What was a life? Sakn couldn't stop the question from ringing in his mind. Those were the words that man said before he--before he--
The redhead felt a wave of nausea wash over him as his thoughts traveled back to moments before. Moments before when he had taken the chinese dao, Hyun Chun, and stabbed Sothy's murderer right through the chest. Had watched as the man bled out, choking on his own red-stained spit. Sakngea watched because Hyun told him to. And he could still taste the excitement on his tongue, even now when all Sakn wanted to feel was disgust, fear.
Part of him was disgusted with killing, but there was another part, the part Hyun trained and taught, that craved it. Even now, when his stomach turned and he felt ill, Sakngea had a blood thirst deep in his veins. It made the tips of his fingers itch, made his skin crawl with goosebumps when ever someone passed by. He stood back up when his stomach settled, and he touched the handle of the sword tied at his waist. How strange it was to have a heavy weapon strapped to him, but how foreignly comforting. Sakn ran his fingers along the used handle, feeling the sparks of power feeding from Hyun Chun into him. It made him want to destroy everyone who dared to even look at him wrong.
But now was not the time, and he felt more then heard Hyun whisper that into his ear. Later, later they would kill more. She would help him to protect his loved ones. And then the tingling was gone, and Sakn felt as if he had walked into a wall. His body slumped and his face was emotionless; completely exhausted. And it was then that Sakngea realized that his hands were bloody, his knuckles split and bleeding(when did that happen?), and his clothing was less then innocent. And even though it was falling into late evening, people were still out, and quiet a few had eyed him as they passed.
The redhead ducked down a back alley as soon as he could, and stalked through the shadows, his feet dragging across the ground as he replayed things in his head. It was uncertain what he was thinking about, his face was like a mask, and his eyes only glinted with the barest of emotions. It was after a few minutes that the boy came back, and rubbed his face against his arm to rid himself of the dark thoughts that had been distracting him.
By now Sakn knew much of the City, and as he walked down the alleys, he felt reassured by the buildings around him. This was a part of town that he walked often with Xiu--before all of this. The redhead frowned then, and the comfort faded away. Xiu. He hadn't seen the boy for over a month, and Sakn feared their reunion as much as he hoped for it. Would the monk boy hate him?
Sakn looked at his bloodied hands as he turned a corner back onto the main streets, and his frown deepened. The hands of a killer. Would Xiu be willing to let these hands any where near him?
He'll only complicate everything.
Sakn ignored the way Hyun's voice dripped into his mind, and shook it off as he walked down the road. He knew that, knew that until everything was made right, having Xiu around would only hinder his plans. But the redhead couldn't help how he felt. When he agreed to let Hyun work with him, he found that his feelings became intensified. Anger was now rage, sadness now depression, and when he thought of Xiu.
It was like someone was breaking him apart from the inside.
"I won' let him," the redhead whispered, and felt the smooth-as-silk laughter slide through his mind.
Neither will I, sweet.

The end of autumn came slowly for Xiu. The last month had been nothing but torture, a time filled with worry and a deep seeded of regret. He’d asked himself many times why he hadn’t been able to find Sakn. Good enough even. He’d tried so hard to find his friend, to find the person he’d spent that one blissful night with. But his attempts had been futile. Even as a desperate fear crept into him after reading all those letters, he still hadn’t found the strength within himself to find Sakn.
It was as if the redhead had been wiped off the face of the earth. If not for the letters, Xiu would almost have convinced himself of Sakn’s death. No matter how hard he searched, he couldn’t find that bright burst of Sakn’s aura. Which, perhaps, was another good thing. If Sakn was dead then Xiu would most certainly have found him.
For the moment though, Xiu had almost given up hope, letting his sadness settle over him like a dark shroud. Gods, how he worried for Sakn.
Xiu scrubbed a hand over his face, trying to push the thoughts away as he pulled water from the temple well. He focused on not spilling the water as he poured it into a glass vase. At least he had something to think about now. Determined, Xiu lifted the awkward container and wobbly made his way back towards the gates of the inner sanctuary.
Something made him stop though. Feeling creeped out, Xiu turned, squinting in the dark. He saw a flash of familiar red up the dirt road and something clenched inside of him. With a startled gasp, Xiu dropped his armload, letting the vase shatter noisily to the ground. He was already running towards the color of red before the water had even seeped into the ground.
“Sakn!” He nearly screamed, turning down a dark corner. “Sakn? Sakngea where are you?” Xiu looked around desperately wondering if he was going crazy, wondering if he’d really seen Sakn.

