Winter, A time when the earth was sleeping and food became scares. The air was chilly and her winter coat made her look fuzzy, a sight she was sure looked odd with her chest plate. The armor she wore with pride just as her father did. She walked along the grounds looking for anything that could be out of sorts. This was where she'd grown up playing with her sister and her father. These were in her mind, her special lands and she wasn't so keen to having any unwanted predators in them. She'd done so much in this field, Here she met her friend Sena and a Mare who was lost. Here, She'd had the worst fight with her best friend and she still wasn't sure why they had quarreled other than she was moody, a thing that was completely out of character of her.

Ostara had spent the whole day wandering, searching for something new. The scenery was a definite change to the forest that the rosy mare had grown fond of. It was just what the usdia needed except that now she was lost. 'Stara had been wandering the fields seemingly in circles and it was taking its toll on the small soquili. She finally halted and surveyed the area.
Standing still she could suddenly feel the chill in the wind. She shivered. "Just my luck," she muttered to herself. For once in a very long time, Ostara wanted to return...home.
She could feel the irony ebbing at her. Her wanderlust had finally been pacified in the depths of the green forest, along the river's edge - and now she couldn't find her way back.
Finally off in the distance she spotted a figure. A soquili! Filled with renewed energy and hope, Ostara dashed off towards the soquili. "Excuse me! Excuse me!" She called out.

She heard the sound of small hoof falls and at first assumed they belonged to a foal. Turning, however, she soon saw that the belonged to an usdia mare. She'd heard of the shorter, pygmy versions of soquli that inhabited the lands only never before had she met one. This was new to her."Hello, How may I be of service?" She lowered her head some so as to face the other mare eye to eye. This was at least a welcome distraction from her thought and the fight she'd had earlier in the day.

Ostara was relieved to find the soquili friendly and willing to help. Though she had never met any 'hostile' soqs during her travels, she had heard of them. One reason for announcing herself before just rushing over, as it was always best to err on the side of caution.
She looked up at the mare and was surprised to see her wearing a plate of armor. She couldn't help but pause and stare for a moment. "Ah yes. I seem to have lost my way. My home is in the big forest near the large river. Umm...would you know which way that would be?"

"Large river you say? Hmm... " She paused and thought for a moment. "I think so... should be this way, I'm Merashik by the way." She smiled and nodded motioning for the smaller mare to follow her as she turned and headed in the direction of the river. "I'm pretty sure the river you're talking about is in this direction. I'll show you a safe way through here, never know when a kalona might turn up in a foul mood."

Ostara took the larger mare's lead. "Merashik, that's a lovely name. My name's Ostara. Thank you so much, I would've just been wandering around here for days on end."
For a moment she felt relaxed, until that is that Merashik mentioned the foul kalonas. The rosy mare had never once met the demon-like soquili but she had heard some stories. And an angry any sort of animal was never someone you wanted to cross pathes with despite their sub-species. She also started to wonder what type of region she had wandered into.
"Oh. Are there many angry kalonas in the area?" Her voice lower than before.

"Well... truth is, I haven't seen any around but my father did warn me of them.." She offered a small smile. As she walked, her ears gave a twitch, This was at least a welcome distraction from her earlier argument. "Travel often?" She looked back at the smaller mare as she spoke. Once she'd asked her question, she looked ahead of herself once more.

"Oh ok," the relief obvious in Ostara's voice.
She returned Merashik's smile, with a warm one of her own. "Oh yes. I travel all the time until recently. But I've never been this way before. Is it nice here?"
Now feeling more comfortable, her gait relaxed and she looked about the landscape enjoying the view.

She gave a small nod. "I've always thought so... I sort of grew up here..." She didn't want to walk too fast lest she leave the smaller mare behind or cause her to have to needlessly exhaust herself in order to keep up. "My father and I use to play out in the field when I was a little filly." She couldn't help but to chuckle some. She'd had such good times with him then.

"Ahh, must be nice." Ostara nodded while thinking of her own 'home'.
"I love searching for new flora and fauna where ever I travel," She explained to Merashik. "So far I haven't found anything but then again I was moving about in circles for quite some time. The rosy mare laughed. "Perhaps you could give me an impromptu tour while we find my way back?"

She gave a small nod. "Of course, I'm glad to show you around, though I don't think we'll find much plant live this time of year.. well we will.. it'll just be sleeping the winter months." She walked a bit more before stopping and pointing out a brook mostly iced over. "You'll have to be careful when crossing that.. it's more slippery than in the spring." She moved ahead, she ice cracking with a crunch beneath her weight. Luckily the brook wasn't too big but still.. one could never be too careful.

Ostara grew a little nervous gazing at the frosted over brook. The ice cracking ever so slightly under her companion's feet gave her no comfort either. Granted she was much smaller in stature but she knew if the ice was thin enough she was going for a very cold dip. 'Stara didn't move forward with Merashik, unsure if the two planned on crossing the water or not. "Erm...Are we going to cross that now?"
Her reluctance was evident on her face. Ostara was often the clumsy usdia, and she knew her chances of falling in were high.

She looked back and gave a nod. "The ice's thin but the brook isn't very deep here so even if it breaks.. it won't send you splashing into a deep pool.. If anything the deepest part's down stream and that only comes up to my knees.. Here it's maybe just above the hooves during the winter.." Smiling a reassuring smile, she pressed further.

Ostara nodded, reassured by her companion's words. She pressed on behind the larger soquili and only hesitated once when the ice softly creaked under her hooves. She waited for something to happen but that was it. No surprise fall into frigid water. The rosy mare a sigh of relief and hurriedly crossed the brook.
She quickly caught up to Merashik's side and fell back into pace following her. Briefly she wondered how long it would take to get all the way back towards her home. Though she certainly didn't mind now that she wasn't alone traveling in circles as before.

She'd slowed her walk so that the little mare wouldn't have too much trouble keeping up with her. She knew she had a habit of walking too fast at times. Her size being bigger that was usual for a mare she needed to remind herself every now and then. She smiled as Ostara caught up to her though and nodded her acknowledgment of the mare's arrival. "See, all is well." She gave a warm hearted chuckle.
