Kaym'itan rubbed his paw over his crimson eyes, wiping the last of sleep from his foggy brain. The sun was setting, and it was time for him to begin to get ready for his patrol.

Jumping out of his hammock and onto the spiral core of Home Tree, Kayn'itan stretched out to his full length. Back legs first, both together in a semi push up, then each on separately, toes wiggling one by one. Centering back up he lashed his tail about, rolled his neck, and snapped his jaw open and shut a few times. Lastly, he did his front legs, moving into a bow, paws stretched as far as they could go, tail and rear in the air, front toes wiggling.

The night scout let out a satisfied sigh, there was something truly enjoyable in a good stretch, and he held the position for several long breaths while he took inventory of which muscles hurt, and why they would. Some days he wondered if Toruk felt the same way. Eywa above, but not being a youth anymore was brutal!

Ru had been the pride for a few days. She had already noticed a lot of the pelts of the lions were that of a blue hue, or somewhere along the lines of a cool spectrum. She, on the other hand, felt like she stuck out like a sore thumb, her bright pelt very noticeable in the jungle amongst the family of lions.

She had already met a few lions, those who had brought her into the lands, as well as though she would just pass on a day by day basis. She would hear words spoken in some other kind of language, but never understood what they were saying. One day, she would know what others were speaking, and perhaps she as well could learn the language. For now, she just listened, and stored the phrases in her mind.

Rukopa-eupe had yet to create a hammock of her own, so she settled for lying on the ground. Even though the dirt would mark on bright pelt, she figured she would clean herself later; besides, she still was new in this pride, and did not quite know the customs and traditions these lions go through.

She would have to find someone to teach her soon.

The white lioness rose from her lying down position, stretching her limbs. Darkness was slowly beginning to etch over the lands. She walked from the tree she had nestled up against, keeping her blue eyes on all her surroundings.

Kaym'itan shook out his mane and stood up to his full height, indulging in a rare, full, yawn before heading down past the sleeping area and toward the Pride proper.

The night scout nodded to a few of those who greeted him by name, stopping to speak to Clem and her cubs, a warm expression on his muzzle as he let the little ones look at the red feathers and shiny beads that adorned him. Begging his leave of the little family, he moved on to where Turok stood.

After visiting with the brother of his heart, Kaym'itan slipped out into the gathering twilight, a small portion of meat in his mouth. He set it down on the branch in front of him, sitting down with the unconscious grace of a warrior, he tucked his tail around his paws and waited for the beauty of the jungle to awake before him.

This was the portion of his day he enjoyed the most, when Eywa's grace woke around him and the sounds of the day became those of the night.

She noticed a larger male stopping around, speaking with some of the members of the pride. Her ears flickered, hearing a few words spoken but not actually listening to the conversation. She didn’t like it when other lions intruded on her when she was speaking to another, so why would she do it to another. She watched as their talk ended, and the dark blue male take off from the group. A small ‘hmm’ sounded, as she quietly followed the male. She wondered where he was going, didn’t the members of the pride sleep at night?

Ru noticed that he set down a piece of food on a branch. Maybe it would be a bad time to speak to this lion? He was getting ready for a meal it seemed.

Well, a simple hello wouldn’t hurt. She smiled as she padded up next to the male. “Hello,” she said softly, sitting just a little bit behind the male. Her white tail curled around her paws, thumping on the ground every now and then.

Kaym'itan flicked an ear back as he heard the soft sounds of paws approaching, his nose lifting to the night air to try and catch the scent of his visitor. It was not one he recognized. Tilting his head to one side, he turned to look over his shoulder just as the light voice spoke.

Hello

Kaym'itan forgot to breathe, his crimson colored gaze spell bound by the white lioness who appeared from out of the twilight like a gift from Eywa. She was beautiful, with a coat the color of a Atokirina, a seed of the great tree. The night scout turned around, bringing his paw to his forehead and back down.

His deep voice rumbled in Nav'i, "Oel ngati kameie, Good evening to you."

*I see you
PostPosted: Wed Feb 23, 2011 6:03 pm

‘Oel ngati kameie…’ she had heard that saying before. Isn’t that what Txuratan had said to her the first day she had met him? ‘I see you,’ is what he had translated it to. She would one day get use to the traditional greeting, but right now, she continued to speak in the language she was brought up on. And she was quite glad that the lions of the pride also spoke ‘her’ language. It made conversing a little more easily.

“I don’t believe I have met you before,” she said, her blue eyes gazing into his bright crimson orbs. “My name is Rukopa-eupe.” Each day that had gone by she had met one more lion then before. She would be proud of herself once she met everyone in the pride, could speak their language, and could one day be considered ‘one of them'.

Kaym'itan bowed his head to her, "It is a pleasure to meet you Sister, I am called Kaym'itan, and it is not surprising you have not. I am often not awake when the rest of the Pride is. I am one of the Night Scouts."

He sat down, his tail coming to rest over his huge paws, his crimson eyes watching her with his intense gaze, " I was about to have my breakfast, and enjoy the jungle as she wakes to Eywa's night. Would you care to join me? If you have not seen it, it is something to experience."

Kaym'itan. So she had met three lions so far, each calling them 'brother and sisters'. She knew that they were actually related, but it must've been one of the pridal traditions. She would have to use that greeting when she felt more secure in the pride. "Night Scouts?" How intriguing.

She stood, inching closer to Kaym'itan so finally she sat next to him. She had never seen the jungle awaken at night. "I would love too," she spoke softly, watching the jungle before her.

