Aduial was... well... lost. Again. This had become a normal state of affairs with her over the past month or so, but she had found a nice little sheltered spot to sleep the night before and she could have sworn she could find her way back when she left...
And now she was somewhere a bit too far in the woods when it would be dark out soon. If something like this had happened back home her brother would inevitably have found her before the sun actually went down and led her home. She would have been reprimanded, and possibly punished by him as well, depending on how badly she had wandered and why. But he was only watching out for her, trying to keep her from doing anything wrong. He had practically raised her after their mother died and their father went a little crazy, and she couldn't make him look bad, after all!
But that was neither here nor there, as she couldn't go home again. Ever. So she was stuck out here, where ever she was, either being lost and lonely or playing the polite traveler "just passing through" to keep anyone from asking, and digging, and finding out how horrible she was. She still had to try and be a good girl on her own. She didn't want to make her brother look bad...
Standing in the middle of the woods and staring off into space in between looking around bewilderedly probably wasn't the best thing to be doing at dusk, but dear little Aduial's mind wasn't exactly in a sensible place right now.

Within the same woods was another creature, though this one was far from lost or confused. His twilight wings spread as he walked between the trees, making sure his presence was known back the way he tore at the fragile leaves about. And it was always amusing to see the smallest of critters and birds fleeing away from the assumed menace, he must admit. Even if Soul wasn't much of a fighter, he loved to set the mood of such rivalry and tension anyways. It was so much more thrilling, a pulse of needed adrenaline in this otherwise boring life.
Grinning in a way that crinkled his arrow-marked face, the Kalona continued forward with confident footfalls, on his way toward the flatlands. Even with the season at it's coldest, he'd try his luck scavenging the open terrain for prey. Who knows, perhaps the weak or frail were left behind there, hoping for an easy travel. He'd be sure to disrupt that for them!

Aduial was startled from her unpleasant bit of reverie by the sound of heavy footfalls and the rustling and cracking of small tree branches. Bright eyes wide in fear she turned away from it and started to run... only to trip and tumble into the clinging branches of a winter-bared bush. She uttered a frightened cry, though it wasn't much of one given she could barely make any sound above a whisper with her long damaged vocal chords. After a moment of struggle against the bush and remaining stuck fear overrode her and she simply froze, hiding her head beneath a wing and hoping maybe if she was quiet now, what ever it was wouldn't find her.

Of all the things Soul might have expected, to hear a bodily crash to the ground some distance ahead of him wasn't one of them. Just what the hell had that been? Certainly no bird, and to hell if he stumbled upon a bear's territory. Though that may be a fun way to spend time, the Kalona mused. And being the egotistical fool that he was, Soul continued on his path without a pause. He was more driven by curiosity than fear whenever it came to mysteries.
Kicking aside some twigs as he went, it didn't take long at all for the male to find the scene of the crime. And like a giant bird he early intended to pester, there on the cold ground sprawled a winged soquili with feathers and mane a scattered mess. With her face covered, the male turned to her torso for signs of life, which he found by her erratic breathing. Scoffing as the mare continued her play even after he stood there for a few moments, the Kalona drew out his sharp tail. Like a viper, it twisted forward as he approached toward her fallen hooves.
"Lazy fool, you'd best defend yourself while you can." >C

Aduial was not a fighter. She had physical strength and intelligence enough to become one, perhaps, but it was not her nature nor had she ever been allowed the knowledge, much less opportunity. None the less something about Soul's tone of voice, perhaps something that reminded her subconscious of the way her brother used to berate her when she did something stupid, startled her from her fearful stupor and stumbled halfway to her feet.
She was still tangled rather firmly in the clutches of the malicious shrubbery, but she managed to position her rump away from Soul and her horn toward him. At this point, however, she seemed much more confused by her feeble attempt at defense than afraid of him. She realized that, tied down as she was, he could take her apart in spite of what she might try to fend him off. She had simply responded to his irritated command... and she had no idea what to make of it.

The Kalona eyed the mess of blue before him, taking it's sweet time to get off the ground. Had his words not been threatening enough? Or was she just plain ignorant of what he was truly capable of doing? Regardless of the reason, Soul sneered at the other in her weak attempt of guarding herself, much like a newborn foal running off untrained instincts.
"Foolish woman, what do you hope to accomplish like that?" He glared down at the weaving of vines about her limbs, mutely admiring their simplistic structure. In fact, this terrain seemed to be full of that sort of plant. He could make good use of it for future ambush attacks on prey. Grinning twistedly, he turned his attention back on the winged Uni, undaunted by her presence. Quick as a flash, he drew the humor off his face and replaced it with a dark frown. "You're blocking my way." His wings unfurled from his back, and their sharp points glinted hungrily as he stretched them to their fullest.
