Eirik stretched as he walked out of his family's den, yawning. It'd rained the night before, and everything seemed to be still in the process of drying. Grinning a little as he shook himself awake, Eirik began trotting towards the lake of drinking water, looking around. He was in an undeniably good mood this morning, though it's reason had yet to be determined.

Eirik greeted the few adults he passed on the way to the lake in the typical Stormborn way, but he didn't pay much attention to them. He wanted a drink, and to find one of his siblings to play with. It was a good, not-quite-unbearably-hot day, and Eirik had the fullest of intentions to enjoy it!

When the lake came into view, Eirik picked up his pace, trotting towards it happily. Drink, then he'd find Loki or someone to tackle. After his first duel, the young cub had been pretty eager for his next. It had been unbelievably fun, he wanted to do it again. He'd have to go challenge Lucivar soon, when he was sure the other cub wasn't still ready to kill him. Y'know, in a few days time.

Eirik stopped at the edge of the pool, and leaned down... And shoved his whole head into the cold water. The shock woke him up, and he leaned back, shaking his head with a ridiculous grin. Ahhhh...

Tyr was moping near the waters edge as he was wont to do. He didn't want to be around anyone unless it was his new friend Halvar -- he certainly didn't want to be around his siblings because they made him rage. His brothers both had pretty natural pelts that they wore (although unwittingly) and yet here was Tyr sloshing around in his terrible pink be-hearted pelt. He didn't mind pink so much, his own hair had some pink in it, but this much pink? And the hearts? ...and it was so itchy and warm.

Half-heartedly he chewed on the leather bindings that kept the fur tied to his legs. He didn't have much progress in loosening the things up, and he and Halvar hadn't been able to get together to ponder which adult they could go to and plead with them to set Tyr free.

Tyr was deep in a pit of despair wallowing in self-pity when he heard a loud splash from nearby. Dragging his head into position so that he could see where the noise came from, he watched a cub (one that bore similar markings to his brother, though it didn't strike Tyr as anything odd) dip his head into the water as if it was the most wonderful thing in the world.

Tyr wanted to do that.

Tyr wanted to do that bad.

A million curses on this stupid dog-fur that he was forced to wear!!

So utterly distracted by the cool water he was now drinking in guzzles, Eirik didn't notice the poor fur-covered cub until he'd leaned back a second time, taking a deep breath and actually looking around. He blinked when he was Tyr. What was that? Was that a cub? Hmmmmm... As he looked closer, Eirik discerned that it was, in fact, some poor cub stuck in a dog's pelt. He made a face. That must've been awfully itchy...

"Morning." Eirik greeted from his spot by the lake, turning to face Tyr curiously. "Um... I'm Eirik." The thing he wanted to say was 'Wtf are you WEARING', but he surmised that wasn't quite good conversation, and Eirik was nothing if not a networking cub! He got up and closed the distance between them, sitting back down once he was only a few feet away instead of a few yards. "What's up?"

Innocent enough conversation. Somehow he'd steer it towards the elephant in the area, but for now, pleasantries seemed the best way to go.

Tyr inhaled deeply, the action causing his lower lip to whiffle in and out with the shuddering breath. With great effort he drew himself up into a seated position, eyes mournfully meeting those of the other cub. "I'm... I'm Tyr," he said miserably. He really didn't want to socialize right now, not at all, but he didn't want to grow up lonesome and making friends was the only thing he had going for him in his young life. His young itchy life.

He really just wanted to weep with misery, he really did. Really.

But he didn't. He would be strong and steel his heart against the pink shame that rested along his back and head. And ankles.

Sigh.

"Not much," Tyr exhaled sadly, waiting for the questions to start. He knew they'd come -- they always did.

Okay, seriously, he had to ask.

"What are you wearing?" There were probably many, many ways to bring this up delicately. Unfortunately all of these ways were completely and utterly lost on Eirik. Blunt questions, that's the way! He had the good grace to look sheepish when he realized just how blunt he was, but he wasn't apologetic. Just really, really curious.