Ru was silent for a moment, her tail making a very inaudible 'thud' every now and then. "Were you born here, Kaym'itan?" She, like Clerm, were told about the lands from stories. Txur however, was born here. Sometimes she wished she too had been born in the land, but she was sure glad she found the pride (even if not intentional).

Kaym'itan watched her as she settled, marveling at her beauty. He had been fascinated with Seze since before the war, but the Baby Sitter was nothing compared to the ethereal creature beside him. Her pure white coat was delicately imprinted with the patterns of Eywa's jungle, and her eyes..they were the color of Eywa's sky, delicate paws and muzzle...goddess above, she was simply breath taking.

Kaym'itan gave a wary half smile at her question, his eyes drifting out to watch the bioluminescense of the jungle waken as the last light faded from the sky. Around them, the Torukspxam, Mìnyu, and Eyaye plants lit up in their deep blues, incandescent greens, and bright violets. Off to the left a fan dragon spun into flight, causing its red light to play along her pale pelt.

" Yes, I was born here. I have been of the People since my first breath, and I serve them and Eywa as a Night Scout. It is my honor to do so, as it was to fight in the War." His deep voice was soft, his tone respectful as he answered her. His tail flicking quietly, accidentally grazing hers.

Ru’s eyes widened at the night before her. There was nothing this…this beautiful in the rogue lands at any part of the day, nor season. There was no light from the sun, but sure enough, the way the plants seemed to illuminate each other was just…magical, if that was a good word to use for it. Ru’s light blue eyes just watched in fascination at the dark blues, greens and purples. A large smile was even placed on her maw at the reflection of red light was casted upon her white coat. This was way better than the stories. Wish you could see what it is really like, mom, the female thought to herself, not taking her eyes off the scene before her.

She turned her attention back to Kaym’itan. Eywa…hadn’t the other two lions mentioned that word. A creator more of less, the mother of the land.

“Fight….war?” Her eyebrows rose in a questioning manner. Who would want to attack a land so magnificent as this one? It just didn’t seem right. When his tail grazed her ever so slightly, her ear twitched behind her, but said nothing. Only a smile remained on her maw, but the thoughts of this beautiful land in a war was almost heart wrenching. “That must’ve been were the stories my mother told me came from,” she said quietly, eyes down casted.

“The land looks as though it is recovering though. Eywa is helping do so?” She offered.

Kaym'itan turned back toward her, his crimson eyes reflecting the pattern of lights that danced along his dark coat, " Eywa maintains the balance of life, nothing more, nothing less. She guides us in our journey, allowing us to connect with each other, and our ancestors. She is the All Mother. The Atokirinaare her messengers, they are pure and scared spirits."

He looked at her then, his gaze steady, " They are white, as you are, and just as ...beautiful." The night scout could not believe that he had been so bold, but now that he had spoken the words, he found that he did not wish to take them back.

" It is good you do not know of the war, such a thing should not place its mark on you, on anyone." There was a tempered sorrow to his voice, that spoke of many loved ones lost, and a price that the night scout, like so many other of the warriors, of the Pride, had paid.

She nodded, understanding Kaym’itan words about Eywa. She still had a lot to learn, apparently. It would take time, but soon she would do so. When he spoke of the Atokirinaaa, he had her full attention. They were white and…just as beautiful as her…? If the lioness could blush, there would probably be a small pink tinge starting to form underneath the bright pelt. Ru didn’t know what to say, she had met other lions on the rogue lands, but they were more interested in other things then to comment if she was beautiful or not. Perhaps the lions here truly were different. It was another fact that she placed in her mind how she did really appreciate being allowed to stay within the lands.

Her blue eyes looked down almost shyly as she murmured a meek “thank you.” It would be almost inaudible to hear to even the best of lions’ hearing.

She was glad she hadn’t seen the war, but still could just imagine the horrors this land had gone through. She sighed, gazing back up to the jungle’s new interpretation of life. Her eyes suddenly dawned with realization, “I’m not keeping you from your job, am I?” she said in a slight panic. She didn’t want to hold the male up if he had other places to be, but now that she knew he came out during the night, maybe she would be able to catch him again before his nightly posts, or even just as daylight would begin to seep through the canopy of the trees, on his return.

Kaym'itan gave her a genuine smile, not the half one that others got from him, but a true one. " There is no need to thank me, when I have only spoken the truth. You are beautiful."

The large male turned back to look at the jungle, knowing that he should start his patrol soon, Tourk had wanted him to circle back tonight to the area he had chased the rogue from a few nights back. It would be at least a mark before he reached there, even at a full run.

" I have a few moments yet Sister, if you care to sit till the Fan Lizards wake for the night. It is worth the wait if you have not seen it before."

Toruk would have his shaggy hide, but Ewya take it, he didn't wish to leave her side just yet.

Good, she wasn’t keeping him away from his duties. She’d feel awful if she had been.

When he mentioned fan lizards, Ru blinked. “I’ve…never heard of them,” already this land was so much more than the stories that she had heard of. Just tonight she had just watch probably the most beautiful moment in her entire life, and it wasn’t even over with! She would wait, anticipation beginning to build. It was truly as if she were a little cub once more.

Kaym'itan's chuckle rumbled into the night, his delight in her cub like quality painting it warmly, " Ah, then you are in for a true delight Sister."

He reached out a paw, and gently touched what looked to be nothing more then an ordinary lizard that had come up to inspect the night scout's uneaten dinner.

Suddenly a whirring sound filled their ears and all around them, dozens of the little lizards took to the night sky. Their brilliant bioluminescent wings spinning them in lazy circles as they soared on the barely felt breeze.

Kaym'itan had seen their preformance a thousand times, so as they took to the air, he turned to watch the pale lioness beside him.