He had seen the temple, and for a moment, Sakn almost headed towards it. Almost. But he couldn't; couldn't let himself be distracted, couldn't let Xiu be aware of what was going on. This was his plan, his mission, not his friend's. Not Xiu's. He took another path away from the temple instead, and as he turned a corner, the temple now out of sight(but far from out of mind), a voice shattered his fragile resolve.
'Sakn? Sakngea, where are you?"
The fisherboy's face crumpled and he came to a jerking stop. He heard that voice and it was like being struck by lightening. The redhead felt weak, and he had to place a hand against the wall beside him to keep from falling over. "Xiu," he whispered to himself, screwing his eyes shut. He couldn't turn back. He had to go.
Do not give in. Don't be weak, sweet.
Sakn clutched the sword-hilt as Hyun Chun spoke, but he felt now power from the blade now, and when he moved to walk away from that voice, his legs denied to move. A single exhausted sob escaped his chapped lips, and Sakn slammed his fist against the stone wall. He couldn't leave. Not when he could hear the desperation in Xiu's voice.
He had hurt the one person he had never wanted to.
You are foolish. If he even tries to stop us... She left the sentence unfinished, and Sakn growled to himself. He knew that. He just had to see Xiu. Just right now, he had to see the boy.
Sakngea's heart was racing as he slowly turned back around the corner, and his face was as blank as he could make it when he caught Xiu's eyes.
"Hey, Xiu," he managed, mentally smacking himself as he spoke. 'Hey, Xiu'? After being gone for a month, without warning, and the best he could do was 'Hey, Xiu'? "Y'you're looking well," he spoke carefully, and though it was physically Sakn, right down to the way his eyebrows scrunched when he was nervous, it was obvious something was different. He spoke clearly now; his words sounded more refined, more feminine. If only just slightly.

Breathless, Xiu just stood there. For a moment, it seemed like Sakn would ignore himself completely. Strangely, Xiu found himself tense for a chase, but when Sakn turned to face him, he let out a gust of relieve air. Briefly, words escaped him as he drank in the sight of the redhead. His eyes traced over Sakn’s face, down the curve of his strong jaw and to his more than tattered looking clothes. He’d missed the blood completely, the shadows hiding the stains on Sakn. All Xiu registered was that Sakn, HIS Sakn, was standing before him. Real and alive.
“Hey…Sakn.” Xiu echoed, voice tight with emotion. Sakn sounded different and Xiu didn’t know why. Perhaps he just didn’t remember Sakn properly. It’d felt like years since he’d last seen the male. “I’m fine, you know? You look well too.”
Things felt awkward. Xiu was resisting the urge to run for Sakn, not knowing how the other would take it. Need won out before prudence though. “Oh, Sakn!” Tears were already running down Xiu’s face as he went to Sakn, practically throwing himself into those strong arms. “I missed you so, so much. I was frightened that…I don’t even want to think about it anymore. You’re here Sakn. Finally!”
Shamelessly, Xiu wept. He knew he was being clingy and soppy, even as he reached up to cover Sakn’s face in gentle kisses. He didn’t care though, even though he knew Sakn might push him away. It was okay, because the heavy weight of the unknown had been lifted from him and for the first time in a long while, he could breath easily now that he knew that Sakn was alive and well.

