The sun had only made an appearance in the sky a couple of hours ago but Roman was already on the move. He had no definite plan today for what he was going to do, he still wanted to master the technique of lift off from a stationary position but his wings were so sore from failed attempts that it was hard for him to muster the motivation. Wincing as he stretched out his deeply golden hued wings he pointed his nose in the direction from which he had come last night. Had it really only been last night that he had conversed with Briallan? For whatever reason it seemed as though it had been an entire lifetime ago. Before he knew what was happening he had begun walking in that direction once more. He didn’t have anything better to do with his day and that creek yielded some pretty sweet water. Perhaps he would just grab a drink and begin heading in a more eastward direction. He didn’t have a destination, something that unsettled him sometimes but that is what happened when one had no family, no home. His skin quivered as a fly landed upon his withers shaking him from the thoughts he had begun sinking into.
After a relatively long walk through the grassy plains he found his hooves once again at the bank of the creek. The hoof prints he had left the night before still visible, his eyes drifted across the water where he could see the ones she had left behind as well. He smiled slightly at the triangular cut out in the front of the print. He had to wonder what kind of advantages and disadvantages those with split hooves encountered. A small breeze picked up, causing his red and white striped hair to blow softly. The eye that wasn’t concealed behind fiery bangs glanced down at the water and his head soon followed as he took a deep drink, just as he had the night before.

She'd followed the trail out of her own den within her herd ands and looked to the sky. What a wonder the world below must lok like to some one flying so high above. Smiling she shook the thought away with a shake of her head. her tail waggled as she walked the trail the lead away from the herd and to the creek. A nice drink would be good to start with before she'd focus on her day's goal. Her mother had told of when she and her father first met and their discussion of water soquili. She wondered what one might look like. Well suppose she could find one... What then?

The cool water slid refreshingly down Roman’s throat and for the moment that was all his mind was focused on. The earth had begun to grow warmer as the sun made its slow ascent into the sky. Once the last mouthful of water was swallowed he turned his icy blue eye skyward. Today would be a lovely day, free of clouds. Stretching his wings out painfully once more he contemplated taking a flight today, surely the warmth would feel good on his aches and pains. Just as he was about to start off into a trot he noticed something white approaching. It couldn’t be? Could it? Folding his wings tight to his sides once more he crossed the stream and began trotting towards the glimmering shape. It looks almost as though it sparkled in the sun, surely that couldn’t be Bri could it?
A chuckled emanated from deep within his chest as he slowed to a walk, taking in the familiar sight of the white mare he had met only last night. “Primrose! I am uncertain as to whether I should thank my lucky stars for bumping into you or contemplate why I am cursed.” He joked. Coming to a stop he waited for her to reach him, figuring she had been walking in that direction for a reason. She looked different in the daylight then she had when the sun was waning. He had always found it interesting how appearances could change merely with the differences of lights.

Chuckling softly, she'd taken the joke for what it was, a joke, nothing more. "I guess maybe you should do both?" She shook her head making her way to the stream and getting a drink before looking up. "You caught me out on my way to the lake..." She grinned wide. "I heard my parents mention the water soquili and so i figure.. might as well see if I can see what one looks like..."

Once she reached him he fell into step beside her, when he had first spoken he worried he had upset her once again but now he felt more at ease as she returned the humor. He nodded in a response and shook his head in an attempt to uncover his hidden eye. For a moment the red forelock shifted to the side but it came right back again and he found himself defeated. Her next words confused him ever so slightly. Water soquili? Was that some kind of joke? He hadn’t ever heard of water soquili. Giving an indignant snort he rolled his eyes. “Yea right, is that supposed to be some kind of a bedtime story or something?” At this particular juncture he was uncertain as to whether or not she was being serious or if she was just messing with him.

She shook her head some. "Nope, Both mother and father said that apparently there are water soquili bound only to the water.. they can't live on land like we do. also that there's a kind.. Kelpi i think they called it that can between both worlds... though they say kelpi are evil.. and like to drown unsuspecting soquili..."

He was taken aback a moment and stopped walking, there were soquili who could only thrive in water yet there was one that desired to kill innocents by dragging them to the depths. Flicking his ears back in slight annoyance he began walking brusquely to catch her again. “I still think this is a mere story but,” he paused and gathered his thoughts, “you are planning on going alone to some random lake in search of a figment which could potentially kill you?” In his mind he pictured this frail being at the edge of the lake and some fishlike creature popping out and clenching her in its fangs. “How do you plan on protecting yourself if it is factual, which it most likely isn’t, in the first place?

She grinned wide at him. "Well if you're that worried you can come along.. I was going to find my sister but if you come I won't have to deal with her recklessness.." She broke into a trot. "Besides.. What if we see one of the water only ones? Wouldn't that be something?" She giggled tossing her hair out of her face some with a shake of her head.

