GOOD types of inflation?
You're probably thinking, "Ohman, you have GOT to be shitting me!"
But no, there is good types of inflation. And here are the kinds below:
Inflation due to demand:
These kinds usually go down, if they're on an item that just came out, or on uncommons/rares/event items that are generally really wanted.
Certain things that can trigger these:
New poses coming out with the items, new ways to equip the items, the date of the event (halloween, christmas, easter) nearing.
Prime examples of the inflation: Nitemare headbands, S gaia shirts, jack items, etc;
Inflation due to lack of the items:
These usually happen when there isn't very many of the items in circulation, since most people will want them then.
Things that can trigger these:
Certain amounts of trophies being released, or trophy-like items.
Prime examples of the items:
Labcoats, fish masks, medals, trophies, etc;
~I got really lazy with this, if anyone wants to add more to this, just post here.
Also.. yeah. <_<; Any other kinds of inflation are generally bad, but these ones above, people really shouldn't detest, AT ALL. :>

Riding Inflation ::
Yes it is a sad fact BUT most people do ride inflation, without thinking it's "hmm...maybe this chain wallet can do me good if i too put it up on the marketplace" *jacks the price up*
NO! Ok, we know why people do it? it's so obvious, it usually stares us straight in the face at the wrong times.
Our Quest.
Yes, that one item which really is yours, you want it so bad, yet it seems so far. So, your best option is to ride inflation. Which isnt good. When you jack-up one item, you'll either be countered by some good gaian, who sends aload of ..... onto the marketplace to lower them down. Or you'll just cause inflation, which will then trigger other kinds of inflation.
"Oh what? Chain wallets shouldnt be rising like that. I want my Emo bag to be worth that..."
*Jacks Emo bag up*
"What? everyone HATES Emo bags, what are they doing so high? I know! my Golden laurels should be worth that, so much better."
*Inflates Golden Laurels.*
Now we are lucky this doesnt happen, xD. but if it did, can you see the mayhem? You want to leave "Jacking" items up well alone, as this way of inflation does not really do no-one any good.
Yes, we all want items but sometimes sticking to the ways you know to get gold [fishing, exchanging, sealed whore, posting, polling, competitions, arenas etc.] can prove best.
Artificial inflation IS BAD.

Another point on riding inflation, and how it's bad, is how people don't understand that when making things inflate, that makes other things inflate.
Example (all numbers used for this example ARE NOT CALCULATED, ..because I am straight up, lazy):
5 chain wallets = 1 OMG 3 OMG = sash.
NOW, if someone decides that, "oh my chain wallet should be worth this amount of money, so I'm going to help people with artificial inflation with riding, I'll be closer to completing my sash quest!" .. and puts their wallet in the market for say, 300k - that makes the prices of OMGs go up, and ultimately, makes prices for sashes go up aswell.
Some people don't think about that above factor.

To add to that, Inflating prices of items purposely will make it harder for people to get the items, which could then cause
~sudden item drops ~unstability ~unknown price
this is because, while more people are wanting the item, than actually owning, they override the sellers to put them down in price. If there's no one to buy the item eventually they will go down. or become unstable. 3nodding

I believe you forgot inflation due to Age. Like a good whine, older items are considered "classics", and thus worth more than newer items in general. Thou, with all respect, I have to say that I don't agree with what She Killer said, except for maybe older 03 items... She Killer Another point on riding inflation, and how it's bad, is how people don't understand that when making things inflate, that makes other things inflate. Example (all numbers used for this example ARE NOT CALCULATED, ..because I am straight up, lazy): 5 chain wallets = 1 OMG 3 OMG = sash. Anything under OMG isn't valued in "how many lower items it can get" (generaly speaking), however it MAY have the oposite action, and devalue older items... Think like this: (values aren't very accurate...if at all) Sash = ~ 2.2 Mil Omg = ~700K (x2 = 1.4 Mil) Horns of the Demon = 130K ( x4 = 520K) Now, if someone, under these prices, offered 2 OMGs for a Sash, he'd be missing 800K... If someone was to inflate, say, Horns of the Demon up to 200K a piece, this would mean that they could just do: 2x Omg + 4x horns of the demon.. Now once deflation hit, and Horns were back to valueing 130K, this would mean that the person, who previously had an offer of 2.2 Mil as he was searching for, now had sold his sash for an offer of 1.9 Mil... I hope this made any sense sweatdrop ninja

For sake of space, SK's wonderful post on inflation will be posted here.She Killer It is generally a hard task to determine whether or not something is being artificially inflated, or if the demand is going up for them really, really fast, BUT, here are some things to look for: (every example below does not have properly priced items, they are just examples) 1. If the item has a really unstable price, and you've noticed it rising and dropping frequently, in a short period of time. Example: Say june 2004 letters were 50,000g on friday, early in the morning. You went to sell some items, so you could get demon horns later on in the day. You went back to buy the item, and the letters were 75,000g, after 4 hours. 2. If you KNOW the item should be cheap, but it's not. Example: May 2004 letters should be pretty cheap, should they not? There's next to no one that wants them, and there's a large supply for them. So, say you decided you wanted one, just for.. whatever reason. You went to look them up in the marketplace, and low and behold, they were 50,000g. 3. If there should be a large supply of the item, but there's only a few in the vend. Example: There should be a buttload of december 2005 items in the vend. However, if you were to look them up, and there was only one, or two pages of them, and the prices were extremely high. Then that could be a sign of artificial inflation. REMEMBER, inflation of seasonal items (christmas, halloween, easter, etc; ) around the season is NOT artificial, it's the demands going up at a really, really fast rate. It may look like artificial inflation, since it has a lot of the warning signs, but it is not. Not all of the above shows artificial inflation, too. Before judging something artificially inflated, remember to check the facts, and use common sense. Also, check my other thread, on the good types of inflation, to make sure you're not wrong before judging.