Sakn watched the way Xiu's eyes glinted in the minimal light of the night. Tears stained his cheeks and Sakn's heart twisted. He had made this happen. When Xiu spoke of what he thought had happened, when his voice cracked and he cut himself off, the redhead looked away. He hadn't meant to frighten Xiu, to make him worry.
Why are you acting so weak?
There was a sting in his hand, a painful burning sensation as Hyun grew irritated with the way Sakn was thinking. This Xiu only ruined what she had worked so hard to build. She wanted Sakn to leave, to forget this boy. They had work to do, and had no time for romantic fancies.
But it seemed Xiu would not let this happen as he threw himself at the redhead. Sakn's face looked shocked at first, and he grasped Xiu's shoulders, as if to push him away(perhaps to save the monk from being covered in blood), but those arms around him, holding him. Those words, so soft and full of emotion. And the way Xiu' pulled him down to cover his face in kisses. The way his breath ghosted over Sakngea's face.
"Xiu," Sakn murmured, feeling a swell of emotion deep inside of himself as those lips pressed against his cheeks, his lips, his forehead. This was where he wanted to be. This was all he needed. This was h---
The redhead gasped sharply as a surge of pain coursed through his body. Do you forget? I gave you power to protect this boy. You cannot give up on me yet, unless you wish to see them all dead. Do not forget your deal.
The redhead looked exhausted once again when Hyun spoke, and he held Xiu at arms-length now. He had to keep check on his feelings, couldn't become over-whelmed. How he wanted nothing more then to hide away with Xiu, but the thought of the boy dead in the streets because he hadn't kept his promise to become strong enough to protect him upset Sakn. "I am here, Xiu. But I cannot stay here," he spoke in that very un-Sakn tone still, and his eyes wouldn't meet Xiu's. Wouldn't look at the blood he had left on those robes. Had Xiu even noticed?
"Xiu, I am not who I was before."

Xiu had expected Sakn to pull away, but not in the manner in which he did it. The sharp gasp had him immediately searching the redhead’s face and biting his lower lip in confusion. Something…wasn’t right. He wanted to touch Sakn again, but the boy’s, man’s, hands on his shoulders were strong enough that he didn’t want to struggle against them. Sakn was different and Xiu wasn’t sure why. He searched that freckled face again and when the moon came out from behind a cloud, he saw the stains of blood as well.
He refused to panic. He forced himself to keep his expression the same. He’d seen blood before, that was nothing new. However, the sight blood on Sakn only intensified his sense of wrongness. What had happened?
“People change Sakn.” Xiu said slowly, his eyes firmly fixed on Sakn’s. “And that’s okay. I still--” He paused, looking away for a moment, the words caught in his throat. He’d promised himself though. He promised that the next time he would see Sakn he would tell him how he felt. It was something that needed to be said, even if Sakn knew it, those words needed to be said out loud.
“Sakn. I’ll always love you. No matter what happens. You know that, right?” Xiu assured softly, reached up to wipe away a few flecks of blood from one cheek. “Come back with me to the temple Sakn. We can talk more there. You can tell me all about your training period. I won’t keep you long. I promise.”
Perhaps he would also be able to find out why Sakn seemed so different. It wasn’t a difference that came with change or new knowledge. It was something else and it made Xiu too sick to even think about for long. He vowed to find out though. He would help Sakn.

Sakn closed his eyes as the moon peeked out from between the clouds. The light was intense on his eyes(he had become a night owl during his time away), or perhaps he closed them because he didn't want to see Xiu's face. But there was only silence, and the redhead felt panic bubbling up in him, an intense emotion that made Sakngea's body tingle, aggression kicking in. He didn't want to be eyed, to judged. Who was Xiu to judge him? He was to judge others! The redhead opened his eyes, anger sparking in his eyes--
And he found himself looking into Xiu's. Fixated, he stared at those eyes; so sure, but also nervous. Not judging, just yearning to know. Sakn swore he heard a frustrated sigh tickle his thoughts, but brushed Hyun away like a stray cobweb. And when Xiu spoke, the young man's lingering agitation was brushed away. His heart skipped a beat as he listened, and Sakn's eyes searched the monk's face, as if to reassure that this was all real. But he couldn't respond, couldn't say those words back. Not now, when things were still wrong in the world.
And again, it was not Xiu's words, nor his eyes, that helped to reassure the redhead. It was those hands, the way he reached up calmly to brush dried blood off his cheek. So calm, so gentle. The barest of shakes that made Sakn's brows knit.
'Come back with me to the temple, Sakn. We can talk more there.'
Sakn raised his eyes from Xiu's then and glanced at the temple. How often he had come here, in much better times then now, and visited Xiu and the monks. He knew many of them by name now. How could he face them now?
Do not go in there. I dislike this boy, and this place.
Sakn felt the tug in his soul, the anger Hyun was emitting was painful. He heard Xiu promise not to keep him long, and then glanced down at the dao and swallowed. I will leave you here then. I won't be long, he thought in his firmest tone. Hyun Chun was like a fire in his chest then, and he felt guilt and pain crawl under his skin. How dare he suggest such a thing! She had taught him everything he knew now. She had given him power.
But the feeling ebbed, and Sakn shuddered slightly as Hyun Chun's saccharine voice flooded his mind, I have decided. you may leave me here. Perhaps seeing him once will be enough for you, stupid, sweet boy. Put me down and enjoy this time. But know that I will not be so kind tomorrow.
Sakn felt his stomach twist. Tomorrow, he could already taste blood on his tongue. A day to prove his worth to her.
The redhead looked at Xiu then, and slowly removed the dao from his hip, and set it down against the stone wall. He then spoke in a voice that sounded more like himself, "Le's go, Xiu. I can' stay long, but I would like t'see you," he quickly moved indoors and glanced back at Xiu. While Hyun was outside, he felt half-gone. It was like she had become part of his soul. He looked less emotional, and his body slouched. So emotionally drained.
"I'm sorry, Xiu," he said softly as they walked down the halls. He could hear his voice slide through the air in the silence that surrounded them, and his heart was quickening in beat. He felt so weak right now, so uncertain. With out Hyun he felt afraid. What a strange experience, to be afraid around the one person he trusted the most.