"It must be awful itchy." His fur alone made him itch sometimes in the heat. How could this cub wear two without going insane!? If you only knew the truth, Eirik... He tilted his head, regarding the pelt curiously. The pink was a bit... bright... And the hearts really weren't helping much... But at least he wasn't laughing, right?

That took a lot of effort, be impressed.

It was itchy. Unbearably itchy. Hellishly itchy. Woefully itchy.

It was so itchy that his... his itches were itchy.

"It's really itchy," Tyr grumbled, lifting a paw to thrash at the water he sat next to. "Really, really itchy. And so hot." He'd been panting earlier because of the heat. They might live high on a mountain but it wasn't high enough to ease the hot glare of the sun.

"My friend Halvar and me tried to get it off but my mom, she ties these strings too tight and we couldn't even chew them off, and we were gonna go find an adult to help us but we couldn't think of one and it just makes me so angry." Tyr didn't sound angry. He sounded defeated. He sounded miserable.

"My mom said they were presents and that we had to wear them all the time. I think she hates us... or me especially. I have to wear a pink one."

Eirik had to flinch sympathetically when the poor guy thrashed the water in his fit. It was really not all that fair to have to wear that ugly fur. The least she could've done was give him a nice one! Like, like a smaller lion's pelt. Then he could be proud of it! He frowned while Tyr explained the attempts to get it off.

"That's awful." Really, the word he wanted to use was evil, but while he himself held no strong feelings one way or another for his own mother, he wasn't sure what Tyr thought of his. At least, until that last statement. Then he made a face. "I'm sorry." Whatever he knew of his mother, he knew she didn't hate them. That was enough for him, Eirik supposed. "She sounds evil." He frowned at him, twitching his tail to and fro.

"Maybe you can get one of the Freeborn to take it off! Or maybe a Thrall?" He wondered if his father's thrall, Thuto, would be of any help. He frowned thoughtfully.

Tyr nodded somberly, agreeing to both the part about this being awful, and the part about his mother sounding evil. Tyr had pretty much convinced himself that his mother hated him - really, there could be no other explanation about this, no other reason that the little lion could fathom. It was the only thing he could come up with.

"We might ask Halvar's dad, or his dad's Thrall to do it. We just... have to be careful. Mom will be really upset if she sees me without my fur on. It's really important to her for some reason and I don't really know why." Maybe she was ashamed of her babies, Tyr had no idea. He couldn't figure it out. He'd tried.

"I don't want to get anyone in trouble. My mom is big and scary, and she might... hurt somebody."

Eirik blinked, and scoffed loudly. "I'd like to see her try and hurt my Dad's thrall. He'd thrash her somethin' good." He nodded solemnly, completely convinced of Taraxa's inability to be defeated by anyone. Least of all some evil mother who tortured her own cubs! What kind of a mom was that, he wanted to know. He eyed the string tying the fur to his feet, and made a face.

"There should be some kind of law against cruel and unusual punishment." He said sympathetically. frowning at him.

Eirik got up after a minute, stretching, and grinned. "But hey, it fits you kinda nice, right?" He asked, circling him. "It won't fit like that forever!" And then he'd be free. Really, with the pelt on, Eirik was kind of curious what he looked like. Did he have dark fur? Spots? Stripes? More hearts under his pelt?

DID HE HAVE A THIRD EYE? omg!

Hey, he liked Eirik. Eirik seemed to try and look at the bright side. That was nice, it was nice to have a bud that he could talk to, a bud like Halvar. That was cool.

"I hope my hair doesn't get all stringy and matted," Tyr fussed. He did love his hair, the pretty fade in it from pink to yellow. He wouldn't admit that he loved his hair as that wasn't very manly, but he'd be heartbroken if his hair got all matted and nasty. This stupid fur covered up his pretty hair.

"I s'pose you're right, Eirik. It won't be like this forever... I don't think jackals grow this big right? Mom would have to start..." he didn't want to think about the fact that he was wearing the fur of a dead animal, he really didn't, and so a blatantly abrupt change of topic was due.

