Another long and quiet day. The air smelled like snow, and was crisp. It was wonderful. Days like this could well spoil him. No one talking at him, bothering him, pestering him. Just him, the cold, and his thoughts. What more could a stallion want? Nothing, that was what.
A face came to his mind unbidden, and he allowed himself a small rare grin. Okay, knowing Lian was safe and well would be nice, but he raised her he'd just have to trust that he did a good enough job. The girl was not stupid, even if she often spoke too much. She was one of the few who understood him, however, which spoke to her having a brain. Why was it that so many Soqs could be so very very stupid? Why did nearly everyone feel the insane need to constantly state or ask about the obvious? Why did no one seem to have any observational skills? Well, at least Lian had learned that much from him. She'd be fine.
Besides, it wasn't like he cared. Nope. Not at all. His obligation was done. Over, kaput. It was up to her to fly free. She wanted to go her own way, so be it. Anyway, he was happier alone. He took a deep breath in of the cold air and let the smile fall away as contentment filled him. Yes. He was very happy alone.

((Shoshana makes a guest appearance with black magic)) She loved the winter, after all it was the first thing aside from her parents that had greeted her into this world. She'd been happily scouting out the edge of the herd lands getting a feel for what else was around them. Her jont however, was cut short. She stopped, listened and sniffed at the air, her usually wagging tail still and flagged up in alarm. She thought she'd heard something in the brush. It wasn't till the scent of fur, dirt, blood and other things filled her nose that she had even a mall clue as to what lay in wait for her.
It all happened at once, she sprang from the earth as the tawny colored cat leaped from the brush and nearly missed taking her to the ground. She wasn't without a scratch though, The cat's claw had managed to get her right rear though it wasn't more than a small cut. still her blood only seemed to entice the beast ever more. It was definitely hungry and saw her as it's next meal. She called out in distress hoping her father would be near enough to hear her cry for help as she ran dodging fallen logs, trees and the cat in her attempt to get away with her life.

Pachu'a heard the cries for distress. For one who thought so much so often, there was no time think, and there was no attempt at thought. He moved. He raced towards the sound.
A glance showed him enough to know what needed to be done. There was no need to harm the cat, it did nothing wrong. Winter was a lean season all around, and all the animals knew of Soqs were that they were dangerous prey. They did not know to differentiate between intelligent beings and food. All he wanted to do was scare the cat off, he wanted it to find other food. He held no malice towards the beast, but he still had to save the little one. He slammed his hooves down on the ground as he jumped between the beast and it's prey.
He flicked an ear back at the girl to ask if she was injured. It was all he could spare, but even if he could speak more, he wouldn't have. The question was asked, it was sufficient. Unfortunately, he couldn't turn to see her answer. Of course, had he the time to look, he needn't have even asked.

The young mare let out a small sound of surprise as the stallion put himself between herself and the cat. She know that some came to befriend the soquili like her mother's familiar, a black bear with silver markings. This, was much more different. Lean season as it was she considered herself lucky to get away with his a small cut on her rump. The red blood stained her white fur as it trickled down the curve of her leg. It stung, oh how did it ever sting. Giving a small sniffle. She fought herself to keep from fleeing without so much as a word as the cat hissed and took a swipe at the stallion before eventually tucking tail and skittering off the direction it had chased her from. This mare wouldn't be dinner this time around. Tears glistened in her grey eyes as she looked at the wound she had. It wasn't that bad but still the pain made her cry. She looked so dainty, delicate and her tears only served to make her all the more fragile looking.
Looking back at the stallion she offered a small grateful smile and sniffled once more before speaking. "Th-thank you..." her voice was soft, fitting and matching of her looks like you could reach out and touch her words and they would shatter like the frosty lace on a thinly frozen over pond.

He glanced back once the cat was gone. He looked her up and down, inspecting the level of her wounds and the severity. Not as bad as he had feared, but it could have easily been worse. If she could not care for herself, what was the fool doing out alone? Clearly she had known that she had needed help, since she called for it. That was all well and good but why was she out in the first place, if she knew she could not survive alone?
He stepped away and nosed around until he found herbs that he knew would kill pain. he pulled up several and placed them before her. Then he found a frond of Aloe to help cleanse and seal the wound. He plucked a frond of that as well. He gave that to her then flicked his tail annoyed. She needed to go home and stay there unless she was with a protector. He nodded his head to the side, in case she didn't get the message.