Xiu noticed the way Sakn removed his weapon and sat it against the wall. He didn’t comment though. It wasn’t strange for some warriors to strip themselves of their weapons before entering the holy ground of the temple. That had to do with religion though and Xiu wondered if Sakn had found some form of belief or another. It was yet another question of many that Xiu needed to ask.
“I’ve been wanting to see you as well.” Xiu agreed, leading Sakn into a small side room used for confessionals and prayer. “You don’t have to be sorry for having other business either. I understand. Please, sit?” He motioned to the low table near the center of the floor and the soft pillows that served as chairs.
Grasping for something to say, Xiu occupied himself with a chest in the far, letting the heavy silence settle in the room. It was a foreboding silence, yet he didn’t know why. He’d never been one for premonitions but he was unsettled nonetheless as he rummaged in the chest for a small medical box. The same one that had been used to treat Jianyu all that time ago in fact.
“I noticed your hands are scrapped. You aren’t hurt anywhere else are you?” Xiu asked, elegantly dropping to his knees beside Sakn, box in hand. This one mundane part of life was the only thing keeping him from panicking at the sight of blood all over Sakn. In the lamp light it seemed even more prominent. Xiu could only thank the gods that none of it seemed to be Sakn’s.
“That’s a fine sword you carry.” Xiu took Sakn’s left hand gently in his own and began to doctor it, cleaning away the blood and dust from what had obviously been caused in a fight. “Did you find a good master? I got your letters, but I was unsure what to make of them. I wanted to send my own letters in return but I didn’t know where you were staying.”
Pausing Xiu bit his lip as he wrapped soft white gauze around Sakn’s knuckles. He was trying to be polite and distanced from the situation but he couldn’t hold it in any longer.
“What has happened to you Sakn?’ Xiu blurted, his eyes turned towards his friend. “Are well? Are you really doing alright? Please, just answer me that.”