Heat rose in his cheeks and he knew they had been touched with a slight pink coloration. Him? Worried over her? The discomfort reached clear into the pit of his stomach, causing it to feel bubbly. Shaking his head he snorted and attempted to play of his embarrassment so she wouldn’t notice. “As if, I wasn’t worried I was just curious.” He watched her move away from him at a trotting pace, crinkling his nostrils and lowering his head he had to think a moment. He had just said that he wasn’t worried about her so following her would disprove his words. Wouldn’t it? Looking up he watched as the distance grew between them and again the vision of the fishlike creature with her in his gaping maw flitted to his mind’s eye. With a deep, exasperated sigh he picked up his pace until he was by her side once more. “I will follow only to satisfy my own curiosity about these tales.” His tone was matter-of-factly and he lifted his head in pride. Now she wouldn’t think twice about him coming along because he was worried.

Smiling, she nodded. "Of course." She figured better but it was best to give him his illusions. Tail wagging, she crow hopped a bit and broke into a run, legs stretching out with all the ease and grace of the animal her kind resembled most. She was swift despite her strange appearance.

He watched, a smile painting his countenance, as she took off into a quick run ahead of him. He hadn’t ever seen anyone do such a thing unless they were being chased, was she doing it for fun? As he watched her he began to wonder what it was like to run at such a speed. Certainly he was fast, but running with wings was a difficult task. They always managed to get in the way and decrease the aerodynamics that gave way to true speed. Her breed must have a gift for running and being light on their feet. He began to wonder how wrong about her he had been the night before when telling her she wouldn’t be able to evade an attack. The moment he realized he was being left behind he took off into as fast a run as he could manage and stretched out his wings. It seemed so effortless and normal to him; flight was a part of who he was. With one solid flap of his gilded wings he was in the air, rejoicing in the kiss of the wind in his mane and on his face. With another few flaps he had caught up to her and was soaring with her. She was running and he was flying, it seemed like such an odd combination but a cool one at the same time.

She heard the flap of wings above her and chuckled loudly. Still she ran heading for the lake. At this pace it wouldn't take them very long to get there. Just what would they find? She pondered this as the neared the lake. She could smell the water ahead. "We're nearly there! I can smell water!" She called out slowing to a trot. She took this moment to glance up at him in flight. He looked at peace and at home riding the wind's back. She had to wonder.. just what flight felt like..

He looked down at her running form beneath of him. From this angle his shadow cast his wings over her back and it seemed as though she were flying across the ground. How fun it would be to race Bri, to test their true speed. He heard her call up to him about smelling water and followed suite, inhaling deeply and catching a whiff of the musky earth that normally made the banks of water. Not to mention the air seemed to become more moist. As she slowed down he knew that if he continued to fly he would easily overtake her and leave her behind. Beating his wings against the air in front of him he began lowering himself back down to the earth. First his back hooves touched down and then his front hooves with a little ‘thud’ on the dampened earth. Folding his wings to his sides he turned and waited for her to close the little distance he had created to land. Once she had passed him he began trotting next to her once more. “It seems I truly was mistaken Primrose, those legs of yours pack some serious speed.” His tone was not so much complimentary as factorial. It was something he had noticed and had felt the need to comment on. Looking ahead of him he could see the faint blue hue of water. The would be there soon, what would they find? Would the horrid vision he had come true?

She gave a light chuckle. "So I've noticed.. It felt good to stretch them out and run." Grinning she looked to the water ahead. "Well, no turning back now.. let's hope we don't get eaten." Another chuckle as they closed the gap between themselves an the waters edge. Down below they saw shadowy forms swimming around, an occasional tail slapping the water's surface. "Did you see that!?" she squealed with excitement.

What was it like to run so effortlessly? What was it like to glide over the plains without worrying about wings to slow you down? As she mentioned stretching he unfurled his wings and stretched the out to the side, his face tweaking at the pain of his sore muscles. He knew that in order to get rid of the stiffness he had to use those muscles but he hated the feeling of hot pokers being pressed into his shoulders. “It looked like you were enjoying yourself.” Then another thought came to him, one that made his stomach churn. Had he really just used the words ‘I was wrong’ in a sentence? “I am surprised you didn’t trip though.” The afterthought was a little slow but at least it kept some of his battered pride intact.
He eyed the water suspiciously, taking note of the dark shapes moving this way and that. Had he really allowed himself to be dragged into this nonsense? He was searching for mythical creatures in the depths of a lake as opposed to working hard to improve himself. The thought disturbed him ever so slightly, he shouldn’t allow for himself to take breaks like this. He had used the time to speak to Bri instead of practicing what he should have been. His blue eye fell on his reflection in the water and he took note of his disappointed image. Perhaps he wasn’t worthy. His thoughts were interrupted when a squeak came from the mare beside him. Quickly placing a smile where the frown had been he looked out in the direction she had. Something large in the water had begun to make its way slowly towards them. If he had known then that it was a log just drifting to the shore he wouldn’t have acted in such an idiotic way. Extending his wing he pressed it against Bri’s chest as he tried to push her further away from the shore. “Watch out!” He shouted, taking a position from which he could easily fight the dastardly creature. Now he was between the mare and the creature, surely he would win.
