Sinon wasn’t sure what to expect. Space travel? She had always reserved the idea to science fiction stories—until now, at least. The freckled-face senshi didn’t have even the slightest inkling of how it all started—something about a guy with a glowing ball? She didn’t want to know, now that she thought about it—but word traveled fast around the senshi community nowadays. Well, if senshi could now travel into space, why would it not be hot news?
She had been accustomed to fighting monsters and magical powers for a while now, but interstellar travel? One section of Sinon’s mind refused to wrap around the idea while the other was eagerly bouncing around wondering why they weren’t testing out this brilliant discovery.
Gloved hands tightly gripped her dark purple senshi phone. While the night breeze blew through the open window she completely sat still on her bed. Habitually Sinon wanted to fidget and bounce around on the mattress, but experience knew that the creaky racket would wake the rest of her family without a doubt. She lifted her head to stare out the window and at the speckled sky while she wondered where the phone would take her. Her sources told her that she would only be able to go to her “home” planet. Funny, for the past sixteen years or so she figured her home was earth, but apparently not.
Home. What would “home” be like? Sinon highly doubted that anyone would be at home, otherwise why would she be here instead of home? Heck, her home wasn’t even a full-fledged planet, but an asteroid that lingered somewhere on Jupiter’s orbit. A “Trojan” asteroid, it was called?
Sinon furiously shook her head. All these trivial questions bogged her mind! She flipped open the phone and closed her eyes, searching for that faint, nostalgic voice—just like they told her. She listened and listened, straining to hear that special whisper amidst the galactic clutter. After a certain amount of time—she wasn’t keeping track—she heard it, a rather bemused and somewhat sinister voice. Sinon frowned, but immediately pressed the button anyways.
A disoriented soldier of lies took a step forward to steady herself as blinking eyes noted the barren landscape of the asteroid. Although the sun was clearly yet vaguely seen over the horizon, the land was mostly cloaked in purple darkness that matched the violet and blue color of the dirt and ground. Hesitant, Sinon slowly trailed toward what she guessed to be a city. Occasionally she looked to her sides to notice the brightly colored spots of foliage that littered the area. Constant breezes brushed against her face, bringing mysterious floral scents to her nose.
All the way to the city there was only the quiet whistle of the wind to keep her company. Panicked at the sudden void of life, her pace grew quicker and quicker as she hoped for some solace. She never found any.
Sinon finally reached the edges of the city, but it was what she pictured it to be: a ghost town that was a lowly reflection of its past-self. At first the buildings were small, probably houses or general stores. The architecture was plain and shockingly reminiscent of the streets of Destiny City. After what seemed like an hour of delving into the maze the buildings grew taller and elaborate in design, taking on a style Sinon had never seen. She felt like she was walking in a steam punk-esque world, but the buildings were too fluid and graceful—they utilized many swirls and did not hesitate to cut out shapes to bring a fancier feel to the town. Oddly enough, it was a style that Sinon appreciated and even recognized in the logo designs she made in graphics class. Had she subconsciously drawn inspiration from this city?
The towering buildings began to form new shapes, ranging from needles and other wild swirls connecting one tower to the next. As she imagined the city from an aerial view she was unsurprised to find that the overall feeling conveyed was an elaborate web of lies. The people of Sinon knew their senshi well.
She came across what seemed to be a city hall. At least, the domineering atmosphere it emanated was analogous to the one back home. There was no way to be sure, though. The swirly characters on top of the entrance were nostalgic, but unreadable to Sinon. She ascended the pale purple stairs, grimacing as her boots stepped on the rune-like characters lightly printed into the stone material. A hand reached out to push open the door, but blurry images flashed in her mind.
A woman, most of her face obscured, coyly smiling as she leaned against a crystalline chair and a delicate hand framed her pale cheek. “What fools they ar---“
“—the preparations have been completed,” a monotone voice confirmed. Gloved hands adjusted thin frame glasses.
The aerial view of the city comes into sight again, but this time it is bustling with people and glowing with a pale light. The sky, instead of the clear blue of Earth, is a scratched—almost like threads—with a mix of blue and purple. Various threads appear and disappear as the citizens casually walk on the makeshift road like no one’s business.
Icy blue eyes partially were obscured by dark blue bangs, but coldly stared back at Sinon. “How stupid.”
Her hand recoiled and Sinon cradled it, protectively holding it like it had just touched scolding metal. Perhaps, she decided, it was time to go back.