Dullness became awkwardness as Sakngea walked beside the boy, and when they entered the prayer room, he was nearly static with nervousness. Xiu's voice was like a shock against his skin, and the redhead jerked away for a moment, only to remember where he was. His face softened then. Xiu was accepting his apology, which was surprise. Sakngea had expected anger, hurt, confusion. Not acceptance. There was glimmer of softness in the redhead's eyes then, and he carefully sat down where Xiu had motioned.
There was silence then, a silence that burned Sakn's skin and made the hairs on his neck stand at attention. It felt as if a blanket had been dropped across the room, muffling all sound, and Sakngea could see that Xiu was uncomfortable. "Xiu--," he started, hoping to ease the nervousness in the other boy's eyes, but already the brunette had stood up and was rummaging through a chest. Sakn tried to see what he was getting, but Xiu quickly enlightened him as he turned back towards the fisherboy and spoke.
He couldn't speak, because this all felt so unreal, so like a dream. His eyes followed Xiu as the boy dropped to his knees beside him; the way he gently washed away the blood and dirt both frightened and pleased Sakngea, and when the boy had finished cleaning his hand and bandaged his raw knuckles, he wrapped his fingers around Xiu's. "Sh--It issa fine sword, yes," he looked slightly to the left as he continued to speak, as if he couldn't look Xiu in the eye right then; his hand still gently holding the other boys as he spoke, "I did find one, 'er name is Hyun Chun, but more on her lat--"
He was cut off by Xiu's questions, and his face flushed with a mixture of irritation and frustration. He was more then fine, in a sense. Hyun had given him the power to protect his loved ones, and while he had had to sacrifice some things, it had been worth it(hadn't it?). "Nothing happened," the redhead all but snapped, his eyes trailing down to look at his and Xiu's hands, "An' I'm fine, Xiu. I am here with you, 'n' that is all tha' matters right now. Is that a good enough answer?" there was a certain strain, a sharp edge, to Sakn's voice as he said this, like he was begging(or warning, perhaps?) Xiu not to pry. Every question the boy asked picked away at the wall Sakn had created, made him question if he really was alright. And Sakngea didn't want to question anything, because if he questioned himself, he would no longer be able to protect anyone. He had to believe in Hyun, like she had said.
Xiu had to understand that, didn't he?

Xiu continued to watch Sakn closely, listening to the lilt of his voice. Oh, how he’d missed the sound of Sakn voice and all the times that they’d spent together. It had felt like an eternity since their carefree days out on the ocean, doing nothing in particular and just being with each other. The thought alone was enough to bring tears to his eyes again and he tightened his hold on Sakn’s hands. What had happened to his friend? Sakn was like a brother to him. More even. And it hurt to see the person he looked up to crumbling around the edges.
What had happened?
At the harshness of Sakngea’s voice, Xiu flinched, but didn’t pull away. Screwing his face into something akin to determination, Xiu pressed onward, “No, it’s isn’t enough Sakn. I want it to be, gods how I want it to be, but I want you to be okay even more.” Refusing to start weeping awgain, Xiu dropped his head to stare at his and Sakn’s hands. “Something happened to you Sakn, something that had nothing to do with Sothy’s death. I know you want revenge Sakn, but you can’t go on like this!”
He knew he was being utterly ridiculous, rambling on and on about some vague feeling in the back of his head. But there WAS something wrong. There just had to be and he couldn‘t ignore the strangeness of Sakn any longer. Xiu refused to believe that the person he cared so deeply for and changed so much for the worst. He wanted to help Sakn. Somehow.
“Please Sakn. Please, tell me what happened? You’re letters…began to frighten me in the end. I was so frightened for you.” Xiu looked up into Sakn’ face, eyes beseeching. He nearly went on to say more until a large shadow darkened the doorway with a rumbling growl. It was Bai Hu. The tiger had finally come into his own, and though young, was clearly a massive beast. The cat sauntered into the room and laid regally beside Xiu, golden eyes glinting eerily in the dark. Xiu merely assumed his familiar had come to check Sakn out and thought nothing of it.

