 Kaia flicked her tail as she headed towards the surface. It was night and she was curious about what might be going on above. She was up for an adventure, even if it was just a small one.
Her head rose above the water and she looked around. Nothing was visible on the water, but the stars sparkled above. Kaia flicked her tail harder and leaped out of the water, Her body arched as she rose above and began to fall back in the water.

 Nenmau was swimming along below as Kaia's descent began. He was unaware of the shadow she cast, did not notice that something was headed his way. It was rare that he swam so close to the surface, and the odd fluctuations and shadows cast meant little to him. Deeper in, a shadow could advance on you ad easily veer at the last moment. Whatever this shadow was, did not seem to be a predator, so he paid it no mind. Did not think for a second that it might be some one unable to keep from colliding with him.
No, his mind was on more important matters. He had come this close to the surface to see if depth had an affect on the buoyancy of his hair. If it did, he of course needed to know if it looked better in the shallows, or in the deep where he usually resided. And if it was better near the break line, was it worth the risk of being dry. Difficult and pressing questions that left little time for curiosity about some shadow.

Kaia noticed movement in the water, but it was to late for her to change her direction. The shadowy movement looked like a school of fishes, so it might not be that bad. Her nose entered the water first and she felt extra hair. Oh no! Her mind raced as she thought of what exactly she was about to rub against.
She hadn't noticed any of the others near by as she had swam up. She must have been followed, but this might show them how much fun it was. Her shoulders touch the water and turned so her back was towards the mass of hair. She smiled as the water covered her body, before she looked to see who it was she had touched.

At first contact he scrambled, oh how he scrambled. Is it possible to skitter under water? Cause he did that too. By the time she was fully submerged, he was a bit away staring at her as he fixed his hair, doing his best to gather the tattered flotsam of his dignity back into some recognizable form.

She felt the water being shoved around as the other moved. Kaia turned to find out what it was. Her eyes went wide as she took in the male. No wonder she hadn't seen him, his silver and black colors blended him into the surrounding shadows below. At the surface she could make him out and giggled as he fixed his hair.

As he arranged the final strand he glanced at her. "That was dangerous," he said, reprovingly.

She bowed her head. "I did not think someone else would be around." She looked at him quizzically. "I didn't hurt you, did I?"
The rush of the jump was still rushing through her.

He smoothed his face gently and inspected his hoof while it was there, intently, as he spoke. "I am capable of moving out of the way, of course. However, others may not be so able, you should be more cautious."

She tossed her head to get the hair away from her face. "Being cautious all the time is no fun. Besides you are unhurt."
Kaia steadied herself to watch the mer inspect his hoof. "Why are you doing that? Got something fishy in it?" she teased.

"I check," he said ignoring the part of what she said that might be seen as negative, and answering her question instead, "to ensure that nothing does get into it, or on to it. One must look one's best." Satisfied that his hoof did not need attending, he let it fall comfortably beside the other. "We could continue this discussion deeper," he said, as if it were for her comfort.

She snickered. "Look one's best for what?" Turning to look back at the depths, she shook out her mane. "Why deeper? Don't you enjoy being close to the surface." A dreamy sound entering her voice.

"Well, it is not like you would be out in the air for that long." She grinned and swam closer, "Have you ever felt the wind in your hair?"

He gave a dramatic shudder, coat rippling. he inspected his hoof again. "Why would I do such a thing?" Again.

She turned an eye at him. "For fun. And, it feels wonderful with the wind blowing through your hair." She stuck her nose in his mane before he could react. "Tag!" and swam up a little higher, turning to see if he followed.