She looked at the herbs and frond and then back up at him before slowly eating the herbs and then using the aloe vera frond on her wound. She knew better than to push them aside. Her mother had instilled that much into her mind even if she wasn't a tough as she or her sister. She didn't notice however the brush off she was getting, having been busily tending to her small wound. it's leave a small scar if that but nothing worse. Turning her attention back to him, she smiled once more, discarding the used frond. "Thanks.. I'm Briallan." She offered him a small sweet, gentle smile.

He snorted out through his nose in disgust. She had already thanked him, and why did he need to know her name? it was not as though they would be together. He would leave and she would go home, and that would be the end of it. He did not understand why some needed to always fill their mouths with words. It was pointless.
Since he had sufficiently expressed his annoyance, he turned, fully intending to head off, looking to recapture the peace and solitude he had felt just moments before.
He stopped, unable to take that step away. Blast it all. The foolish twit had gotten herself hurt once already, being out alone. If he didn't escort her home, she'd just cry out for help again, and with his luck it would be just as he had found some peace. He turned back with a heavy sigh, ready to follow her to her herd to be sure she got there safely. While he was at it, he would make sure that they knew to keep a better eye on her so she did not interrupt his peace again.

Her ears gave a small flick though they stayed perked in his direction. He seemed like he wanted to leave but then again.. he stopped. Tilting her head to the side some, she gave an inward shrug. He wasn't a talkative one she guessed. Turning, she looked around before nodding. She knew this area.. it wasn't too far from her herd lands. She'd eaten berries as a foal here once.
With a tail wag, she looked back at him. "Hungry?" She then lifted a hoof and pawed at a snow covered bush revealing a winter berry bush. Lowering her head down, she nosed about in the snow till she found what she was looking for. Berries that lay under the snow from being knocked off with the jostle she'd given the bush. Nibbling at the berries, she couldn't help but to giggle a little inwardly. This stallion was... to say the least.. handsome.. and even if he wasn't much of a talker he had at least saved her. She felt like the damsel in distress who's prince in shining armor had come to save the day.

Pachu'a watched her as she nosed around the snow, waiting to see what she was doing. See, other Soq might have gotten impatient and asked, but what was the point? Simple observation and waiting provided all the answers needed. Well, she had not asked him what he had been doing when he had been digging for herbs. He would try to remember that. Perhaps he could get her home without wanting to kick he teeth in. It would be a nice change of pace.
He watched her wag her tail and scowled slightly. What was she? Equine or canine? Dogs wagged their tails, Soq were far more dignified. He thought about some of the others he had met recently, and was suddenly less sure of that. Blossom specifically came to mind. There had been nothing at all dignified about that little scrap of a brat. Nothing redeeming whatsoever. He suspected that if the lion had eaten Blossom that the poor cat would have gotten indigestion.
When the new mare asked him if he was hungry, his ears flattened slightly. Why had she needed to ask? Especially as she then reveled food. She could have just shown it to him, and then his answer would be given by if he ate or not. Thankfully she was less chatty then most, but still she spoke where she did not need to. He flicked an ear in thanks and ate a few berries to be polite. Then he lifted his head, a clear indication that he was done, and that it was time to move on.

Blinking, she lifted her head up soon after nibbling her fill of food. Her tail still waggles. She'd seen many deer in the distance around her herd wag their tails. They nearly looked like she and her father so she'd naturally picked it up. Looking around, she sniffed at the air, waiting, thinking before moving on. She knew the way back home, only.. this smell was different.. not like home at all. Quietly, she walked, following the scent, listening intently. She was more chatty than her brother, but less chatty than her sister. She was some where in the middle. not quite as reckless as her sister but not so shy as to stay at home and never seek adventure.
A breeze picked up as clouds drifted in with a promise of a storm to follow. She gave a small shudder, and stopped as though she were looking for the smell she'd lost, only she looked back. A glint in her eyes that spelled doom to most declared bachelors. It was a look of a twitter pated young mare who'd gotten a small crush on some one.

