Arrows and Thunderstorms - Part One
Ianna had relatively healed since the last wand escapade, but the relief was short lived for exactly a week later, a very weary Matilda voice echoed in her head.
"Mother...."
Ianna's eyes snapped open from her half-sleep before mumbling sleepily, "Again? So soon? Are they TRYING to kill you, Matty? AND me?"
"I'm starting to wonder. Something...Something is not right. Something is making them awaken at a faster rate than they have ever done before. I'm weak, mom. I can barely manage the connection...I fear...I fear I only have enough strength to send you there and back...."
To hear her daughter's fear and concern almost sent the silver-haired woman into a panic. "Where is it?" she asked, trying to shake the panic off.
"It's...at a Navajo Reservation."
Ianna slid from her bed and grabbed her coat, wrapping it around her shoulders and adjusting her glasses before giving a nod of her head, "All right. I'm ready."
For once, Matilda had waited until she had said she was ready to transport her. Ianna, however, had no idea that it was because she was phasing in and out of conciousness.
"Okay," Ianna murmured, looking around the relatively empty looking reservation. It was late at night - the moon shining high in the sky, even if it was half covered by an onset of dark clouds hinting at it storming soon, "If I was a wand...where would I Hide?"
Quicksilver eyes shifted back and forth in an attempt to find one, scanning the lands much like a laser would have, determined to get it done as soon as possible. She wanted to go home before it started to rain.
A mist of purple coming from what seemed to be a winged fence post caught her eye and she smirked - Bingo.
Ianna made her way to the wand, and was about to grab it when...
"WHO'S OUT THERE?!"
s**t.
Ianna took off running, her hand grasping at the wand and pulling it from the earth as she shot off. Unfortunately, at that exact moment, two things that were not in favor of the woman, happened.
The first? It started to rain. Hard. The thunder seemed to shake through the sky, and lightening started to immediately flash, lighting up the dark, inky pool of night.
And the second resulted in a long, loud wail for Ianna - an Arrow piercing her left arm, causing her to trip and fall over herself, rolling down one of the hills and into a near by stream. Her entire body wracked with cold and pain.
The shooter, apparently satisfied with making whatever the woman was drop and roll down a hill, retreated back to wherever they came from.
She was about to call out for Matilda when a rather anguished scream filled her own mind, causing a second bout of pain to stab through her, blinding her momentarily to the point of passing out. Matty hadn't closed their link, leaving Ianna vulnerable to whatever she was feeling.
And the pain was like nothing Ianna had ever felt before - as if a very piece of her essence had been torn from her and lit aflame by a white-hot fire. Her mind could not even register the fact that another wand had fallen with the storm and into her open hand, the one empty of the other wand.
The mortal passed out from the pain, the water carrying her away for a good half mile before Matilda recovered enough to transport her back home and passed out herself.

It had been a good two weeks since she had found the last two wands - and the previous three had already found their homes. Still her arm was set in it's sling, and still two of the five wands had yet to find their guardians. Ianna was beginning to wonder if the wands were playing some kind of sick joke on the two.
She hadn't heard from Matilda in all that time either - and she was slightly worried. While she figured the Ancient was simply resting and far too weak to open the link between them, she couldn't help but mother.
It was exactly what she was doing at the moment - pacing around the wand shop and mumbling to herself, "Matty...Matty...Matilda Dayleon...."
The Sidhe baby was sitting on the desk, happily gnawing on one of her mother's pens and getting ink all over her hands, oblivious to her mother's destress.

Ianna's silver eyes went immediately to the man who walked into the room, one of her hands sliding upwards to brush away stray silver locks from her rather distressed looking face.
Without Matilda around to let her know he was an owner, she figured he had just wandered in on his own accord - she also didn't know his name, which put her at a disadvantage. Something she didn't like at all.
"Just worried about my daughter," Ianna murmured, stopping short in her pacing to turn and face the man. It was easy to see that her arm was in a sling now, and because she had lost her normal outfit she was dressed in an old shirt and sweat pants - not exactly form flattering at all, "Is there something you're looking for?"

Ianna blinked and shook her head as she moved to take the pen from Coailiann's grasp - luckily she hadn't gotten any in her mouth but with it all over her hands, it wasn't likely that the little girl would remain clean for too long. Especially since the child's clothes were already covered in black splotches.
"Oh no, nothing like that," she said softly, smiling at him as she reached for a handkerchief, wiping the girl's hands much to the child's dismay.
"NO!"
"Shh, Kay."
Ianna turned to look at him once her task was completed - rather difficult with one hand - and slid upon the desk, holding the child with one arm on her lap, "My other daughter, grown, has been exhausting herself with her work and hasn't contacted me in a bit. Gets rather worrying..."
She looked far too young to have a grown daughter.
"Mmm, 10 year old eh? I'm afraid I really don't sell much of anything in this place. It's a special place....Here for a certain purpose I can't quite disclose at the moment...Though, my home has loads of toys that Matilda had when she was little - and she had much those same tastes. I could probably find something."
It seemed Ianna was oblivious to the fact that an attractive man was before her. Just someone to talk to her.

