Leila yipped excitedly, her paws crashing playfully onto the new-fallen snow. Her tongue lolled and her breath came in pants despite the cold, and she dropped and rolled around in the new and foreign thing. It was the first time she had ever seen such a scene, with the world all around her growing such a cold pelt, and, in her eagerness, she had accidentally stepped out of bounds of the pack she was a part of. It was new and the border was not yet defined in her mind – plus, with all the snow about, it was hard to see any clear physical indication that she had overstepped the invisible lines that formed the outer ring of her pack. And, remaining oblivious to the knowledge, she continued to play.

The flakes fell gently around her, showing no signs of stopping but without threatening a storm. Curiously, she stopped her antics and burrowed her muzzle in the ground, waving her tail with delight when, just as Rove, the wise old storyteller in her pack, had told her, her breath disappeared from view. She was still new to the hunt and anxious to prove her worth. But as of now, such thoughts were only fleeting, and her attention once more returned to the snow.

It was snowing when Anahu opened her eyes. She had been asleep for a while now, since the last time she had a meal was quite a long time ago, and she felt like she just needed a long rest. And, as usual, she was right. As soon as she opened up her golden eyes, and saw the snow falling down, it was almost like all of her energy was back. Her spirit felt so alive.

She first experienced a snow day back when she was a little pup and ever since then she loved playing in the snow. Even now, when she was an adult. She kept a part of her childhood inside her soul, which made her feel free, carefree.

The Kerl got up on her paws shook the snow off of her beige coat, yawned and stretched as she was taking slow steps, looking everywhere around. She was curious to see what all her favourite places looked like covered in snow and ice. The waterfall, the rocks, the old great oak... she closed her eyes and imagined each and every single one of them.

"Beautiful..." she said to herself smiling.

She definitely didn't want to spend her snowy morning imagining what places would look like after the first snowfall of the year. She'd have plenty of time to do that. The snow always lasted long on these parts. And she enjoyed every single day of it.

She continued walking around, without a certain direction. Her paws sinking in the cold, white snow. Snowflakes falling on her light muzzle. As she was walking around directionless she noticed a pelt darker than hers. It was another Varg. She was curious to see how others felt on the first snow day. She was always surprised how different wolves saw things differently, so, she slowly started walking towards the other female.

Tayah woke to snow outside her small cave, she sighed and rolled her eyes. Snow was nice enough but it annoyed her since it made hunting much more difficult, especially with her fur color. Stepping out, she growled under her breath "dang it's cold" she muttered to herself before rolling in the snow, the white flakes sticking to her coarse fur. Hopefully it covered some of her color up but she wasn't going to hold out much hope as she moved and warmed up.

Several failed attempts later she was annoyed and fed up, head down she trudged on. She didn't notice the scent of other wolves. Shaking the rest of the snow out of her fur she sat on a small rock, clear of snow. She scratched at the leather band around her neck and it was as she was turning her head so that she could reach the worst itch, that she noticed two other wolves. She froze uncertain of the reaction she would get, were they part of a pack, did she miss a boundary marker somewhere? she didn't think so but she was careful, since she was very often mistaken for a rogue male, and not the female she was.

Leila bounded over the small slopes the snow made, enjoying the freshness in the air and the clarity of her sight. Why, it had excited her so much that, when her eyes fluttered open, heavy with sleep in the morning when the sun had just touched the sky and hung over it, she had left immediately to play instead of waiting till near-evening as most Varg often did. She had been here since then but it had yet to feel any less new to her.

Suddenly, she tripped, and found herself rolling head over paws in the snow. By the time she had slowed to a stop, her head was spinning and she could barely tell what was in front of her. Still, a familiar, bright orange pelt caught her eyes, one that she thought she would recognize anywhere. Her pack-sister had a similar one but she had left, and so Leila knew the one she saw now could be no other's.

"Tayah!" she called, and, having gotten to her paws by then, was all but ready to run towards the Kerl when a brown-pelted Drappa caught her eye. She neared and Leila, thinking herself still in the pack, tried to put on an intimidating appearance but, with snow falling off her head and a smile that refused to be wiped off her maw still on her lips, it was hard to feel any sort of fear towards her.

As Anahu kept taking slow and careful steps, in order not to scare the Varg she froze as she sniffed and realized there was another one near her. Her muzzle went up as she scanned the air again, using her helpful nose, to make sure she wasn't wrong. She wasn't... The other Varg she saw wasn't the only one here.

Confused, and wondering whether this was a trap, and whether she had accidentally entered some pack's territory she kept her head low and waited for a couple of seconds. Soon after that an orange pelt came closer to the scenery, and as the one with the darker pelt tripped and fell Anahu decided that it was time for her to go elsewhere. Somewhere less dangerous...

But her legs wouldn't let her go. She was now paralyzed with fear. What if this really was a trap for unwanted outlanders? And she had fallen right into it.

