Chailyn sat on the wooden bridge in Barton West Field. She poised the sketchbook on her lap using a black crayon to try drawing the gazebo. She loved how it look but couldn't capture it with her crayon. She sighed leaning her head down. She just couldn't seem to draw at all. She stared at the paper, imagining that someone was drawing the gazebo, she could see the lines perfectly. Yet whenever her crayon touched the paper the image in her head was shattered by a horrible rendition that looked up at her. It looked like a...well it looked like something ugly.

"Why can't I draw..." she mumbled out sadly. She moved slightly, shifting to lay on her stomach. The cold wooden planks against her skin made her twist as she shifted into her coat. She wished it was warm again, more so because she was having a terrible time sitting down. Her hand trembled as she went to pick up the crayon again. She reached out to pick up her glove before pulling it over her hand. Things didn't seem to be looking up today.

Her hair was messily piled up ino a bun that had mostly come undone. Her jeans seemed dirty and dingy making it hard for her to keep warm. Even her shirt, though hidden by her coat, was buttoned unevenly, leaving her to look like she'd dressed in the dark. She didn't seem to notice or care much about her appearance, more interested in trying to draw the gazebo.

Aido heaved out a quiet sigh, body rocking in time with Rael's movements as they padded across the snow ridden field, scarf and coat tails riding on what little wind the chilly day had to offer. It was one of those bizarre sort of days where she felt so restless that trying to do something to ease the feeling, like reading or practising her Shadow Mancing ended within three minutes of her starting, leaving her worse off than before.

Pulling a face she finnally looked away from Rael's back and the shadows she'd twisted into knots (which quickly dissapated back into Rael's fur the moment she looked away) and glanced around, halo brightening to furthur light the unfamilar area.

"Rael? Where are we?"

-West of Barton.-

"Ah..." she hadn't been here in a while. After a moment she slid off Rael's back, boot clad feet, and the edges of her slightly threadbare jeans, crunching against the snow. She threw her Companion a light smile as she headed off on her own, making for the interesting building in the distance, "stiff legs," she offered as reasoning, though it was more due to the fact that she was sick of the repetive sway of riding than the dull cramp of her leg muscles.

Rael flicked his tail but nodded his muzzel and fell back into step with her all the same.

The black crayon scribbled over the picture, before Chailyn tossed both the sketchbook and crayon to the side. She sighed shaking her head. She was giving up. She just could not draw, it was practically impossible. She frowned standing up and grudgingly collected her things. So much for having fun.

She wasn't ready to go home yet. Instead she walked off the bridge and went to sit in the gazebo, staring at the structure. It was pretty...but her crayon was too fickle to draw it. She was at a loss.

"Bored and I can't draw," she mumbled to herself sadly. She leaned to lie on her side and gave a sigh. What to do? It was bare and desolate out, neither made it very appealing to sit and watch. She didn't even notice Aido or Rael, too wrapped up in her own boredom.

Aido paused to look at the Gazebo once she and Rael had reached its steps. Looking inside she could just made out the slight outline of a figure. Rather than disturb them she took off her gloves and climbed up, first onto the railing then onto the actual roof of the gazebo.

Of course, it was only then that she noticed the small pond. Thankfully she'd seen it before moving to the front of the gazebo and merely shuffled a bit farther away to do away with her unease of the water filled hole.

Sitting down near the back of the gazebo she flopped against the slanted roof and hung her legs over the side, setting her attention on playing with the shadows that littered the ground below.

Rael threw her a curious look but didn't follow Aido up onto the roof, rather he padded out onto the bridge, shrinking and shifting until he looked like a medium sized, pitch black husky. With a jump he hopped up onto the railing and sat down, looking out along the bleak landscape with his ears pricked and his tail wagging.

Sitting up at the sound of something on the roof, Chailyn tilted her head to look up. She turned slightly only to see a huge shadow like dog. With wide eyes, she let out a soft shout of surprise. "Ack! What...who...eep..." she shivered before peering at Rael more carefully.

Her fear, more her surprise, took a moment to fade away into curiousity. She pondered what it could be before deciding to let it alone. She wanted to see who was on the roof first. Standing up, she shuffled carefully out of the gazebo walking backwards to keep her eyes on the shadow.

When she was far enough away she peered up at the roof. All the uneasy feelings she had melted at seeing Aido. She'd seen the tale before. "Hi Ai!" she shouted out waving her hand at the tale. She grinned even offering it to Rael thinking he must be friends with Aido, too.

Rael's tilted his head as the girl on the bench greeted Aido, with a tailflick he bounded off the bridge and padded over towards her.

Aido perked at the call of her name, hand relaxing as she 'let go' of her hold on a shadow a little ways away. Not that she really had had a firm hold it it anyway, silly distance restrictions.

Looking down she took in the other girl curiously. "Hello...Oh! Chailyn!" the name suddenly snapped into place and she grinned, remembering the girl from the Stationary shop. With a warm smile she returned the wave, "hello down there!"

