Second period was always a nightmare.
For one, the kids were rambunctious and tended to cause more chaos than learning. The teacher, a short man in a plaid jacket, spent most of the lesson with his back on the chaos and his mouth in a continual litany of mumbled explanations about the subject he was teaching. Math.
As a general rule of thumb, all students hated this subject with an avid passion. Shin-lu, the student council treasurer was not one for mathematics, but it was an essential, and she appreciated the calm logics that came of learning maths.
Most days.
The girls in the back of the class had decided that today was a good day to pick on one of the quiet girls, one that usually kept to herself and didn't do much talking. Quiet meant victim for most teenaged bullies.
"Hey, where is my pen?" The screech was almost deafening.
Shin-lu turned her head to watch as the bully made a pathetic play of looking for it, her friend had studiously kicked the pen under Jay's chair. A childish set-up.

Oh math... What is there to said about it beside it was one thing that was hating by all the students in all the worlds. But there was one that didn't hate it at all. In fact, she quite enjoy it, ever if she wasn't as good in it as she would like. Jay couldn't wait for first period to end. If it was up to her, she would have just skip first and go right into second period so she didn't have to wait the 55 minutes of boredom that was her first class of the day.
Jay just sat at her desk quietly, pen in hand and her eyes looking ahead of her to the board as her math teacher wrote down math problems and explain how to solve them. She watch how he did it and listen to each words that came out of his mouth until one of the girls that was sitting behind her starting to ask about a pen she had misplace. Jay turn to look at her then move her brown eyes away and down to the flood. She was trying to see if the girl's pen had falling off her desk. She look around the area she was in then wider her search to the desks around the girl's but was unable to find it. She cross her ankles over each other and starting to swing her legs some. As she did, the tip of one of her shoe kick the pen that was under her desk forward a little. Jay look down and got down to pick it up. She smile softly, thinking it was the pen the girl was looking for. She set her own pen down, move some loose hair behind her ear, then turn to face the girl and held the pen out to her. In a very tiny and soft voice, Jay ask the girl, "Is this your pen...?" She held the pen a little higher so the girl could have a good look at it.
