Inferno Breeze's Epic Adventure

[Inferno Breeze]

The wind swirled around the empty square, a gathering storm caged by the stone walls of shuddering buildings. From one end emerged a lone figure, shrouded in a dark rag. From the other, a tiny green speck of a creature. And yet for its size, one could not tell the horrors it could unleash. It had been nary a few years, but peoples memories were already washing out the terror of the previous grunny attack. But at least one had retained the vivid imagery of brave, honest Gaians felled by the mistakes of a megalomaniac.

This was her battle to win. This was her battle to lose. The shroud lifted from her visage and was thrown aside, picked up by the howling wind and thrown clear over the rooftops, foreshadowing the agony that was to be released.

No signal, just the flash of instinct and the opponents knew what had begun.

The grunny was faster, but that was to be expected. It was built for this. She wasn't ready. Her training had been with dummies that lacked the agility of the genuine artifact. Her first shot hit the air where the grunny had been two seconds earlier, crushing the stone. She swore as she dashed around the large stone fountain that was the centerpiece of the town. She would have to keep her eye on the creature. They were notorious for disappearing around corners.

She reached to her leg and grabbed a second bolt, loading it into her bow in one swift motion. The grunny rounded a corner and as she chased after it she ground to a halt. The grunny had ran into a pile of grunny plushies. Damn those merchandisers, selling the toys for a mere 249 GC. They were everywhere nowadays.

But then she smiled as she remembered her own stuffed toy. 100% Cotton. 100% Flammable. She hadn't brought a Hot Iron Crossbow for nothing. She fired her bolt into the pile and watched as it burst into flames. Only against the red light did she notice the small green speck that sprang from a nearby window. Spinning, she swung her crossbow as it neared her head, catching its leg just enough to veer it off course. It crumpled onto the ground for a second, its leg obviously crushed. It had been a close call for both of them.

As the grunny lay on the street, recovering from its leg injury, she kicked out with her foot, There was no time to reload the cross boy. Quickly she struck.

And again she her foot caught it in the side.

"Curses!" she swore as the grunny landed next to a sewer pipe. It moved weakly into the darkness. She ran quickly to the nearest manhole and climbed into the underground. The silence even down here was almost audible. The grunny invasion had scared or killed everything away. A skittering noise erupted from her left. It was still injured.

Rushing to the source she saw the grunny crawling towards a smaller service shaft that was completely enshrouded in darkness. Firing off a single shot before it was engulfed in the shadows, she heard a shriek indicating the hit.

Reaching to the light in her belt she flicked her wrist and a small flame burst forth from the crossbow. Packing the bow on her back, she removed the retractable shaft of a lantern from another pocket, extending it to a good meter in length. Attaching the light to the end, she ventured into the tunnel. A movement at the edge of the halo of brightness alerted her and she fired another bolt, clipping it.

Shining the light where the grunny had disappeared, she noticed a very wide, very obvious blood trail. Walking up to the hissing grunny, she stomped on its head, nearly breaking its neck.

Suddenly, as she is about to deal the deathblow, she slips in the blood and falls flat on her back. Good thing no one was around to see that.

Incensed by her own embarrassment, Breeze picked herself up and glowered at the prone green bunny that lay on its side, its eyes glazing over. With a definitive thwack she delivered the deathblow with a boot to its head, crushing its skull.

Still a bit hurting from her spill in the sewers, Breeze decided that her time would be well spent in destroying random chunks of garbage. A lot of damage is dealt, but none of it against the proper target, for a new enemy had arisen.

Tier 2 - Labtechs

Feisty little things, labtechs are. Their tiny hands and their tiny feet, attached to tiny quick bodies that skitter about and lurk in shadows. Somehow, as if attached to a hive mind, they coordinate their attack simultaneously. The small white-coated elves darted around Breeze as she attempted to get her bearings. The bright light of day stung her eyes as she exited the sewers and she could not see what it was she shot at. Squinting, she realized it was an elf-shaped rock. Curses.

Suddenly a freak storm blew by. Covered in her protective winter gear, Breeze was unharmed, but the elves were tossed up, their tiny forms erupting into the air.