The snow was hitting her head and her pelt hard now. Every snowflake falling heavily on her brown fur and causing pain. She was scared. She was in danger. Finally, the one with the darker pelt noticed Anahu... and smiled. She was shocked. Why would another Varg smile at her, if this was a trap?

Tayah shook the snow from her fur, she hated the cold wet flakes that seemed to be trying to blind her.

"Tayah!"

She flinched, Great... she thought as the other Varg neared, but she was relieved they weren't both strangers, she got up and made her way towards the two, "Leila" she nodded towards the lighter colored female, her eyes always drawn to the leather around the other varg's neck. "What's her problem?" she asked, pointing her muzzle towards the brownish female, noting how she kept flinching as the snow fell. She sighed, rolled her eyes and lay down, "Calm down, we're not going to bite" she huffed in her deep voice. "this one is scared, maybe she thinks i'm a threatening male?" she thought to herself, it wouldn't be the first time she'd been mistaken for a Male.

Leila, shocked at the Kerl's response, wondered if perhaps she had been too forceful (she still had yet to notice her smile, although it flattened into a curious sort of frown when the brown female paused). She flattened her ears apologetically, telling herself that someone as timid as the Kerl surely wouldn't bring trouble to the pack, and that it might not be all that bad if she allowed her to stay for a while...

She nuzzled Tayah in response to the female's greeting, her deep voice familiar to her ears. She wanted to ask how she had been since they had last met, but something more pressuring tugged at her now, and after giving Tayah a friendly nudge, she ran to the brown Kerl. It didn't occur to her that this sudden action might frighten the other. All she knew was that she wanted to get to the female and assure her as quickly as possible that there was no need to be afraid.

She finally snapped out of it when she saw that both of them wouldn't really hurt her. Anahu was just scared because she had some bitter experience with crossing pack-territory in her past. She got out without any scars but ever since then she was really careful with where she went and how she went there.

She was a free spirit, a traveler. She couldn't stay at one place and was always on the move. She enjoyed nothing more than a day spent walking around the forest and admiring her surroundings. With occasional breaks for food, of course.

She let go a little bit seeing that the two females standing in front of her seemed friendly. "I'm Anahu" she started "Iiii... I'm sorry, if this is your territory and I'm coming off as an intruder. I didn't really mean to bother." A polite apologetic smile on her face, her ears pointing her tail.

Anahu didn't want to leave. She would rather stay and keep company with the two Varg, she imagined what sharing the first snow day with someone else would feel like. She's was a really social and friendly Kerl and had no trouble making friends but had they asked to leave their lands, she would, avoiding conflict.

Tayah's ears twitched and she huffed a little before shaking her head to rid her eyes of the snow "well it's no good standing around out here, unless you both want to freeze" she said, getting up and turning to move off into the trees where it would be a little more sheltered.

"Don't worry Leila, she's might be a wanderer but she seems to be as harmless as a Sikla" then she turned towards Anahu "Don't panic, we're not going to eat you for being here." she stated simply, gesturing with her head that she was going to find shelter in the treeline.

Leila wagged her tail, happy that the Kerl no longer looked as if she was about to run off at any moment. "It's okay, Anahu!" she said, assuring the female and testing her name. "I'm sure momma Akari and papa Lokai won't mind!"

Stamping her paws on the snow playfully, she yipped at Anahu before running off, laughing at Tayah's words. She nodded at the part that was meant for her, then proceeded to butt at her shoulder, trying to get the usually serious wolf into a more cheerful mood.

"Race you!" she yelled, darting for the trees.

((And then I remembered the race thing was the point of the RP. XD Seems too early, though, TBH. Maybe this one's just for fun with Leila winning because no one else joins, but later on, she insists on having some sort of contest, and they can have a race in the forest, with trees as obstacles and whatnot? Does that sound okay?))

Listen. Breathe. The wind begged her attention with gentle nudges to the varg's restless form. Earlier the command for attention had been more passionate. The vicious lashes of cold air had teased her with self-less joy. Now that the wind had ceased its torment, Jiaying was still weary of its temper. She had been out in the elements for awhile. Snow clung to her fur with stubborn determination and she gave up shaking them loose. All for the chance at a hunt. A chance that she let slip through her paws because she lost the scent. Once she returned so would the mockery. How many times had she tried to provide for the pack? How many times had she, Jiaying, come back with anything bigger than a rabbit? Never.

Exhausted but still determined, Jiaying persisted in her endevours. As she passed into a denser clump of trees she sat down. It was best to rest. There was no use wasting away, she'd need the energy when an opportunity should show. Sounds perked up her attention. She stood warily watching the figures in the distance. Who and what were they? She scented the air. Varg. But where from? The sounds she heard were not of the vicious and dangerous sort. Curiousity bid her stay, uncertainty bid her leave.

Jiaying began to notice, with faint unsettlement, that they were headed for her. Or perhaps her shelter..?
