She wasn't sure what she'd done to deserve this. Honestly, she hadn't even yelled at him today. Him being her Master, Zak, the man who was SUPPOSED to teach her magic.
As for what he'd done to her?
Well, she didn't want to talk about it.

Her uncle wasn't home, thank god, and she didn't know where her cousins were. What she DID know was that she needed help; desperately. She was NOT going to stay like this. The only problem was that she had no idea how to FIX it.
So, in tears, she called the only other magical being she could think of.
Howl.
What she said probably didn't make any sense. Most of it was just her crying. But when she hung up on him abruptly, she figured he'd get the drift and come see her. He had better, she thought, huddling under a blanket on the couch and trying to pretend like it had never happened. Maybe if she hid long enough, it would just go away.

She'd tried to fix it herself; but apparently, Zak had foreseen this little tidbit. Because no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't summon even the slightest drop of magic. Nothing. Nada. Zip.
She hiccupped, and pulled the blanket tighter around herself. The tears had subsided, mostly, and were slowly being replaced by a strange mixture of self pity and anger.
She hadn't done ANYTHING to deserve this.
All the gods damn Zak. And when she got her body, and her magic back?
She was going to kill him.

Whatever was wrong with Kali sounded as bad as Sophie had when she was pregnant with Morgan. Perhaps that was what it was? Was Kali pregnant? Had Lance left her? Not that the wizard approved of the gothic boy, and if he had, that only gave Heartless Howl a better chance at getting what he wanted. ...Not that he'd take advantage of Kali when she sounded so upset. Howl certainly had not been able to understand his apprentice with her crying in his ear. "Kali, calm do--" he started, and was abruptly hung up on.

He quickly muttered a divining spell while putting on his jacket, and saying goodbyes to his father and Devin; who was quite happily drawing a poorly rendered version of what Howl assumed must be Calcifer onto the walls, he headed in the direction his spell pointed him. He knocked at the door he found himself at; he knew he was quite a ways from home, his sore legs told him that.

But where was he? "Kali?" he called. "I'm here."

The person, if it could be called a person, that came to the door was certainly not Kali. This was more like some sort of blanket monster. A three foot something, sniffling blanket monster. Which couldn't be Kali. Kali was much taller.
The blanket monster grabbed Howl by the collar and pulled him inside before slamming the door shut behind him, sniffling again. It still hadn't spoken.

And when it did, it spoke with Kali's voice. Sort of. It was a bit higher pitched than Kali's voice. Perhaps it had eaten her.

"H-hello Howl." She hiccupped; she still hadn't gotten rid of those. They always happened when she cried. She hated them...
"I-I need your help." She was reluctant, so reluctant, to let the blanket fall down around her shoulders. But, she needed Howl to see what was wrong; so, she let it pool, and revealed what was so very, very wrong with her.

She was a child.
She had shrunk; her eyes were bigger, her hair was shorter - It was as if somebody had rewound the hands of time and...well, that's probably a very accurate description of what had happened. Her busty, curvy form was missing, replaced by the ramrod straight and string bean thin one that she had had all through her childhood. Her knees were even scraped for effect, though Howl couldn't possibly see that throughh the oversized jeans she wore. She appeared to be swimming in her clothing; perhaps because she hadn't bothered to change out of the clothes she'd been wearing before. There were dark circles around her eyes, ones she had sworn she had grown out of, and her freckles weren't covered by their usual make up. They stood out, darker than ever, on her cheeks.

She looked horrible. The whole thing was horrible. Thinking about it made her little lip tremble, and tears welled up again.

"Zak cursed me!" She wailed, sputtering back into a crying mess. "Oh, Howl, you have to help me!"

A mass of blankets had pulled Howl inside; though the wizard was seemingly confused. Was someone here to visit? A very upset someone, by the sound of the sniffling coming from the blankets. It certainly couldn't be Kali--had someone died to cause them both to grieve so much? "What's wrong?" he asked. "Where's Kali?"

His eyes widened when Kali let the blanket fall. He stared. His first thought was that Darcy had heard about his friend and decided to attack her too; she was that cruel. He put an arm around her in a half hug. He knew exactly how this felt. "I'm afraid I don't know how to help you," said the wizard.

"If I did, I would have used it a long time ago... we can try, still. Did you try that spell where you change your height?" He studied her, frowning. He was clearly concerned about his friend. "Call Lance, maybe?" He didn't know how the gothic boy could help; but the minature wizard certainly didn't like seeing his favorite apprentice in this state.

"I'll try, Kali. But after, go for icecream with me? To cheer you up."

