Amalahle's confidence was renewed since encountering the deity and she had finally decided to do something more than just wander around being anti-social and grumpy. She would not stay here much longer, no, but before she left she wanted to prove that she was a capable fighter. Her loss to Chaka was still fresh in her mind but she could rationalize. He was large and lucky- and though she did not acknowledge it, her next fight was picked with someone of the same status as her, someone who could not be more practiced in fighting because she was a soldier. A more apparently equal match. She had found Miali, who she had seen on hunting trips previously and knew to be a relative of Chaka, and challenged her. She gave no specific reason but she hadn't needed to, this was part of what some firekin did for fun.

She stood across from Miali, waiting.

Mia hadn't been having the best day ever to begin with. Earlier on, she'd decided to solo hunt a hare to work off some steam, stretch her muscles a little. What should've been an easy track and kill turned into a ridiculous game of cat and mouse, and Mia did not appreciate that the rodent had turned into the cat and the feline had turned into the mouse. Somehow, the simple little creature had kept her guessing right until the end. Of course, Mia hadn't given up. She'd chased it and tracked it and made leaps at it for what had felt like an eternity until she'd finally brought the darned thing down. And to top it off, the meat had been stringy and wholly unsatisfying.

And now she was being challenged. She didn't even like being challenged, she liked the hunt. She liked stalking her prey. The bold face-to-face style of duel didn't appeal to her. She snarled across the sand at Amalahle, bracing for what was to come.

Move: Hit

Despite her unusually positive attitude, Amalahle knew she had to take this seriously or she was in for another loss and she was determined not to let that happen again. Nevermind that she had been determined to show up that stupid orange lion, this was different. Her motivation was stronger. She grinned when Miali snarled at her, tensing, ready to start.

"Ready or not," she said, deciding that fair warning seemed to be part of actually duelling properly. She barely finished when she made her move, running and then pouncing at Miali, intent on knocking her over.

Move: Hit

Mia reared back on her hind legs, hoping to meet her challenger in the air. She didn't have much experience at this, and wasn't aware that jumping back like this would knock her off balance even that much easier. Amalahle came crashing down on her, their bodies slamming into the ground with a loud thunk that Mia had previously reserved in her mind for downed prey. They idea that she herself was becoming the prey made an uneasy feeling ooze through her, starting from the site of impact and draining down through her spine. She glared her eyes, tucked her head in to cover her exposed neck and kicked out her hind legs hard, hoping to send the other lioness off of her, and hoping to regain a little ground.

Move: Hit!

Amalahle had precious little time relish in her success in knocking over her opponent. The surprise change in position brought the lionesses to the ground in an unexpected stance and before Amalahle could steady herself and strike out again, Miali had reacted. A sharp blow to the middle and she was on the sand- but now she was ready to react. She pushed herself up to her feet and, having not been pushed out of striking distance, she reached out with her claws unsheathed- aiming for whatever part of Miali happened to be nearest.

Move 2: Bide

After the sharp shove, Miali rolled back to her stomach quickly and pushed off the ground. She whipped around to face her opponent, but was too slow. She took a paw full of claws to the cheek, throwing off her balance and knocking her back a few steps. She stumbled, but regained her footing as she did, growling under her breath. Her jaw was sore where she'd been struck, but it was nothing she couldn't shake off for a while. Bleeding scratch lines on her face, she heaved in a breath to recover her stamina and regroup her attack. This wasn't going as she would've hoped.

Move: Miss

Amalahle did not want to waste any time hesitating, the delay in a reaction from Miali was an additional opportunity to strike and she was not about to miss the chance for that kind of advantage. As Miali inhaled, Amalahle shifted her weight and sprang forward in an attempt to knock Miali over again- this time hoping the close range would mean she could get a better hold and so she would not be shoved off so easily. She could win this.

Move 3: Bide

She saw Amalahle coming from the side of her vision and quickly retaliated. She had yet to regain enough breath for a counter, but instead she managed to shift. She pivoted on her hind legs at an angle, moving just enough away from her challgener's line of flight that she was missed entirely. The pivot, though, didn't do her much good aside from evading. She dug her front paws into the sand and braced. She glared at Amalahle, still bitter about the scrape to her face and her now tarnished beauty. Trying to save face, however, she laughed obnoxiously. "You'll have to do better than that, Amalahle." Her teeth were bared, the words seething through them.

Move: Bide

Amalahle's legs buckled when they hit the empty sand and her whipped around to keep her eyes on Miali-- but Miali was not attacking, she was resorting to taunting. The laugh made Amalahle's blood boil but she couldn't react just yet. Her opponent was taunting but she was ready for an attack, she needed to move.

"Act!" she demanded, backing up a couple steps so they had room to move, circling around Miali.

Move 4: Miss

Mia snarled and followed her circling foe with her eyes. She had been biding her time by taunting, yes, because she hadn't been fully prepared for the attack. Her inexperience and loss of confidence from how the duel had played out so far had caused her to second guess herself and hold her up. Now, however, she was ready. She was angry, stinging, and tiring of this game. She intended to finish this and go home to clean her wounds. She judged for distance and sprang, claws extended and ready to hook into whatever they could grasp.

Move: Hit

Ready for action, Miali's lunge was not unexpected and Amalahle reacted with surprising speed. She side-stepped out of the lioness' path and twisted herself around in one swift motion and next second she was reared up to strike Miali and give her a good shove before she could make a stable landing and make another attempt at an attack. She put as much effort as she could muster into it, feeling that this wouldn't last long if she could pull it off now.

Move 5: Bide

Mia hit the ground with another solid thud and winced, having hit the same spot for a second time and disliking the sound just as much as she had previously. No, this was not playing out in her favor. She didn't even have time to think about picking herself back up before she was struck once more. She growled out and gritted her teeth, having definitely felt that one to her core. She turned her head back at Amalahle and groaned once more, pushing off the sands with obvious effort.

Total: 12 - 10, Amalahle wins.

Feeling triumphant, Amalahle stood with her head held hide, her teeth bared and her tail swaying, watching as Miali picked herself up and groaned. That didn't sound like she was going to keep going, victory was hers- but her opponent had to say it.

"Are you done?" she asked, tensing threateningly but smiling smugly.

"Yes," she hissed out, baring her teeth but staying lower to the ground and with her tail wrapped around her protectively. She wasn't going to keep going. She was sore where she'd been battered and stinging where she'd been scratched, but the burn of losing was much worse. She flattened her ears to her skull and slunk away without another word, off to clean herself up and perhaps find her brother for a few lessons. Fighting with lions was definitely harder than stalking prey. She'd been comfortable in the past with her lack of fighting experience but now it was clearly unacceptable. She wouldn't be beaten this badly again.

Next time, if she didn't win, she'd at least lose with more grace than she had this time.
