(( This is a PRP between Parnasabari, Avalokiteshvara, Shrivatsa, Phala, and Padmaraja))

User Image

Parnasabari stared at the three baskets before her in a strained nervousness. She hadn't liked the look of the baskets when she first laid eyes on them and she didn't like them any better now. They seemed unlucky, ill-fated, foreboding. She didn't trust the ones that didn't look like her and trusted the one that did only a little more. Part of her had hoped the foals would lie stillborn and never emerge... but that hope was about to be shattered.

She watched as the baskets shivered and rocked. She had seen this before, seen the last thrashing of the inhabitants of a basket before their triumphant emergence. In all those other cases it was meant to be a joyous occasion. Today Bari felt no joy. She felt only a sick apprehension. What sort of creatures were in the baskets? Would they be bloodthirsty and out for murder like their father?

She prayed to the many-armed deity of their herd. Please, let them be not like their father. Please let them be beautiful, normal foals. Please let them all be girls. Please.... The alpha of the herd, Avalokiteshvara, was due to arrive. Where was she? Bari didn't know what she would do if she had to endure this moment of tension alone....

Cramped, confined, suffocated. What had once been a snug artificial womb was now much to small for the growing colt. No matter how he moved, shifted, there was no comfort to be found within the woven confines of the basket, not anymore. He thrashed, kicking out with his feet against the knotted reeds, and they bent beneath his hooves, cracking and splintering with each impatient thrust. He would be free soon, very soon.

Another sharp kick sent his foot clean through the side of his protective hold, light glittering around the hole and dazzling his eyes. It was bright, and he'd never been been subject to that before. It made him pause, blinking against the diffused glare, but only for a moment before another strong kick punched a matching hole beside the first. It felt so good to stretch his legs out! Two more kicks and a good amount of struggling reduced his wicker prison to knotted reeds and splinters. Leaving the Rose and ebony colt laying amongst the rubble. Yellow, Split pupil eyes squinting up against the light towards the shadow that hoovered above him and his still trapped siblings. He knew they were there, close, he could feel them. And the shadow had to be.. Mother?

A shake of his head fluffed the bone white silk of his male, dainty horns peeking amongst the paleness.

The basket that a foal was nestled in to develop in was meant to be relatively comfortable for the foal. This was not always the case. For the colt it had been vastly uncomfortable. At first it had been fine but as he developed it seemed places on his own body that were once dull had become quite sharp. If he shifted too much he had found that the points would scrape over his skin or else jab him uncomfortably. It was because of those cursed points and the closed in space that he had been stuck in one position for an immeasurably period of time.

He didn't know why but, without even knowing what it was, he wanted out. Finding it more comfortable to move his forelegs he began to paw at the edges of his container. Feeling the wicker give in to his movements he began to paw with more energy until it was as though he were trapped in the midst of a battle.

The moment he broke through he recoiled as light flooded the basket. His eyes clamped shut though that did not seem to get rid of the bodiless intruder. He opened his eyes again, just a fraction, before wiggling his head towards the opening he had mad in the side. There were strange smiles outside where the light was he wanted to smell more of them.

As his blue tinted muzzle poked out of the opening he discovered two very important things. The first was that his senses were suddenly in hyper drive but in a very good way. The second was that the light was no longer invading. If it wasn't so uncomfortable he would take up a permanent residence just as he was. He would, unfortunately, have to move at some point, but for the moment he felt fine right where he was.

Like her brothers, the one filly of the three was also suddenly awake and moving. She shifted and turned but the movement didn't satisfy. She was restless. Further shifting rattled her basket more but she still couldn't get comfortable. Her small nostrils flared and took in the stuffy air of the basket... and suddenly it was a place she no longer wanted to be.

The basket had always been an enclosed haven but now it was a confining prison. The filly kicked but all that seemed to do was jerk the basket over the ground. She tried pushing with her head against the side of the basket but that did even less. It was only when she pushed upward that she was able to make progress.

It was strange, how easy it was to push the lid off the basket. It fell away so easily and left the filly blinded in the first light of day she had ever known. Her green eyes widened then squinted shut. For the moment that was all she could do.