"No."
It was strange to hear that coming from Xiu. He had not expected the boy to stand up to him, to demand more. Wild, unhealthy green eyes looked up from where he had been staring at their hands. There was a fire in Xiu's eyes, one that had not been so vivid when the redhead had left. It was shocking, and evident on Sakn's face that he had not expected any of this. He listened to Xiu speak, and the look of shock quickly became one of anger.
It was like hearing Jianyu again. How strange to hear someone else tell him that he couldn't go on as he was. How irritating to hear someone tell him what he could and couldn't do to exact his revenge(the revenge he had already gotten; proof of it splattered across his clothing and face). The anger bubbled in his stomach, and Sakn ripped his hands from Xiu's and slammed a fist down on the table. "Dammit, Xiu!" he snapped, his face hot with an angry flush. The one person he had hoped would let him do this was now telling him to stop. Sakn could barely contain the anger he felt, the betrayal that surged in him. Xiu spoke of his change as if it was a bad thing. As if Sakn hadn't done all of this for him.
"...I was so frightened for you.
The words broke through his anger, surprisingly, and Sakngea's eyes dulled as the intensity of his violent emotions left him. He unclenched his fist and then reclenched it as his hand shook. He could not tell Xiu everything, even if he wanted to. Hyun would be upset with him, he knew she would be. But the redhead wasn't dumb, he knew that Xiu was not going to give up, so when he turned back Xiu, he spoke what he hoped was a convincing lie, "I spen' a lotta time in d'forests. I thought I was lost," he probably was, "It was then tha' I found," he paused, hand touching absent-mindedly to the spot where his sword, Hyun Chun, usually resided. But his hand only met air; he remembered leaving her outside, "Hyun Chun. She was an ex-Legionnaire, and she taught me. I was very distressed, Xiu," he could taste the lie on his tongue, bitter and wrong, but hoped it would ease Xiu's worried soul, "Those letters were written by me when I wus under a lotta stress," he then reached up, cupping Xiu's cheeks as he spoke, his thumb brushing the boys cheek, "Buh she taught me a lot, Xiu. And while i'seems frightening, don't worry. She is a wise woman, and I won't ever let anythin' come between us. I won' let no one hurt you or anyone. I have so much power," his eyes grew wider at the mention of power, like it was some magic word that turned him mad. His voice was steel and his eyes intense, focused on Xiu's. He believed, in his mind, that Hyun's power made him invincible.
"I can d--" his sentence was cut off by a horrifically inhuman, womanly cry which was not Sakn(lies), and he jumped to his feet as the giant creature prowled into the room. It was a giant beast of a cat, and Sakn did not recognize him at first. He only felt an animosity(perhaps from Hyun, who could sense the tiger from outside) as he stared into those golden eyes. The cat knew. He could see it in those eyes. The cat didn't trust Hyun, he could feel it in that gaze.
And then something clicked in Sakn's brain, and the cloud of distrust that had spread through him at the sight of the tiger faded as he recognized that face. It was Bai Hu, albeit much larger.
The redhead dropped back down beside Xiu and looked at the great regal cat in awe. Then he realized that this was the perfect opportunity to draw attention away from himself. The perfect time, indeed. "Don' tell me this is Bai Hu, that scruffy little ball'a fur you had followin' you a month ago!" The redhead grinned up at Xiu, putting on his most deceiving look. No more talk tonight, he feared his anger and Xiu's pushy need to know everything. No more serious talk, at least.
Sakngea hoped the act was convincing, though he wished more then anything he didn't have to act in the first place. But this kept Xiu safer, didn't it? Hyun would not stop to remove the boy from her path, Sakngea knew that. So he had to be careful, for Xiu's sake. It was like a double edged sword.

Xiu had jumped nearly a mile high when Sakn exploded like that, the sound of his fist on the table alarming. Sure, he knew Sakn and his volatile temper, had seen it many times before. This was different though. It was something much more dangerous. Xiu tried to ignored the frantic thudding of his heart and resisted the urge to lean forward as Sakn spoke.
This was important. Xiu wasn’t sure what to make of what Sakn said exactly, but he knew he’d been thinking about it a lot later. Hyun Chun? And exactly was an ex-Legionnaire? No one just stopped being in the Legion. You either lived for them or you died. Xiu kept his questions to himself though, not wanting to stop Sakn sudden story telling. Xiu didn’t know what to be believe, so he believed it all for the sake of hope. He ignored that crazed look in Sakn face or how all the air sucked from the room leaving him breathless. This was Sakn, his BEST friend. How could Xiu not believe him. He wanted to believe.
The appearance of Bai Hu was both a blessing and an irritation. Sakn had stopped talking, focusing on the tiger now. Xiu wanted to hear more, yet he wasn’t sure if he could bare it. Bai’s presence soothed him. Everything would be okay with the familiar near.
Absently, Xiu reached out to stroke the great beast’s head. “Of course it’s Bai Hu, Sakn!” Xiu tried to smile but it was strained at best. “I can’t believe it either. Who would have thought?” His attention wasn’t on Bai though. Xiu stared at Sakn, and for a brief moment he saw a flash of his old friend. His REAL one. The tenseness of the situation from only moments before shook Xiu to the core but the sight of that seemingly genuine smile did so even more.
“Oh, Sakn.” Without realizing, Xiu found himself all but flinging into Sakn’s arms. He threw his arms around Sakn’s neck and held him tightly, burying his face in so much red hair. Xiu refused to let Sakn go.

