User ImageThe young cub needed a distraction. He needed to wander just far enough to get away from the constant blabbering of his brother, and the vicious rage of her mother. It was easy to tolerate for hours at a time, but days? Months? Would he have to put up with this his entire life?

Right now, Poikilo just wanted some space to breathe. To think. He knew his brothers would understand. He knew his mom wouldn't care. So there he was. In the savannah, all alone, exposed to the elements and the predators... completely vulnerable, like a turtle who had lost his shell. But it was okay. Because at least he could breathe. And his limping mother wasn't difficult to track down, so he was confident he wouldn't get lost.

Maybe it was because his mind was so tainted with these muddled thoughts that he didn't even notice he'd wandered too close for comfort to the fiercest of all predators. Once the pink cub had realized, it was too late to dash away safely. He was so close that a sharp little gasp escaped his maw. He'd seen lions at a distance before, but he never realized they were so... big. Poikilo's legs gave way, letting him plop to the earth as he stared in fear, and wonder at the giant feline before him.

Anolani had been on the move for a day or so, his large paws pulling him in the direction that he needed to go to. He wasn't too far from his Mother and Sister, and even if they weren't in the same place, Anolani knew roughly where he might find them.

The big male's head was abit muddled that he'd only secondarily realized another in his presence. A cub? this was no lion cub but.. perhaps a leopard? He started at the youngester with some curiousity, as.. he seemed familiar. However, it was slightly worrisome that such a young one was out all alone. Was he lost?

" Good day to you, little one. "

The big male had hoped that he wasn't too intimidating to the small cub. He meant no real harm to him, and wouldn't think to harm another's offspring. He was awfully colourful though, and it was a wonder that he hadn't been attacked before Anolani took notice of him..

The cub locked eyes with the much larger feline. Tons of emotions twisted through Poi's mind as he tried to decipher the lion's thoughts. Was he going to attack? Was he going to roar and try to scare him away? The poor fearful cub didn't know what to expect... at least, not until the stranger had spoken

Poikilo scooted backwards as the lion spoke, dirtying his tail with mud and gravel. Not only was he big but his voice was big too! But the meaning to the words were a bit more comforting, and it gave the leopard cub a flicker of hope. Perhaps the lion didn't mean any harm after all...? Now that he thought of it, mom was always rather fond of lions. It was the cheetahs you really needed to look out for.

Lifting himself to his white paws, Poikilo pretended he wasn't scared at all. But this short charade shattered when he began to speak. "G-g-good day to y-you, too." Not only was his voice unusually quiet, but the words were butchered with fumble after stutter. If Poi wasn't so fearful, his face would flush with embarrassment.

And then the awkward silence was left untamed to pursue their nonexistent conversation. Of course, Poi was certain he would be able to carry out something thrilling of an exchange if he wasn't so speechless.

Anolani caught the hint quite well, as he heard the cub speak. The lion supposed it wasn't to far a stretch to assume that the males' size was intimidating. It might also be the cubs first time coming face to face with a lion? Quite possible, considering the size of his company.

The large male decided that if his recent companion of the day was to get comfortable with him, perhaps it would be best to be on eye level with each other. And with that thought in mind, Anolani plopped down onto the ground, not minding getting a little bit dirty.

" Why so far from home? "

Poikilo was startled when the giant feline decided to join him among the dirt of the earth. The pink cub quickly got over his fear once the lion's harmless voice sounded once again. And now that the lion appeared smaller... his fear seemed to shrink as well.

As Poikilo pondered upon the lion's question, the cub was unsure of how to answer it. "I... I don't have a home." He explained, then quickly continued as he realized that could be misunderstood. "My mom is always on the move, so I don't really have a place... to be called home."

Poikilo dared himself to move closer. With enough courage mustered, Poikilo managed a step barely worthy to be called the march of an ant. But enough ant-steps accumulated could create quite a distance... and soon enough the pink cub found himself close enough to prod the very whiskers of the beast with the tip of his paw... if he stretched out far enough.

"I'm going back soon, I just needed... to breathe."

Anolani lazily curled his tail as he hear the cubs' words. He supposed that family could be stifling, but that might have to do with the varying individuality within one's family. The large lion himself didn't seem stifled by his family, though.. his family only really consisted of his Mother and Sister.

" Home is where the heart is.. " Wise words that he'd heard before, and thought might bring some hope to the youngster before him. The heart always knows where home is, and what exactly makes that place ' home '.

" That is understandable, I suppose. "

The cub didn't understand what he meant by that... Home is where the heart is? Poikilo frowned deeply, but he found comfort in the thought that maybe this would have a meaning as he got older. Some adult-things were so hard to understand.. but everyday was a new day to absorb the meanings of the worlds.

"So..." Poi's ant steps had brought him right at the lion's neck. The pink cub even felt daring enough to prod the fluff of the feline's furry mane. "You can't stand your mom, either?" He asked distantly, half consumed by the curiosity of the foreign beast's form.