Bari flinched with every sharp sound made by the inhabitants of the baskets as they struggled to free themselves. It was becoming quickly obvious that Vara wouldn't arrive in time for their emergence and Bari froze a little at the thought. The black and pink basket looked like the foal would emerge first. She hoped with all her might that a dainty little filly would emerge... a beautiful little girl that would help her put everything behind her and not remind her of anything like Hisoka and-

A colt came out. A colt with eyes like a snake and horns like a kalona. Bari would have whimpered if she had been able to find her voice. The second... she couldn't tell the gender just yet but she could see blue lips. Lips that looked like someone had drowned the owner of them. The final basket held the filly that she had hoped for, but that hope was thrown in Bari's face. It was a filly, yes... but she was covered in blood. Though rationally Bari realized that the filly couldn't possibly be covered in blood, blood was all she saw in the markings.

Bari's eyes widened and she took shallow quick breaths. She was afraid... she was so afraid of the foals, her foals that were just now stepping into the sunlight.

As the seconds ticked by the ebony and rose colt found the glare of the day faded, became more bearable, and he cautiously opened split pupil eyes, blinking once before looking up at the still form of of grown mare, his mother? It had to be, but she wasn't moving. The baskets beside him however were, and it was them that pulled the dark foal's attention. He watched as thy moved, twitched, until the one beside him with it's pinks and whites cracked open with the force of one pink hoof before it disappeared back within the confines, replaced by the blue noes of one of his siblings.

The Mare standing above them gave him nothing to go on, the sibling beside him gave him curiosity and eagerness. He went to the baskets, rolling to get his legs beneath him so he could try to stand. Instinct bringing him up on unsteady legs before balance toppled him over. He had landed beside the other baskets though, and that blue nose was met with his own pink one, brushing gently before his sister forced the lid of her own basket. It made him smile, and stretching his neck he was able to press his nose to her cheek fondly.

Quick breathing drew his gaze back up to his silent mother, and again the colt attempted to stand. Legs rattling threateningly beneath him before stilling to a manageable wobble. Not walking, not yet, but up, and looking up at the mare with expectant, adoring eyes.
PostPosted: Fri Dec 10, 2010 6:45 pm

At the foreign touch the colt's ears flicked backwards with a start then swiveled forward again. It was only a moment before the other nose had vanished but by some unusual instinct he knew the scent to belong to family. If they were out there then really shouldn't he be?

It was that thought that drove him to action. He pulled his had back inside and let the light flood the basket. He tried not to let it bother him while he focused on kicking at the sides with all four legs. He could feel the points on one of his hind legs scraping over skin but he ignored this sensation. Before too long he had all but torn the basket in half in order to make a hole large enough for him to wiggle through. The wicker fragments bit at his skin as he moved over them but it was okay. His eyes, having adjusted to the light during his escape, were now drinking in new and wonderful things.

Next to him he could see two others his size, he knew them instantly to be his siblings. To the other side he could see more shredded wicker, it seemed he had not been the only one with some difficulty getting out. Then, in front of them...he grinned revealing long white fangs. That was his mother! He did his best to roll off his side and onto his feet. In all his eagerness he tangled his feet and landed right back on his side where he had started with a fresh puncture wound turning crimson with blood.

The filly's mouth dropped open in her first smile. The world had just been a bright blur at first but now it sharpened into the images of soquili she knew to be her family. There were two colts, her brothers. There was a large pair of blue eyes looking down that she knew to belong to her mother. Family. She had her family. The desire to meet this family is what propelled her out of her basket.

With one last heave she tipped over her basket and herself along with it. Her legs kicked at the air for a moment before she toppled over onto her side. She sprawled on the ground, looking in helpless amusement at the two other foals. Her hooves scrabbled at the ground but for now her legs failed to hold her. She smiled as she lay there, her fluffy felinoid ears twitching. She blinked as she noticed her white brother. Did he hurt himself? Even as young as she was, her brain told her that the soft scent of blood wafting from him was not a good thing to smell.

Bari noticed the blood too. Fresh blood to add to the markings of dried blood on the filly. She took an involuntary step back. She couldn't deal with blood right now. She didn't know what to do for a hurt foal. She didn't know if she even wanted to try. When she saw the small patch of blood on her own foal she remembered the foal that had been in that pit and dying the night that she had found Hisoka there. She shut her eyes and began to shake. Her coping mechanisms were failing fast. That was when she heard the voice, one so familiar and beloved that she snapped her eyes back open so she could turn to find it.

"Grandmother!" she gasped with pure relief. There was Vara, the alpha to the herd. Bari's eyes filled with relieved tears. She wasn't alone anymore. She didn't have to deal with it alone.