Sakn eyed the tiger, Bai Hu, and couldn't find words. How strange, so many things changing in the little time he had been gone. The redhead felt his smile become more natural as he watched Xiu pet the gentle beast, and it was almost like being back before all of the bad things that had happened. But as the smile softened more and more, Sakn felt the walls he had raised around himself, the ones Hyun had helped him build, falling, and those eyes steeled once again as Sakngea pulled himself back. He could not be soft now, not when there was so much left to do(We will stop the war Sakn, we will kill all of the Legion, and make everything my...I mean, our way. We will change history.), he had to be strong for Xiu and his mother, and his father. For Kiran and Yue. Make the world again, just for them.
Sakn was so deep in thought he didn't catch what Xiu said, and only came back to when the boy was colliding into him, his face buried deep against Sakn's neck, hiding in his hair it would seem. The redhead resisted stiffening, though he take a moment before raising his hands to clasp Xiu to him. He felt an inkling of guilt for leaving, for being so closed off, but brushed it away. Sometimes you had to suffer to achieve your goals; Sakn hoped Xiu would understand that. Instead of focusing those annoying feels, Sakn focused on the feelings which had been sharpened with Hyun's training. Anger, passion, fear, the base feelings that affected everyone and anyone. These were the feelings Sakn felt best now, and as he held Xiu to him, his heart raced a hundred miles an hour, and he clutched the boy tighter to himself.
"I promise, I won' leave, ever again," the redhead said softly, foolishly. But he didn't care, because right now all that mattered was being here with his best friend. feeling Xiu alive and well against him, safe here from any of the lurking dangers(like himself) that roamed at night. His eyes caught Bai Hu's and he felt a chill run up his spine as their eyes connected for a moment. Would the tiger have been able to speak, he would have told Xiu everything, because Sakn could see it in the beast's eyes that he knew. But the redhead didn't dwell long; already his attention was back Xiu, and he pulled back slightly to look the young monk in the face. Those bright eyes seemed to glow as energy pumped through Sakn's veins, and he smiled a smile that was his and yet not(too intense, too unreal), and leaned in to press his lips to the other boys in a lingering kiss.
He missed this the most, every morning as he laid to rest his eyes where ever Hyun told them to stop at, he would think about those kisses, because the feelings they ignited were strange and unfamiliar, frightening and exhilarating. Sakngea's heart skipped several beats as he pulled back, and he flashed the sharp smile again. "D'ya believe me?" there was more of his own self in his voice now, as if being around Xiu washed away the other parts of him, the Hyun parts.
This thought was followed by a warmness on his wrists and the back of his neck, like rope rubbing raw against his skin. A warning, it would seem, that Hyun was far from gone.
Sakn pressed his forehead to Xiu's then, ignoring the fading burn, and quirked his lips as their noses bumped. He would make Xiu forget all about his strange antics, for Xiu's own safety.

Xiu sighed before he drew in a deep breath, coming away with the scent of the ocean and something that was purely Sakn. He was sure that even if Sakn never returned to the ocean, he would always smell faintly off it. It was a nice smell and something that put Xiu as ease. Things could go back to being the same. Maybe. As long as Sakn smelled of the ocean, everything could go back. He reveled in the comforting thought, feeling safe and warm against Sakn while he was being held. Somehow, all the bad things just seemed so far away now.
He initially had intended to kiss Sakn, but had wavered, only to be pleased when soft lips were moving against his own. Of it’s own accord, Xiu tongue flicked out against Sakn’s lower lip, reveling the taste. If he was being honest about himself, he’d been thinking about that one night constantly since Sakn had vanished. Those soft kisses in the dark had been so intimate and for the first time in a long while, Xiu had felt content. Like now as Sakn promised him.
“I believe you Sakn.” He murmured, a smile blooming across his face when their noses bumped. He missed Sakn weird smile and the strange light in his eyes, only seeing what he so desperately wanted to see now.
Biting his lower lip, Xiu ran his fingers through Sakn’s hair, stopping at his nape to tease the smooth skin there. “Sakn, I…” Trailing off, he searched for words. It was something he’d been wanting to ask. The kisses were nice of course, but with the niceness came confusion and questions. “Sakn,” Xiu tried again, “does this mean we’re…friends?” He stressed the word, implying the suggestion and hoping Sakn would catch it.