"Annit's hard to see out of this stupid thing, too."

He cringed as Tyr trailed off, nodding sympathetically. It would be horrible to wear the pelt of a lion you didn't kill yourself. At least, that was Eirik's point of view. Though the full body fur looked itchy, he knew it would be quite honorable to wear the pelt of a foe you bested in battle, if it ended in death. Not a Thrall pelt, but something more warrior-like...

Shaking his head, he nodded in agreement, snorting. "And it looks stupid." He said bluntly, sitting in front of Tyr after stretching his legs a bit.

"I bet you can't play much in there, huh?" He frowned, reaching over with one paw to push at the silly fur helmet he was stuck wearing. "Must be awful not being able to duel..." He loved dueling! It made his blood boil with excitement; the idea of not doing it was disheartening. He was lucky his Dad wouldn't do something so horrid.

Maybe it was a Mom thing? He didn't know, with his being off in another pride... At the thought of it being a 'Mom thing', he was suddenly grateful his wasn't there to torment him like Tyr's tormented him..
PostPosted: Mon Mar 07, 2011 10:03 am

Tyr grunted. He didn't much like to duel in all honesty. He liked to play with rocks and collect feathers and watch the clouds or try and catch fish with his bare paws. He wasn't very good at catching fish but it was fun to try, at least until his outfit got all rank and wet. After that it stopped being so much fun.

"You're right, Eirik. It does look stupid. It looks awful. It's ... it's pink," Tyr grumbled, "with hearts on it, too." The cub shook his head.

"I bet your mom would never do this kinda thing to you, huh, Eirik? I bet your dad would say 'No, Eirik's mom, I will not let you do this to my son!' My dad lets my mom do whatever she wants," he finished sullenly.

Eirik made a face, nodding. "Yeeeah... Not gonna lie, I thought you were a girl at first." What? It was a testament to his awful pelt! Not him! ... Ahem. He looked sheepish. "No offense." Eirik added, scratching at his maw sheepishly.

He snorted a little, laughing, and nodded. "My Dad would totally stop it from happening. No way in heck would I have to wear a awful dog pelt." He snickered, shaking his head. He frowned when he spoke of his own father, and leaned over, bumping his shoulder encouragingly. "Hey, at least they don't keep you locked up in the cave?" He offered, grinning. "And then when you're older, you can move into your own cave and not even have to see them anymore." He said with a wider grin. Eirik was looking forward to having his own den one day. Sure, he loved his brothers, but there was such a thing as too much testosterone in a confined space, man.

Either he was gonna wind up hurting one of them, or he was going to wind up losing an eye.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 07, 2011 10:20 am

Tyr snort-giggled. At least Eirik was being honest and not trying to make him feel better about the situation. Yeah, he probably did look like a girl in this getup, but what could be done about the situation? Nothing, nothing at all. He slept in this fur, ate in this fur, played in this fur. He hadn't yet figured out a way to get out of it, much to his dismay, but maybe there would be hope in the future.

He had to grow up someday, right?

"Yeah, when I move into my own cave, that'll be great. I can do whatever I want!" Man, that sounded awesome!

Peering up at the sky, Tyr sighed softly. "I better get home soon, Eirik," he said sadly, morosely looking at his new friend. "My mom will get mad if I stay out too long. She's so weird," he said in exasperation, shaking his head.

Eirik grinned a little, nodding. "It'll be great. And you can get rid of that stupid pelt, cause your Mom won't be there to make you put it back on." Eirik couldn't wait to be an adult, although it was for an entirely different reason. Raids. He was looking forward to seeing the rogue lands and bringing back a Thrall or two of his own.

Eirik glanced up at the sky, noticing how dark it was getting, and made a face, nodding. "Don't feel bad." He said as he got up, grumbling. "My Dad gets the same way too. I think it's cause they think we're gonna wander off into the Rogue Lands or something." He said, grinning a little. "But I'll see you tomorrow or something? We can try getting that stupid pelt off again." If nothing else, it'd make for a fun game to see how far they got.