Avalokiteshvara had hoped to get there in time to see the baskets open. Though she was a moment too late for that she was just in time to prevent poor Bari from having a panic attack, it looked like. Vara looked over the foals briefly before giving their mother a warm smile. "What beautiful children you have, my granddaughter. I'm so proud of you." Hopefully she could help make the experience a little more positive for all of them....

The stumble of his sister was enough to pull a surprised giggle from the dark colt, one unsteady leg raising to stamp the ground in amusement. A mistake, for the shock of it sent him tumbling over as well, right into his brother's side. Was that..? A strange smell made him blink, searching the pale line of the other colts hip into the wash of bright crimson was found. What was that? Young as he was, he didn't know what it was, but he knew it wasn't good. He sniffed it more closely, pink nose actually touching the tacky wetness to come away red, making him sniff sharply before sneezing. Tongue flicking up to taste the lowest hints of it. It tasted weird, and the poor thing pulled a sour face.

It only distracted him a moment though, and yellow eyes turned back to their mother. She'd retreated a step, staring down at them with frightened eyes. He didn't understand the expression, but he didn't have to know it wasn't one he ever wanted directed at him or his siblings. Specifically not from family. It was enough to make his ears wilt back to press against the delicate curves of his horns. Chin falling to rest on his brother's back. Something didn't feel right.

The approach of another tall mare pulled his gaze, but he didn't bother moving. At her words though, the kind crescendo of her voice, his ears perked back up. What a pretty sound.

For the white colt neither the scent nor the feel was strange. What was strange was having someone else nosing around the wound. While it did not hurt in anyway it still wiped the smile off his face. His brother's distraction became his own before long. He followed his eyes to their mother and the look on her face had certainly warranted his brother's reaction. He himself wanted to slink away somewhere. If not for his brother using him as a rest it was all together likely that he would have wiggled back into his basket.

Bright green eyes wandered towards his sister to see how she fared. He was unable to get a good look before his ears shot up suddenly alert. Someone else was here? His head tilted slowly off to one side as he looked at her. Something about her felt very warm, warmer than what he was feeling from his mother.

He could feel his insides twisting uneasily. Something about that thought was unsettling for the young colt but he didn't know why. Instinct was telling him one thing but for whatever reason his instincts didn't seem to be matching what was going on at all.

The filly was now utterly confused. One of her brothers was hurt... the other one was... maybe helping him? She blinked at the two of them but then refocused on the two mares watching them. She had thought she felt a connection to the mostly white one with the green mane... but now she wasn't sure. Maybe the golden one with the soft voice was her mother instead? She looked between the two of them in perplexity and then transferred that look back to her brothers. What was going on?

Somewhere in the midst of those thoughts she had stood back up again. She hadn't even noticed the instinctive action and only now realized that she was up. This brought a smile to her face all over again and she took her first few wobbling steps.

Vara had always known this was going to be an exceedingly difficult time for Bari and it looked like she was correct. The poor thing was utterly overwhelmed. Vara felt a little stab of guilt that she hadn't been there sooner. Bari almost just needed constant companionship. Vara wondered if she could find one of the herd members to help look after her... or maybe a familiar would be a better bet.

Throughout these thoughts, her warm smile never faltered. "Have you thought about what to name them yet?" she asked Bari while watching the foals. "Look at that beautiful colt with Scythe's horns," she looked at the black and pink foal. "He looks like a little lotus prince." She blinked as she noticed the white colt's injury. "Now what happened here?" She walked over to the white colt and peered down at him concernedly. "Are you all right, little one?"

Bari watched her grandmother step over toward the children. "Watch out!" she squeaked with alarm. "They might be..." she trailed off uncertainly. She didn't know what she meant to finish that sentence with. They might be what? Dangerous like their father? Even in her stressed state she was able to recognize that the idea of foals being dangerous was a far-fetched one.

The dark colt shifted his chin, rubbing back and forth along his brother's spine. Pink tongue flicking out to lap at the blood on his nose. Not that he liked the taste, he most certainly did not, but the texture bothered him, and he wanted clean again. Using his sibling as a napkin was completely unacceptable.