Rael bounded over the last few steps and sniffed curiously at Chailyn. He didn't recognize her, but that meant little as Aido clearly did. He pressed his cool, slightly wet snout into the hand which currently wasn't waving.

Chailyn's eyes moved to look at the shadowy creature moving towards her. She couldn't really tell how big the creature was, being that it was black. As usual her fear subsided giving way to curiousity.

"Hi Aido, whatcha doing?" she asked the older tale. She let Rael press his snout into her hand and gave a giggle before using her other hand to try and pet the creature. "Hello," she offered him to show she meant well.

The only person nearby was Dulcea, who wasn't even paying attention to the tale. The dog tahnee had found a reasonably warm patch to sit in so that she wouldn't freeze. She was too busy scribbling or something in a notebook.

Aido smiled and her halo glowed, glad to see Rael was being nice, "m'just sitting and practicing a bit. What're you up to?"

-Hello,- Rael replied, gold eyes warm, though he had a cool feeling about him, it wasn't nearly as bad as the frigid air but it was definately a far cry from the warmth normal living creatures gave off. He sat and leant into the young Tale's touch and waggling his tail back and forth.

Chailyn grinned. "Hi, what's your name?" she asked Rael. She didn't mind that he was cool to the touch as she moved her hand to stroke his snout moving to the top of his head. She scratched him gently behind the ears finding it melted all the fear she had felt.

Her purple eyes darted up to Aido, wondering what she was practicing. "Practicing? Oh, I was trying to draw the..." she paused trying to remember the word, "Gazebo, that's it. I can't seem to though." Her face flushed feeling somewhat embarrassed about the fact she couldn't draw. The shape seemed easy enough. Still she was just a little girl, how much could she or anyone one else expect from her?

Rael's tail beat faster and he leant into the scratchings. -My name is Rael, what's yours?-

"Gazebo?" Aido looked down and gave the roof a sound pat, "so that's what this kind of building is called..." Leaning forward she put her chin on her hands, "maybe it's just not a good time to draw it? Aemu sometimes yells about something she calls 'art block', maybe you have a bit of that and just need to wait until it goes away?" She tilted her head, "do you draw a lot?" she asked, genuinely curious. The only things she seemed to be able to draw were maps, and that was largely thanks to Kibeth.

"I'm Chailyn, Rael. It's nice to meet you," the tale replied grinning. She was quickly warming up to him finding his cool touch somehow calmed her. She continued scratching behind his ears finding it a way to relax although she did just thoroughly enjoy it.

"That's what my older sister said it was. She called it a gazebo." She stared up at Aido as she talked wondering what or who Aemu was. "Aemu? Who is Aemu?" she asked curiously. She blushed gently hoping she didn't sound stupid.

Rael nodded his agreement to her greeting, too distracted by the scratchings to return it properly.

Aido chuckled and smiled, "Aemu's my Mum, dunno why she's called 'Aemu' instead of Mum though, it's just always been that way." The Tale suddenly realized just how awkward their posistion was for carrying on a conversation and began to climb downwards towards Rael and Chailyn.

"I just call my mom, mom or mother. Aemu sounds nice though," she replied with a nod. She looked up at Aido before looking down at Rael. Her neck was getting sore from tilting her head back so much. She didn't want to say anything so she was glad to see that Ai was coming down.

"What's it like being older...and taller?" Chailyn asked out of the blue.

Aido blinked and stopped about midway down the gazebo, pondering the question. "Well..." she climbed down another foot before hopping down and landing in the snow.

"I'm not really sure... in some ways it's nice, I can talk clearly and walk, and hug people properly," she smiled, "when I was small I was even smaller than you are now and I didn't get too much bigger until I suddenly grew a lot." She shook her head, she still didn't know why some Tales were born able to talk and run while she and some of the others had been more like newborns. Maybe someday she'd get around to talking with the Tome again and she could ask.

Rael lopped over to her and she scratched at his ears for a moment, kneading the shadows of his fur in her hands before smoothing it out again and poking him back over to Chailyn, "I can do a lot more now that I'm older and taller, but things seem more... complicated as well." She paused, realizing she'd probably just given a much longer answer than the younger Tale had needed and flushed in embarassment.

"Eheh, sorry for babbeling. The short answer is it's okay and has it's own array of good points and drawbacks, just like being young had."

Chailyn watched Aido carefully. She wasn't sure what to think about getting older which is why she'd asked. She looked up at Rael wondering if he had gotten bigger or if he'd always been this size but didn't ask.

"How...," she paused. How did you hug someone improperly? She wasn't sure how to ask that question because it didn't sound right. She tilted her head to the side before blurting it out. "How do you hug someone not properly?"

She wasn't sure how growing up made things more complicated. She'd have to wait until she grew up to find that out, she supposed. "How come you're out here by yourself?"
