we were together for too long, and I've seen puppies hung better than that jack off. God damn it, I need a drink – but, later. I have to drop Kade off at Ilya's. Girls pregnant or.. something, I don't know. Kade says he wants to see her ASAP and who am I to let him walk? Hey, Ilya's my friend too! I have a right to see the chick if I want to, damn anyone who wants to say otherwise! ”

“ Just got back from Kaleb's place. One word. Damn. They aren't doing too well, that's the truth. Ilya lost the baby and been hiding in her room, sobbing her heart out, while Kaleb's just been trying hard – real hard – to get her back on her feet. Kade's joining in – he's been talking nothing but how he's gonna do all he can – but.. I don't know. I'm just worried about them – the both of them. Ilya seems pretty down on it – a little too down – and Kade.. Kaleb, the guys – both got too much of a heart, you know? They'll invest everything into it and I don't want them to get.. uh, well, disappointed. I should be more worried over Ilya, huh? Ah, well, we were never close and Kade's Kade, while Kaleb is.. uh, yeah. That. [/cough] I'll just head off now – got to go scrub puke out of the carpet in the daycare. Again. No idea what that Xochi kid's folks feed her, but, damn, s**t gets everywhere. Like a horror scene or something. Anyway, gotta get.”
