Looks okay so far for a toy commercial. I'm glad there'll be four decent transformers movies in my life time. (Including the 86 movie)
(Seriously, they're toy commercials, not Shakespeare.)

The Bay movies are decent. On par with the G1 cartoon, I'd say. Fun to watch. For that matter, what made the '86 movie so superb?

it was ballsy that why sure they killed off most of the hero's to make way for new toys but still OP died (for the 1st time) and it was a real death how many other kids shows at the or even in the next 5 or 10 years would do something like that. it was like a life lesson, hero's dont always win, and some times the villains do. and when your a little kid stuff like that sticks with you.

It wasn't ballsy. It was an attempt to get kids to buy the new toys. But they figured out that they screwed up, because they'd planned to do the same thing in the G.I. Joe movie, but at the last minute they added somebody saying it was all okay, and duke was just in a coma.
Let me ask you this: just from what is shown in the movie, and using nothing that was written afterward like the comics and following G1 seasons, what is Unicron's motivation? Why is this planet cruising around space eating other planets and then turning into a humongous robot to ruin peoples' day? Remember, you can only use the movie.
Let me also ask you this: How did Starscream get to be emperor anyway? We see everybody fighting on Astrotrain and then we cut away, next time we see the Decepticons all of a sudden it's Starscream's coronation. How'd he get on top?

Unicron big epic bad guy a must have for a movie, do i need to now his motivation, no, he eat a planet in the first 10 min and wants to eat more. AS for Starscream hes ******** Air Commander Starscream hes been Megs #2 for how long, why wouldint he take over after Megs was gone?

We get cars and stuff that turn into robots and blow things to hell. Heck, Bay gave us the leg humping Rattrap-clone Wheelie, but the 80's movie gave us the ORIGINAL WHEELIE. Even the designer(s) of his TOY didn't care about him.

eek This whole thread is depressing.
The trailer is mediocre at best. No real shocker images, no hint at any form of plot other than "We've known of these things for several dozen years," and the cybertronian that was comatose was not hinted at in any way for faction, identity, or in any other way. Just a bunch of images that are so generic that most of the trailer leaves me saying "This could be any movie."
As for the thread itself . . . in a guild devoted to Transfandom, are we really going to just sit here and tear apart the majority of the program? It is a flawed concept, with plot holes galore. Bay has given both the greatest gift and most horrendous handicap to the series. Gift in that it made TFs mainstream again . . . handicap in that the movies are essentially crappy.
Mylian Let me ask you this: just from what is shown in the movie, and using nothing that was written afterward like the comics and following G1 seasons, what is Unicron's motivation? Well, I would start up with in the beginning of the film, Unicron consumed that world . . . shortly after 'digestion' began, his systems powered up and the ring glowed. Therefore, the planet opens up not as a sentient being, but as something consuming suitable masses for energy conversion. Later, when shown to have intelligence, it became a malevolent entity. Such could be a product of slaughtering countless billions/trillions to survive. Not seeing those so small in comparison as equals, why care about them? Psychopathic tendencies combined with the desire to thrive make him a villian. The only time he interacted with any other character was out of selfish desire- to destroy the Matrix without putting himself in the line of fire.

Starscream is second in command of the Decepticons, denoting a certain level of skill. Also, he was in charge of the seekers, by far the most veratile group in the Con army that doesn't rely upon a gestalt gimmick. He became leader by using his own private army in the larger group . . . not unlike Soundwave, but with bigger guns at his disposal. The fight would have been perhaps exciting, but fairly monotonous in context. All the cons beating each other up- but not with ripping and tearing of insides or mortal wounds. A bar brawl without the ability to really kill.

Psychopathic tendencies combined with the desire to thrive make him a villian. The only time he interacted with any other character was out of selfish desire- to destroy the Matrix without putting himself in the line of fire. So he needs planets to make energy to make his ring glow so he can get around. His ring wasn't glowing before he attacked Lithone. How did he get to Lithone? Why is the Matrix the "one thing, the only thing" that can stand in his way? Quote: Starscream is second in command of the Decepticons, denoting a certain level of skill. Also, he was in charge of the seekers, by far the most veratile group in the Con army that doesn't rely upon a gestalt gimmick. BogiePop if im going to go see a movie about robots it would me nice to see robots, not 2 hrs of shia labeoufs underwear and megan fox tits and a**, cal me naive... http://tfwiki.net/wiki/SpikeCall me naive, but if I'm watching a cartoon about robots it would be nice to see robots, not a half hour of Spike Witwicky's shenanigans.

Magni Prime the cybertronian that was comatose was not hinted at in any way for faction, identity, or in any other way. He had blue eyes and a chevron, gold tinting. and wings, and given the fact that Silverbolt is in the cast I would hazard a guess more Aerialbots. Although there has been no prequel to confirm this.

Magni Prime well said
Spike's a token human there when needed hes not in every seen or even every episode, he was the main focus of the show, not like sam and his titted friend that has to in ever shot so bay can show robots doing something in the background.