Her cheeks flushed a deep shade of crimson when the topic of using her magic rose, and she diverted her eyes from Howl's gaze.
"I-I can't. I can't use my magic at all. I don't know what he did, but every time I try, it's like there's nothing there..." Another hiccup."And I am NOT calling Lance. I don't want him to see me like this!" The very idea was preposterous. Besides. She knew he was very capable, in many areas, but magic? It really wasn't one of them.

"Howl, if you can get me out of this, I'll do anything you want." No hiccup. Were they gone? "W-what if you tried to use that spell? On me?" Was it just her magic that was negated? Or all magic directed at her? Oh, she was going to kick Zak in the balls so hard his EYES popped out!
Another hiccup. God damn, they weren't gone.

Viktor wasn't home.

This was the first thing that entered Lance's mind when he saw that the car wasn't in the driveway to the large house. Hopefully, Kali WOULD be home, even in the absence of her uncle - otherwise, going into the mansion would be most disappointing.
As the boy made his way to the front door, he began wondering if it was wrong to just go in without knocking - that was rude, yes? But then again, he HAD climbed into Kali's window and screwed her while her uncle had still been home...

So that was probably higher on the rudeness scale.
'So, this would probably get me in less trouble.' With that thought in mind, Lance pushed the door open and peeked inside - what was that he heard? Hiccuping? Crying? It sounded like a kid - a girl, to be exact. Was Katia here? Was that who was crying? Frowning, the Gothic boy followed the sound, blinking as he heard another voice, this one being a boy's. It didn't sound like Dimitri either, though the young man swore that he could recognize it.
And he did, in fact, recognize the boy upon entering the room that the voices were coming from. "Howl?" Lance raised an eyebrow at the head of blond hair that he spotted and frowned. "What're you doing h-" He stopped upon seeing a redheaded girl, noting that she suspiciously looked like Kali.

A lot like Kali. Oh s**t. "...am I on crack?"

"Zak is SUCH a jerk. This isn't fair. I didn't even do anything to him! You know what, I think I read somewhere that if you kill a mage, all of their enchantments die with them. Can't we just go, I dunno, stab him in the eye?" She was seething, despite her tears, and she wanted Zak to pay. If she couldn't find a way to break this spell, her life was ruined!! She wouldn't be able to do anything anymore, she'd have to go through puberty again, she wouldn't be magic, and worst of all, she'd have to stop dating Lance! If she was stuck in some seven year old body, no matter HOW old her mind was, Lance would still be the creeper of the situation.

As if summoned by her thoughts of him, Lance stepped in the room. Her eyes widened in horror and she bolted behind Howl, but not before Lance got a good look at her. She pulled the blanket around her again, gripping Howl's shoulders and keeping him firmly between her and her boyfriend.

"K-kali isn't here!" She squeaked. "And she won't be back soon. G-go away!" She didn't want him here. Not while she was like this. He couldn't help, and it was embarassing. What if he dumped her for this? She wasn't usually one to worry needlessly over boys and her relationships with them, but she really liked Lance. A lot. She didn't want him getting all creeped out and dumping her because he thought she was somehow actually a little kid.

Howl had an idea. An idea that might work; if Kali believed in the power of fairytales and kisses. "Maybe he put a curse on you like the fairytales," he said. "Maybe... Maybe someone has to kiss you." He looked over at Lance. "Kali's sick today," he said. "I came over to make her younger cousin feel better. She's really worried. I don't think it'd be a very good idea for you to go see her. If you want, you can help me babysit."

Liar though he was, Howl wasn't very good at it. "I thought maybe if I--" he turned around to face Kali, moving closer to her and placing a expert kiss onto her cheek, "kissed her, she would feel better." He leaned closer to Kali's ear.

"Just go with it. I'll find a way to turn you back."

Well, Howl had stuck up for her, and had she been in a better mood, she probably would have noticed that their lies didn't match at all. She had said she wasn't home. Howl had said she was sick. Lance wasn't stupid, nor was he hysterical, and therefore he probably noticed. However, Kali was quite absorbed in her own problems, and didn't.

"H-howl, kisses don't work if they're on the cheek." She whispered, flushing as he whispered in her ear. "Nobody in fairytales gets kissed on the cheek." Not that she had a deep dark desire to kiss Howl. He was still a child, like a younger brother, to her. She was just pointing out a fact.

Oh, she hoped Lance would just LEAVE. She'd call him when she was back to normal. But now, she supposed he might get the hint if she ignored him completely.

For a good few moments, Lance stood there and stared in shock at the small, redheaded girl who was hiding behind Howl. Was he seeing things? Or had he just gone crazy? The latter was entirely possible - maybe Charlie had finally done his sanity in. It would make sense, really. One could only keep his mind around the redheaded impling for so long...

