If you asked Barth what he was doing, he might have told you researching.
He would also like to impress that researching is not working, thank you, and that you could be rest assured he was doing it for a very noble cause. He was taking a slow and very precise inventory of the most comfortable places on campus. His methods were very easy.
Drop, take a nap, collect results. As the pending President of Nap Club, he felt this was a very important job.
What he had not expected was to come across fellow researchers.
This one was currently lounging against a campus tree with what Barth could only describe as expert technique. Not one to interrupt, Barth yawned and situated himself next to the other napper. To test the area. For nap suitability. For science.

And if you had asked Ren what he was doing, he most certainly would have given you the right answer, the honest answer, the most truthful answer he could give you:
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm sleeping."
Ren loved sleep. Ren lived (if that was even possible) for sleep. He very much preferred it to being awake, because when one was awake, there was all sorts of shenanigans and roughhousing and idiocy going on around that one couldn't seem to avoid. However, sleeping was quiet. It was gentle and pleasant (most of the time) and it was a lovely reminder of all that was good in the world.
Unless you sleepwalked. Or wet the bed, neither of which Ren had ever had an issue with.
He was supposed to be in class - what was it, art, or something? Sleep was a work of art in and of itself, so he did not feel the slightest bit guilty about missing it. Besides, the tree he was leaning against was in the perfect spot - nice, roomy, with a wide overhang of branches to keep it shady and cool.
Overall, it was delightful; the best way to spend his afternoon. That was, however, until Ren - blissfully starting to doze off into wonderland - felt someone sit down beside him.
Well. That was certainly unusual. Maybe they were lost, or maybe they just hadn't seen him (hard to miss, but there were those who still couldn't see well, anyway). Ren cracked an eye open, surveying his neighbor. He didn't recognize the person that sat there, legs crossed at the ankles, head resting back against the trunk of the tree, but those horns...
A demon, Ren thought, opening both of his eyes now. "Er," he said. "Pardon me, but...
"What are you doing?"

"Researching," he said, as previously established he might. He added generously, "And you're err, pardoned."
Barth was clearly very relaxed. As though he owned the place. Or maybe just as though he was the relaxed sort.
"It's a nice tree," he observed. "Hardly any spiders."

Ren stared for a moment. "Researching?" he repeated, tilting his head. "Er...researching what, might I ask?"
The demon seemed quite comfortable where he was. Very comfortable. Like he had been sitting under this particular tree his whole life.
Ren shrugged. Oh, well.
"It's a very nice tree," he agreed, running his fingers through the cool grass beneath him and plucking a stray strand. "No spiders, gives nice shade, so you can sleep more easily. Not to mention, it's out of the way of the main walkways so there's not a very big chance of people stepping at you or being noisy."
