Take the word apart. A-theism. The "a" indicates "not", or a lack. Like in "amoral", "asocial" or "apathetic". "Theism" indicates "belief in deity", number not specified. So "atheism" simply indicates a lack of belief in deity. It's also one belief, so you could believe in other things (animism, for example) and still technically be an atheist.

Lack of belief in a God and believing there is no God still functionally lead to the same thing. The difference is so slight as to make little or no difference in practice.

It's not a religion really so theres nothing to be complex about it.

We don't really have any traditions or anything.

you're looking at the wrong correction...

What he is trying to say is that you used this definition:
"Lack of belief in God."

He corrected you by saying:
"Lack of belief in any gods/goddesses/Divine-Like figures."

He's trying to say you made the definition sound like the disbelief in the Christian god. ( AKA God )
When, really, it's the disbelief in all of them.

There are two differences, and they are important. Call Me Apple said "God" and I said "gods". Call Me Apple said it's the belief that God doesn't exist, and I said it's a lack of belief that any gods exist.

Those who believe no gods exist are (a subset of) atheists, but they are ideologically different from bare atheism.

And by just saying "God" you're implying atheism just means not believing the christian god or something. It means not believing in any gods.

I didn't mean to imply the Christian God solely, pretty much any culture that worships a god (notice lower-case there for your viewing pleasure) capitalizes the name, hence me capitalizing God.

I realize there is a difference but functionally, as in how it's applied to everyday use, there's little to no difference. I'm not going to behave differently if I believe there are no gods versus if I lacked belief in gods.

I actually knew someone IRL who thought anyone who wasn't a christian was an atheist. Like, he would say "an atheist who worships the norse gods" and such. So I think that's important to clarify.

Believing there are no gods and not believing there are any gods might not be functionally different, but theists crazily attack "atheism" by saying "how do you know there's no God? You can't prove that!" Atheism doesn't have anything to do with knowing there's no God, though, so that too is important to correct.

Are you serious? I don't always specify either but when asked what atheism is I usually just get lazy and say a lack of belief in God and then most of the time add an (s) at the end of it. I think I'll make sure to make that distinction especially if some people think atheists believe in Gods outside of the Abrahamic faiths. That's just odd though, what are they teaching kids in school these days *shakes head*