The Gothic boy eventually snapped out of his thoughts however and frowned at both the girl's and Howl's protests - now, Lance was many things, but stupid wasn't one of them. Lance knew that Kali probably had more than one cousin, but was quite certain that Katia was the only one that she saw on a regular basis. As well, his girlfriend hadn't mentioned anything about having family come to visit...
Which meant that Howl was a liar, and a shitty one at that. The boy's eyebrow seemed to twitch as the blond kid kissed Kali's cheek, and resisted the urge he had to punt Howl into a wall, as tempting at it was.

"You do realize that I know what Katia looks like, right?" He rolled his eyes at Howl's lie and moved closer, pushing the blond boy out of his way, though not in a way that would hurt the kid. He was more concerned with what the hell happened to his girlfriend at this current point in time. "Really kid, you're bad at this. Kali...Kali, what's going on?" As far as he was concerned, Howl could currently bite him. He wanted to know what the ******** had turned his girlfriend into a KID.

Oh, balls. He wasn't buying it.
Kali tried to keep a hold on Howl as Lance pushed him out of the way, fumbling when her small hands couldn't manage it, and hiding her face from Lance in the blanket that she wore. Her little lip wobbled and she sniffled, moving from the warm, calloused hands that she really did want to hold her right now.

"N-nothing! I'm n-not...Kali's not..." A hiccup tore through the lie she was trying to hold together, rather clumsily, and it all just went to hell from there. She dropped down onto the floor and buried her face into her knees, bawling like a seven year old. And why shouldn't she?! She was STUCK like this! She was going to die as a seven year old girl!

Howl crossed his arms, frowning at Lance. "I'm sorry Kali, I tried..." he said. "You didn't have to push me, you know," he said. "I'm only trying to help. Why'd you have to barge in anyhow? You can't turn her back. She's my apprentice."

He glared at Lance as if to say 'Now look what you've done!'; which was really quite accurate, though Howl really meant 'I was handling it just fine and you had to come in and ruin everything!'. He bent down to Kali's level and put an arm around her shoulders. "Hey," he said. "I know a spell... in theory that could turn you back. I was going to try it on Sophie and I at Christmas. But you need it more than I do. Would you like me to try?"

He paused, and moved to hug her. "Don't cry, please, Kali?"

Lance, of course, felt bad as soon as Kali began crying again. He still didn't really understand what had happened here. Clearly, it had been something to do with magic - but had Kali done this to herself? He knew that she messed up spells sometimes, but he couldn't imagine her screwing up something quite this badly! "H-Hey, it's alright..." Despite how small she currently was - and how much this would probably make him feel like a creeper -, Lance moved to hug his 'young' girlfriend, only to find himself intercepted by the irritating blond kid.

He was seriously starting to get on his nerves.

"Hey, brat, I don't give a rat's hairy a** if she's your apprentice - she's MY girlfriend!" The black-haired boy's green eyes flashed threatening at the young boy. "If you can help her, that's great - but that little attitude that you're sporting? Yeah, lose it." He was not in the mood to deal with some snot-nosed brat who had an ego because he could do a few magic tricks. Maybe he couldn't change Kali back, but that didn't mean that he had any less right to be here than Howl did - if anything, he had more for the simple face that he was probably far closer to Kali than this brat was.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 23, 2010 8:07 am

Kali sniffled beneath her blankets, peeking up through a very small hole to look up at Lance.

"I-it's not okay! It's not alright! Z-Zak cursed me, took my magic away, and I c-can't tu-urn ba-ack!" She wiped at her eyes, which felt as if they were on fire, and looked over at Howl. Honestly, she appreciated his help, but insulting Lance for being worried really wasn't going to help. True, she hadn't wanted her boyfriend to be there, but...seeing him so worried, and not high tailing it in the other direction, was kind of comforting. She sniffled and wiped her face again.

"I-it's alright, Howl...P-please don't fi-" She stopped mid request as she registered what Howl had said.
A spell. Turn her back. Theory. Who gave a s**t if it was theory; theory was one step away from an actual result!

She threw back her blanket 'shield' and grabbed Howl by the shoulders, eyes wide.
"Really?! A spell?! You mean it?!" The hope was obvious in her voice, and if it didn't work, she would probably die a little bit on the inside.

Howl stuck his tongue out at Lance rebelliously. "What attitude? You seem to have the same problem." He then turned his attention to Kali, and gave his friend a reassuring smile. "Of course," he said. "I dunno how Lance'll feel about you being an experiment, though," he looked at the gothic boy, and seemed almost apologetic.

He rolled up his sleeves, and focused on his apprentice. He muttered a word and a clap of thunder sounded in the distance. He wavered for a moment, almost stumbling as he felt the energy exit his body. It would have been draining even for an adult wizard--but one Howl's size--

His vision was blurry for a brief moment, and he rubbed at his eyes.