All the while he'd kept slitted eyes turned up towards the two mares, ears twitching forward occasionally as the late comer spoke, but always folding back to rest tightly against his mane. As attention was shifted primarily to him he had to resist the sudden urge to squirm. He did perk up a little as the tan mare commented on his horns, mentioning another name. Another relative? Come to think of it, this mare was his.. great grandmother? He wasn't positive, but she was something to him.

Of course as she edged closer to investigate his brother's injury his mother called out a warning. He didn't fully understand it. What did she need to watch out for? Him, them? It made his stomach turn, drawing from him a gentle whimper.

He found the rubbing motion from his brother soothing and it eased his nerves at least temporarily. He hadn't a clue in the world what was going on and if not for his brother by his side it was likely that he would have been swallowed in confusion. He tucked his head down close to his chest and his brother all the while watching the females.

His sister had gotten on her feet, he wanted to get up as well but the last time he had tried that it had stirred up a reaction that was far from pleasant. He stayed put for the time being just watching the mare with the streaked mare as she looked closely at his brother's head. Curious he craned his head to try and see what she was talking about. He barely understood her words and catching a glimpse of the pink things growing from his brother's skull hadn't clarified anything.

When their great-grandmother approached the white colt didn't take much notice other than to turn his gaze away from his brother and lower his head slightly. Up until the moment that there mother cried out he had been fine with the approach. At the panic he heard in her voice, however, he instantly ducked his head his ears flicking back against his skull. His eyes were wide as he stared at the mares nervously. The uneasy sound his brother made had done nothing to make him feel better.

He couldn't understand what was going on, all he knew was that there seemed to be something wrong...with them.

The filly was just as confused and unsettled as her brothers. She liked the warm golden mare with the nice voice. She liked the white nervous mare with the frightened voice too... but maybe the white mare didn't like her? Her eyes blinked wide and confused. She stood on her wobbly legs and looked between her siblings and the two mares. She didn't understand a thing that was going on and for the moment did nothing.

Vara could sense the tension in the air between Bari and the foals. That was no good. She wished that she had brought along someone else, maybe Bari's parents. Someone needed to look after the foals but someone also needed to look after Bari. She couldn't comfort everyone at once, no matter how full of compassion she was.

She stepped closer to the two colts and smiled apologetically down at the injured one. "Little one, it looks like you've had a bit of a scrape. I will get a unicorn to heal it for you as soon as I can. Until then, don't worry. I won't let it happen to you again." She leaned down to nuzzle him, turning slightly at the same time to cast a glance over to her nervous granddaughter. "Look at how gentle and beautiful they are, Bari. Would you come here to greet your children?"

Bari had to admit that her grandmother's presence was soothing. Without her she didn't know if she'd be able to face the foals at all, even though she still wasn't exactly handling it expertly now. She heard her grandmother's words and took one nervous step closer to the foals before stopping. She just couldn't bring herself to go any further. They looked too much like him and too strange. They were bloody and unfamiliar to her. She shook her head. "Can't you just take care of them, Grandmother?"

PostPosted: Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:58 am

As the tan mare turned her attention to his brother, the dark colt perked up just a bit. Head raising so he could watch her approach and nuzzle with blatant curiosity. This one seemed nice, more then nice. Her presence was a comforting thing, and before she could draw away from his brother's cheek the pink tip of his nose was pressed against her chin.

Maybe the other mare, their mother, would go away and leave himself and his siblings with the nice one. Though even as the thought bloomed in his mind he knew that it shouldn't, and it made him frown. Sniffing sharply, the dark colt turned a warily glance up towards their mother, and his ears retreated back once more. He wanted her closer, and yet he didn't. The apprehension coming off her in waves was enough to make the youngster squirm, and he pressed her face in against his brother's side, peeking over his neck towards their sister. She was just standing there.

Something in him didn't like that she wasn't laying with them. He wasn't sure why, but he would have felt a little better if the filly was closer. How did he get her to come close though?

He liked the nice mare that smiled at them. He couldn't understand what she was saying but she felt like warmth and concern. When she touched him he lifted his head to rub his nose against her cheek. If there hadn't been such an unusual tension in the air, coming primarily from their mother, the white colt may have even been able to call the touch a happy moment. Alas, they had what they had and before long he found himself pulling away nervously.

He looked from the mares ahead of them, to his brother behind and his sister to the side. He didn't know what to do but found himself bobbing his head at his sister before letting out a quiet rumbling squeak to call her over. He somehow didn't think that it would make anything different but he had nothing else to do with himself.
