Sa'chiel had left the pride of his birth early that morning – pausing only to inform his mother of his departure, lest she worry. He doubted that she would, but he still often felt the need to check in on the older female cheetah, having been a single mother with cubs to tend, and it had happened twice which Sa'chiel knew of.

The male shook his head, trekking across the rogue lands with an easy stride. This was what he knew best. Walking. Movement. A constant rhythm. This allowed him to drift off into his own thoughts, concentrating on everything and nothing all at the same time. Sometimes the male had thought of simply taking off, leaving his pride behind, but he couldn't. Even if he loved the freedom, he would hate the loneliness. He smiled to himself, thinking of his family. He had recently become an uncle! What a strange thought, his brother fathering cubs, but a welcome one at least.

It made Sa'chiel pause to think of his own life. He had friends in the pride, he loved his family, spent time with his siblings when he could, but he had no one of his own. He sighed, his walk steady and graceful, even if his thoughts were in turmoil as he pondered his life. A heavy subject on such a bright and cheerful day.

Tahnia was wandering the grassy lands of her home, as she did every day. It was always the same boring routine - wake, bathe, hunt, eat, sleep, repeat. Occasionally she'd try to mix things up - lounge in a tree for a while, find a small lake to float in, things like that - but her days still passed the same way: uneventful and purposeless.

This mundane existence was wearing Tahnia down. She hated it, hated not having a family or friends to laugh with. Sure, occasionally she'd come across someone who wanted to talk past the part of the conversation where they asked her for directions - she had fond memories of a male cheetah she was once smitten with - but none of them ever stayed long. They couldn't, or perhaps didn't want to. They all had their reasons, certainly, and Tahnia could understand - but life tended to be very lonely without someone to call a real friend.

The cheetah sighed as she walked, squinting against the bright sun overhead as she surveyed the area in search of her next meal.

Sa'chiel lowered his head as he walked, growing bored with the steady rhythm. He felt the need to shake it up a bit, and a bright smile lit up his face as his pace began to steadily increase. Soon, he was racing across the grassy area, his head bent low. He knew he couldn't keep this up for very long, but still, he enjoyed the momentary joy that came from being alone and running. The savanna became merely a blurr and he no longer saw any details. Instead, he felt the rush of his own heart, the thudding of his own paws and the movement which kept him going.

Unfortunately, he couldn't keep up his normal speed, and he was forced to slow rather quickly. His chest ached and his heart was racing too fast now for him too keep walking. He slowed to a walk, and finally stopped, panting in exertion. Still, he smiled.

That was fun,” he mused to himself, grinning. He waited a moment or two until the pain in his chest had passed, before he began to move slowly, as if his muscles ached from his brief sprint.
