Name: Gianna Amarie Buvier (Pronounced boo-vie-ay)
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Personality: Shy at first, random, sweet, smart, studious
Bio: Gianna Buvier is a student at Queens University, a private liberal arts school in North Carolina. Due to her interest in Ancient Egypt, she took the necessary classes to be able to participate in a dig. It was a very selective program. So, using her smarts, she worked her way to the top to be picked among three others at her school. Once selected, she began packing immiediately. She had always wanted to go to Egypt ever since she learned about the Ancient Egyptian culture back in third grade. The mummy movies sparked her interest even more (though she refused to watch the third one because they replaced Evie with some other random woman).

After a long flight, the plane finally touched down in Cairo. Gianna was excited, but sleepy at the same time. She had always wanted to visit Egypt for as long as she could remember. The ancient culture, the pyramids, the sphynx. All of it called to her. So, after making it through baggage claims and security, she went outside the airport to finally feel that Egyptian atmosphere for herself. It was nice and sunny, like expected. Now, to make it to the hotel.

The Cairo City Center Hotel was the one the archaeoligical dig group was staying at. She hailed a cab and gave them the name of that hotel. Within ten minutes, she was there. She paid the taxi man, and got herself, and her bags out of the vehicle. Once she went through all the procedures to get her reserved room, she lugged her stuff up, and couldn't help but feel excited. All of the students were staying on the third and fourth floors. That was for a short time though. In a day or so, they'd be living in bunks at the dig site. Gianna didn't bother to unpack, however, she did lay down to take a nap. Jetlag did take its toll on her.

Erick couldn't believe that he was finally getting the opportunity to visit Egypt, land of the Pharaohs, the first great civilization of humanity. He was so excited that he had not even noticed the toll that jet lag was taking on him. When his flight landed in Cairo International Airport, he eagerly stepped off the plane carrying his bags. To his dismay, his legs were a little wobbly, so he had to slow his pace. It was a short cab ride to the Cairo Center Hotel, and with the same eagerness, he found out which room he was staying in, and unpacked his things. He decided to take a book with him down to the meeting room, it was a translation for hieroglyphics, he figured he should make sure he was still able to read them. He made his way down to the conference room where they were all supposed to meet, but he discovered that he was the only male on the trip. Even the professor leading them was a woman.

"Oh boy," he thought to himself, "This is gonna be an interesting trip."

So he just sat down and tried not to talk to anybody.

Gianna awoke with a start some twenty minutes later. Upon awakening, she remembered one vital piece of information. "Oh, crap!" She said aloud to herself. All of the students on the trip were supposed to meet in a conference room down a few floors. If she didn't hurry down there, she'd be late. So, she quickly brushed through her hair to make sure it wasn't a total mess before pulling it up into a ponytail. She then grabbed her phone, ipod, and room key before dashing downstairs, taking the stairs because there was a line for the elevator.

A few minutes later, she arrived out of breath in the conference room. Luckily, their little meeting hadn't started yet. She was just in time. She took a seat between a guy she'd never seen before and a girl from her school. The two females had talked on the plane ride, but not much. Gianna was glad there were water bottles in a bunch on the table for them to drink, for she grabbed one. She didn't like to run unless she had to. Once the bottle was open, she drank about half of it down. Needless to say she was thirsty.

As he was flipping through his hieroglyphics translation book, one of the girls who was sitting next to him interrupted him.

"Hi, my name's Amelia." she said with a warm smile.

"Oh, hi Amelia, i'm Erick, nice to meet you." he replied.

"Where did you find that book? I've been trying to find a translation book ever since I found out I was going on this trip."

"It was my father's, he was an archaeologist who worked here in Egypt, excavating the valley of the kings."

"Oh that's cool. So do you think we'll be going to the valley of the kings?" she asked.

"I'm not sure, I think they'll tell us in this meeting."

Erick went back to studying his book, waiting for the meeting to start. If anyone else decided to talk to him, he would be polite and respond, but he would rather just study.

Gianna observed other's while she was waiting for the meeting to begin. The guy next to had started talking to some girl about his book. Odd, he seemed to want to get the discussion overwith. Once it was, she couldn't help but catch the print, thus, as a habit, she read what she could on the page from her vantage point, before it was turned. Sure, she didn't move in closer, but she read it none the less. Books were a calling to her, regardless of type. When the page was turned, however, that's when the professor in charge of the dig stood up to speak..

She then directed her attention to the speaker, and away from the book. Mostly, they were going over the agenda. They were told that they'd better enjoy the city while they could, because first thing in the morning they'd be on a bus out into the desert. Lovely. No ipod, was her first thought. Music was another favorite of hers. However, she did pack a spare mp3 filled with her upmost favorite songs, and a huge pack of batteries. She'd have music out on the dig one way or another.

