It's the near future. A viral outbreak decimates the world's population. Your home, your workplace, your friends and family; gone. Los Angeles is one of the many cities left devastated. Infrastructure breaks down. Chaos reigns. This is the setting of the colony.
The colony is a controlled experiment to see if strangers can rebuild society in the wake of a global catastrophe. The backgrounds and expertise of these volunteers represent a cross-section of modern society. For ten weeks, they will be isolated with no electricity from the grid, no running water, and no communication with the outside world. All they will have to work with is their skills, the tools and supplies an abandoned factory and whatever they can scavenge.
-
This is a roleplay based off of one of my favorite TV series called "The Colony". If you watch the link above you will get a better idea of what will be taking place in the roleplay. I intend to keep it almost exactly the same way the show is set up (of course, we will have our own twists added in!)

I'm usually a really horrible person who puts her rules in paragraph form. Fortunately, I'm lazy most of the time when it comes to rules so I won't waste too much of your time. =)
I really don't enjoy anime. If you're in this guild, then you already know that it's kind of hated, just a touch. So please, spare my eyes the use of anime for your character.
No stealing, no being a complete tool and decided to brutally slaughter everyone else in the roleplay for no reason. No cursing every other word - you'll make yourself sound stupid, really. It does. *nods*. No sex, either. Time skip that stuff and keep it off Gaia.
Make your posts pretty. Follow my skeleton to the letter for your profiles. Actually, they're hardly profiles. I actually hate having to read through profiles. Srry. I'm lazy. I know, I know. *hangs head in shame*. Just follow the skeleton, 'kay? He's dancing out the door so you'd better run after him fast!
Have a specific posting color for your characters speech and thoughts. Don't copy someone else's color. I already wear glasses, so don't blind me with neon yellow or something like that. Please use font sizes 10 or 11. They just look so much better.
There's no paragraph size or any posting regulations like that. Just give us something to work with. I'm sure we'd all prefer two paragraphs of actual content to ten posts of absolute crud.
All of the characters in this roleplay are to be 25 or older. I know that's a bit of a higher age bracket (hell, 4 years older than me and sometimes I feel ancient on Gaia!)
I totally don't care what you label the PM you send to me for your character that you want. Anything you want, once I open it, I'll know what it's for anyway. blaugh
Hmm, I think that covers it. I'll add more and bold it if I need to put anything else here!

Here is the map of the area. The dark square outline is the abandoned warehouse that the colonists are now living in. To the right of that is the front yard, which is surrounded with a large fence.
Both the fence and the warehouse are in need of repair. They only have about a week of food and only a short supply of clean drinking water.

The Viral Outbreak On December 1, 2010 at precisely 11:46 a.m. an experiment at the Pearadyne Labs was stolen by a small protest organization. Pearadyne had been spending years trying to develop a vaccination that would be effective against every strain of the influenza virus. As a result of their testing, scientists at Pearadyne ended up creating what they called "T-19" (standing for Test 19). T-19 was a strain of influenza on its own. Immediately, T-19 was isolated and kept locked away.
Workers at Pearadyne were told to keep T-19 a secret. In mice, T-19 caused incredibly high fever, rapid heart rate, shallow breathing, rash and after 48 hours; death. That wasn't the only thing T-19 caused. Anywhere between 2 and 24 hours after death, the mice subjected to the T-19 virus "came back to life". Only they weren't really "alive" - they were raging, and relying on pure instinct. Ravaging and eating the other mice while they were still alive.
The uninfected mice who had been bitten by the infected mice would die in the same manner. High fever, rapid heart rate, shallow breathing, rash... death. They too would "come back to life".
The protesting organization had no idea what they had their hands on when they stole the T-19 virus. They released it into the world and became the first "infected" humans, exhibiting the exact same symptoms as the mice.
It did not take long before the entire world was ravaged by T-19. Not only was it spread by contact and scratches/bites. It is also airborne.
Anyone exposed to an outside individual not from the "colony" must be kept in a 12 hour quarantine. Then they are examined for the "danger symptoms". If they do not display any symptoms, it is safe to assume that they were not infected. Danger Symptoms - Fever higher than 100 F - Rash on abdomen and limbs - Rapid heart rate. - Shallow breathing.

Open This roleplay is now open. The five characters that we have now will be the "original group" so to speak. Others are more than welcome to join in at any time. Those characters will just end up "meeting up" or "running into" the original group.