Malen watched as the woman struggled to care for her child and despite much fussing succeeding in cleaning the child, for now. he pondered the possibility go this woman having an adult child then mentally shrugged. Here on gaia it happened a lot some odd species got adopted out and grew long before their parents had a single birthday, it was odd but commonplace.
For a moment he mused her answer to his gift question the shrugged " I could wait around for a while and see what you have. I never thought about previously owned toys. it would give them a sense of history and perhaps Cass could make up stories about how your daughter played with them, that ought to make her happy. Oh by the way my name is Malen".Malen also wouldn't mind sticking around to talk to this woman and watch her interact with her daughter, they were cute and lately Malen simply hadn't seen enough cute in the world.

Ianna finally settled the child down, nuzzling at her head gently. It was rather hard taking care of a half mobile baby going on toddler with one hand, but somehow Ianna managed it.
"I'm Ianna, and this is Coailiann, And this is Ghosts of the Past." she indicated, with a little problem considering she was holding onto her daughter.
A thought struck her - "What drew you here, Malen?"
She'd help him pick out a toy later, but for now she wondered, what with two wands still hanging about, if he had felt a tug towards the shop telling him to go in, or if he truly was just curious.

" Both beautiful names I assure you with nince rings to them" Malen murmerd in reponse while contemplating Ianna's question. His yellow and orange eyes closed as he tilted his head to the eft slightly and nibbled on his lower lip while he thought. "Instinct, I guess something in me said go here, ignore the beanie babies despite the sale sign and go here" he laughed it sounded funny even to him.

A bright smile suddenly lit up the woman's face, moving to set Coailiann in the playpen with little more than a little whine of protest. The girl was being on her best behavior simply out of fear for being put away again.
She still thought that had been a punishment.
"Oh! Goodie!" she giggled almost childishly and slid behind the desk, pulling out a thick looking leather bound book, golden edging and lettering flashing in the light reading "The Book of Life and Death"
"Touch it!" she almost demanded - though in such a way it wasn't imposing - simply rather cute.
Perhaps things would be looking up! MAYBE the wands were giving her a break!
The minute Malen would touch the book, the cover would fly open, an invisible wind winding through the pages and blowing them rapidly open until it landed, quite suddenly, on a well-worn page. On this page was a very realistic sketch of a wand with wings and a crystal at the bottom.
Under the picture read:
"Navajo. Wand ID 00013. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,
Matilda."
Ianna beamed - she had been right! WITHOUT Matilda! EAT THAT WOMAN! Another giggle sounded before she sat there, tilting her head and looking at him, "Congratulations, Malen dear, You're a father."
Ianna did seem more beautiful with a smile than the look of concern.

Malen stared at Ianna in confusion , he touched a book and it made hima father? What exactly did Ianna's older daughter have to do with this and what type of soul was trapped in a sketch ?. " Thanks but exactly how am I supposed to take care of a picture ?" . His inquiry was an earnest one, if the fates had decided he was to be a parent who was he to deny them, besides he'd always wanted a child, though he wasn't exactly sure how to raise soemthign like thisIhad all happned to fast, Ianna's cute charming smile, touchiing the inviting looking book and bam fatherhood of a ...picture.

Ianna reached down and picked up the obsidian wand, sliding it over to him. The wand itself was topped with wings and at the bottom was a beautiful amethyst crystal held in a claw.
"No, there's a spirit in this wand. The picture just lets me know which wand you are supposed to get. And before you ask why you, I can't answer it. The spirit chooses the guardian, not myself or Matilda."
She smiled a little bit at him. "You're certainly taking this well."
Coailiann blew a raspberry.

Malen shrugged " I've always wanted kid but most agncies take one look at occupation bounty hunter and say I'm sorry but we don't think you're suited to child rearing, most women say the same thing not to mention i've never met one i've wanted to settle down with."
The wand was beauitful from the tips of each wing to the rich purple sphere it held him entranced , particualr the hazy plum coloured mist that had wound itself around it. " Do you know exactly what type of spirit is trapped or is that a mystery as well?" Not that it mattered to malen but if he had a clue about what he was raising he could prepare better. The attic would have to be converted into the child's bedroom and he had no clue how long the spirit would reiamn inthe wand so he wanted to get a head start." also how logndo they stay trapped in the wand?'

The woman shrugged a little, "As far...as I know, it's...A succubus."
Strange that the succubus spirit would choose a male - but...Who was she to argue, "Also part Navajo, from what I can tell. I found her on a Navajo reservation, in either case. Tis how I got this."
She wiggled herself, pointing to the arm in the sling, "As for when the spirit will come out...It'll come out when it feels you're ready for it to."
But something else the man had said caught her ear, and she had to respond, "Well, I have two and I've been by myself. Never had a man, in any sense of the word. So I guess settling down myself is out of the question. The closest thing Coailiann has to a dad is my gay friend Patrick."

Malen laughed, a succubus with him, somewhere some cosmic power was laugh it's a** off right now he just knew it. He eyed Ianna's arm and sighed softly " I'm sorry that in some way I caused you pain, you're far to fine a lady to have to suffer especially on my behalf". He couldn't help but smile at the silvery beauty, she had given him a great gift. " Also if you ever want to change that whole man thing" his voice lowerd, became more sultry " I owe you and wouldn't object helping a lady in need'