Erick only put his book down when the Professor began speaking. She called the meeting to order with her clear and stern tone of voice. But she was only saying things that they had already figured out for themselves. That the next day they would be heading for the dig site in in the Valley of the Kings, and to enjoy their free time in Cairo while it lasted. But before the meeting had started, he had noticed another one of the girls looking over to try and read his book. Rather than go with his instinct and blow her off, he decided to do the polite thing and at least talk to her and give her a chance to look at it. He waited patiently for the Professor to stop talking and end the meeting before turning around to speak with her.

"I noticed that you were looking at my book. You can go ahead and read it for a bit if you want." he said with a smile as he handed her the book.

"I'm Erick by the way, Erick Stroud."

Gianna had paid attention while the Professor had finished up, but she was glad the meeting was over. However, when she was addressed by the male with the book, she realized she had been found out. That made her blush. "Oh, I'm sorry....I hope that didn't bother you...I know how some people don't like others hovering over their shoulders while they read..." She said apologetically.

Great, she felt bad now. And here he was offering to let her borrow his book. She took it gingerly, for it looked aged. "Umm, thanks. I'm Gianna Buvier. You can call me Gia or Anna for short. Take your pick, it doesn't matter to me either way." She stated, realizing she was rambling. She had a bad habit of doing that, and it made her only more embarassed.

"Don't worry about it Gianna, you're not bothering me. I've had this book for a really long time so I practically know front to back."

It amused him a little bit to see how flustered she was. She had no reason to be, but she was anyway. But there was something about her that he liked, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. So he felt the urge to keep talking to her.

"So which school are you from? I don't think I've seen you around Dartmouth." he said in his usual formal tone.

Gianna raised her eyebrows. Dartmouth? Seriously. "I'm from Queen's in North Carolina...." She added, feeling a bit put out. If she was correct, Dartmouth was part of the best of the best when it came to colleges. "That's probably why you haven't seen me before." She said before biting her lip. "Thank's again for letting me borrow the book...I'll take care of it..." She reassured, holding it to her closely. To her it didn't make sense as to why he'd let her borrow his book, when that girl earlier had mentioned something about it, and he ended the conversation with her quite quickly.

"Oh you're from North Carolina? So am I, I grew up in Charlotte." it helped that they were from the same place, it kind of made it less awkward.

But she kept biting her lip and fidgeting like she was nervous.

"Are you ok Gianna?" he asked, "You keep biting your lip. Is it bleeding? Do you need a tissue or something?"

He didn't understand why he found himself caring about this girl, but he did. It wasn't often that he found himself caring about anyone for that matter. He had always been a loner, nobody really talked to him. But he was a loner by choice, he didn't usually get along with people very well.

Gianna instantly stopped biting her lip. It was a nervous habit. "Oh, ummm....No. My lip is just fine Erick. Sorry if I worried you..." She said, truly embarassed now. "It's a nervous habit..." She admitted quietly. She basically just made herself look like a total idiot in front of a complete stranger. Who just happened to be being nice to her, and she was going to be on a trip with for the next few months. Great, just great. Perfect, actually. Why was she always so awkward when it came to guys? .

He could tell that Gianna was starting to get uncomfortable, so he decided to try changing the subject to something they could both talk about.

"So its true, we really do get to go to the valley of the kings. I'm so psyched, they say that there are even still tombs that have yet to be discovered."

But then he saw her attention turn to his book.

"It's a translation for hieroglyphic text, and also anything you'd need to know about ancient Egyptian culture, customs, religions, or even their language. My father wrote it. He was Robert Stroud."

Gianna smiled. "Yes. It is pretty amazing. Seriously, I mean, even all the superstition over 'the mummy's curse' back when they found King Tut's tomb, they just barely scratched the surface of what's lying under the desert sands. Most of the older pyramids or monuments are probably covered with the shifting sands by now...." Gianna noticed she was rambling and trailed off. Sometimes she could talk a lot. Her parents pointed it out to her all the time. It's just that when she had something to say, or knew about something, it was like she had to spill all the information at once.

"Oh....wow..So, you probably don't even need the book, having been raised around it all....Must have been so...so...enriching." Gianna stated with a grin. She would have loved having parents that were adventurous. As it was, they did move every year, but in the same state. What fun was that? "I'm hoping I can also go to Greece sometime soon. I love Greek Mythology. Just as I love Egyptology. I mean, having a god for each different thing. Isis, Set, Osirus, Anubis...The list goes on and on to many minor gods, like Bast..." Uh-oh, there she was rambling again. She quickly shut her mouth. .
