Hooray! The book for this however long is an epic from Finnish mythology. We're using an old translation because you can read it here if you don't have a copy (my guess is most of us don't). Go go discussion!

Reading the introduction, I loved this quote from Tacitus: ""The Finns are extremely wild, and live in abject poverty. They have no arms, no horses, no dwellings; they live on herbs, they clothe themselves in skins, and they sleep on the ground. "
It took me far too long to work out he meant "weapons". I had this image of Finnish people running around with no arms. xd

There's so much in this saga that it's best digested in small chunks. smile Enjoy your holidays!

Yes, but this year is busier than I've ever had. I've done two Yule rituals and one holiday party with the last two day devoted to holiday baking, three straight days of Christmas events coming, then my birthday and then new years. It really does feel like the twelve days of Christmas this year. I'm used to maybe three events over the course of the month.
Anyway, I really want to get started on this. The post to say I can't yet was more out of excitement and frustration than anything else.

lol well, I guess since I don't have to have a hard copy of the book rolleyes I might as well join in and read some. I've never been much of an epics-guru, but I'll give it a shot.
I will start reading it later tonight and try and read through a bit of it every day.
I'll post up later tonight about it too.

I'm going to start it tonight; I want to be a part of the book club. And I don't want to start Beowulf yet. Productive procrastination!