He followed as she went, following a scent he assumed that was the one of her home. He watched her as they moved. She even scented like a dog, did she not? No, maybe that was unfair. Then again, maybe it wasn't. Did that accursed tail ever stop wagging? It looked like some one had had ripped all the hair out of it, to leave it wagging in pain. But that didn't seem to be a pain reaction, now did it. How positively annoying. Wag wag wag. What was the point of it?
No, he shook himself mentally. At least she was communicating without words. The different tail just meant a different language to learn. It was all she had, perhaps she could not move hers the way he could move his. He would not fault her for that, no matter how annoying it might seem.
He stopped when she shuddered and stopped. Had something gone wrong? He looked around, hoping to find the source of her upset. What had struck her as wrong? Seeing nothing external, he searched her herself. What had been the concern? He saw the look in her eyes, but it was one of the few he could not read, he did not understand it. He flicked back an ear to indicate his confusion and need for elaboration. His hoof moved slightly in the snow, as if to stress how much he hoped it would be a non-verbal elaboration.

She just offered him yet another smile, though it was warmer than the first she'd offered him. Turning her head she looked about then up to the storm clouds rolling in ahead. Giving a small sigh, she looked to the treeline ahead and continued her way towards them. The trees would offer them some sort of break from a storm. And it was on the way now towards her herd. He did seem a bit oblivious in his own way. Had he not read her looks the right way? At she thought, she pouted some. Her ears giving a small flick here and there to the crunch of the snow below her hooves as she walked.

Was she lost? He wondered, seeing how long she hesitated. He really didn't feel like helping another lost mare find her home, but he knew what would happen if he left her. That lion wouldn't be cowed long. He nodded his acknowledgment at her smile of gratitude and hid his own concern. She wasn't as annoying as that last filly, nor as the one whose grand quest had been some Soquli forsaken grave site. As long as this mare did not begin chattering inanely or sobbing uncontrollably, perhaps helping her find her home would not be so terrible. And at least her tail was still. That helped.
When she began moving for the treeline, he followed. Was this the way to her home, was she just guessing, or was she just looking for cover? The air smelled like snow, so it might just be that she was looking for somewhere warm. Well, like as not they'd find a small cave or build a lean-to if she needed. He was fairly good with things like that. And since she was being quiet, he supposed that helping her was not the worst thing that could happen to him. It wasn't like he had been going anywhere specific, and he could still enjoy the cold. In fact, if they did find a place for her to get warm, if that were needed, he could stand outside. Fulfill the need to guard, and keep cool at the same time. It was not quite the same as being free to wander where he would, but there had been worse adventures in his life.
And for a brief moment, as he followed, he wondered where Lian was, and if she was warm enough, and remembering to keep watch for lions. She didn't like the cold as much as he did, so he could only hope that she would be alright. No, not hope. Trust. He would have to trust that she learned enough from her time with him to survive. Or at least to be able to call for help if needed.

A gust of wind blew up trailing her mean behind her. Lowering her head, she pushed on. She was really going to need to get home. She knew as soon as this storm hit if she wasn't at home, Her family might begin to worry over her. Still they were a bit off from home and she could make out a small cave in the hill side ahead.. Looking back, she perked her ears at him then looked back at the cave ahead and motioned with her head for him to follow. It's be a good idea to get out of the storm now and explain herself later rather than having to try and find her way home and possibly get lost.

Pachu'a felt the bite and force of the wind, even with her as a windbreaker before him. He saw her glance back, the subtle shift of her ears, then the look at the cave. He saw the motion to follow and nodded, moving along side her. That made sense. And best of all, she hadn't said a word. It was... refreshing. And walking beside her, he could not see that tail going. Still, he should learn how to read that, he supposed, others might have the same tell. And he could not learn to read it, if he could not see it. But he would worry about that later. She was right, they had to get under cover. He just hoped that the cave wasn't home to a danger worse then the storm... like an angry lion out for vengeance.
