Name: Hasuko Mizuki
Nicknames: Hasu
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Faction/Race: Kappa - Water Monster (Youkai?)

Personality: Hasuko is a bit of a nerd. She's not a hopeless case exactly, but she's a little shy, exceedingly polite, and easily flustered. As a result, she prefers to pursue her own solitary interests than interact with new people -- it's much less stressful. It's not that she doesn't like people or can't be friendly, but it takes her a while to feel comfortable enough around a new person to open up. She's content with just a small circle of close friends rather than a million of acquaintances. She is the perpetual wallflower, preferring to lurk on the sidelines and observe the fun rather than be out in the center of it.
Since she is so polite, Hasuko also sometimes has trouble disagreeing with people or having contrary opinions. She's aware of that failing though and tries her best not to allow herself to be such a doormat. When pushed too far she will muster her courage and tell the other person (politely) to back off. Or at least try to.
Sometimes, Hasuko wistfully sighs and wonders what it would be like to be more confident, popular, and at the center of everyone's attention but just as quickly she shakes her head and smiles in wry half-amusement at the very thought.
Part of this mindset is due to Hasuko's parents. Her parents were always very loving, but they also were sheltering and controlling. They want only the best for their daughter -- they want her to succeed, and they most definitely don't want her to be distracted by frivolities such as school popularity or (heaven forbid) dating. That subtle but inexorable pressure has shaped Hasuko and made her way of thinking rather ingrained towards their will. She's only now beginning to realize that her parents' words aren't absolute law after all; the world is much wider than the path they set out for her. That and she won't actually keel over from exhaustion the next day if she doesn't go to bed by 10pm.
Hasuko didn't mind her parents' strict control when she was young, partially because she didn't know any better, but also because she just wanted to make them proud of her. She still does. It's unfortunate that she's actually only an average student. Hasuko certainly isn't dumb but she's no genius either. Her good grades are the result of a tremendous amount of effort and non-stop studying.
Hasuko's current ambition is to perhaps someday become a doctor -- something that her parents are enthusiastically pushing her towards. She's especially fascinated with plant-derived medicines and poisons, almost to the point of being a little unsettling to those who hear her talk starry-eyed about the gruesome effects of this particular plant or that.
Hasuko's one other main interest is Faceball (a sport very similar to human baseball, only with less rules and more player brutality). It's a passion that she shares with her mother. Both Mizuki ladies are extremely loyal fans of their home team, the Hanshin Manticores, and one of the fastest ways to rile up Hasuko is to trash talk her favorite team.
Aside from that, Hasuko doesn't care much for cucumbers, which is odd for a kappa. She'll eat them to please her parents and their rule 'you eat what is served on the table' but they're definitely not a favorite food. Now that she's living in the Amityville Academy dorms, Hasuko regularly picks the cucumbers out of her food with impunity and leaves them on her plate. It's a small rebellion but it still obscurely pleases her to do so. (For the record, Hasuko's favorite food is actually amanattou (candied red beans and other legumes)).
Why did they enroll at the academy? Hasuko's parents picked Amityville Academy due to its prestigious academic record and its well-respected staff of professors and teachers. Hasuko is going because that's where her parents said to go. She's excited about the school and her classes through she's a little nervous about living away from her home river for the first time. Hopefully she won't get too homesick.
Fear:
Natural Ability: Hasuko is a kappa and like all members of her species, she is a naturally good swimmer and can breathe under fresh water.
Also, so long as the dish of water on her head is full, Hasuko is deceptively strong for her appearance (about equal to an adult human male). Of course, that is if her dish is full. If Hasuko somehow spills her water she can get dizzy, weak, or even blackout, depending one how much water she loses, unable to revive until she's placed back into water or her dish is refilled. Because of this, Hasuko can get a bit edgy if people touch her head or if she's in a hot environment where her water could evaporate.
Fear Ability - Water Balloon Fight: Hasuko can summon small spheres of water and physically lob them about much like one would a water balloon or a faceball.
These water balls don't do any actual damage (unless her opponent is extraordinarily water-soluble) but it is distracting and has the possibility of being momentarily blinding (dice roll decides the quality of the water, with low roll = regular clean water; high roll/crit = muddy stinky swamp water).
Hasuko physically throws these water balls, which also limits their range and accuracy. She has a decent throwing arm but obviously she can't hit far away or fast moving targets very well.
Physical Description: Hasuko is a kappa, a Japanese water monster. Typical noteworthy traits for kappa include their scaly green/blue skin, webbed fingers and toes, small beak similar to a duck or turtle, small stubby turtle-like tail, and a shallow water-filled dish on the top of their head.
Eye Colour: Blue grey.
Hair Colour/Style: Dark green to almost brown/black hair. Slightly below chin length in a gentle A-line bowl cut. ((If you're familiar with the anime series Aria, think similar to Aika's second haircut)). Example
Skin Colour: Light scales in shades of green and blue.
Clothing Style/Colours: Before Hasuko came to Amityville Academy, her mother bought most of her clothes so Hasuko's clothing style tends towards modest and practical with a slight Asian flair. Hasuko herself isn't that into fashion but she does try a little to make herself look pretty (though more often then not she unintentionally tends towards 'cute') and she has a fondness for cute patterned clothes and the color pink.
For the most part, Hasuko's wardrobe consists of kimono style wrap tops, khaki style shorts, and wooden sandals. Hasuko prefers to wear stuff that dries easily since she often goes swimming.
Extra: Hasuko wears reading glasses. She doesn't really like wearing them but her parents won't let her get her vision corrected. So she's stuck wearing them for now.
She also carries around a backpack that looks a lot like a small turtle shell when she's wearing it on her back.
