"ARE YOU INSANE?!"
Mingmei grabbed her companion's ears from behind and tugged back, pushing her large hind feet into the back of his skull. "Stop! Stop it, you idiot!" She lost her balance and flopped onto his back, screaming when her feet flew up over her head.
"Oh, my head.." She rubbed it and sat up on her forepaws. "What in the world are you doing? First, you promised a couple you'd give them cubs, and now you think your going to find a female to do that? Are you absolutely, insane?! Mchezaji, please, think about this. Once you have cubs, it won't be as easy to give them away as you-" "Mingmei." He admonished gently. Mchezaji dipped his paws into the cool stream, careful to stay on the stones as he passed across the gentle water. "Have faith. This is the greatest gift I can do for anyone. Maybe this was always my quest after all; we'll never know until we get there, will we?" He grinned, chuckling lightly.
"Besides, their not my cubs, their Hekima and Tiegan's. We're just...cubsitting." Now, all he had to do was fine a female either kind or stupid enough to give him what he wanted. Of course, he would do anything for her in return, save matehood, but it was a broad enough spectrum that she should be happy enough.

Just further up the stream, Lalika balanced carefully on the slick stones before bending down for a drink of the crisp cool waters. The leopardess was innocently out enjoying some rare quiet time. No patients, no squabbles for her to deal with out here.
It was nice.
Her paws tingled with the feel of water as it ran over them. "So beautiful." She murmured before stepping in the rest of the way. She swam over through the stream rather than picking her way across. Grabbing onto dry land the leopardess shook her body, scattering droplets of water everywhere before looking for a nice spot of sun to dry off in. Finding such a spot Lalika let out a sigh of comfort before stretching out and closing her eyes.

With just the sunlight to highlight the contours of his fur, Mchezaji stepped over the last of the stones onto dry land. His outlined paws flexed into the dirt with a relaxed sigh.
When he looked over his shoulder to speak with Mingmei, he caught sight of her. A lovely lady leopard with gorgeous butterfly wings on her back. His heart soared. Maybe she was the one? With his head held high, the male sauntered over her way.
Mingmei saw the direction he was going and literally face palmed. It wasn't going to work; she knew it, those hybrids knew it, the God's new it, so why didn't he? Why couldn't he accept the fact that no female alive was going to give in to such an act? For all she knew, he could be playing her!
"Think this over," she whispered desperately in his ear. "You still have time to turn around. Do it before it's too-" Late. They were already at her side. With a gulp, the hare settled back on his head, cleared her throat and said, "Hello."

Stirring slightly the leopardess didn't realize that she had company until a voice spoke up. "He-hello?" Yawning she looked up. Oh. A pretty male leopard....and a....a hare? A hare! So adorable! Lalika bolted up and smiled warmly at the familiar. "Hello there, little one."
Remembering the male, she looked at him and nodded politely. "Umm...is there something I can do for you two?" She flushed lightly, "I mean are you lost? Or did I intrude?" She looked around suddenly alarmed, "I didn't think this was claimed territory or anything...is it?" The leopard kept an eye on them trying to see if they came from around her area. But neither looked familiar to her, so she assumed that they must be either rogues or travellers. Maybe they were lost after all? She frowned, not like she would be much help there. She was definitely no guide after all.

Little one? Who did she think she was talking to? Mingmei frowned and straightened up, trying to look kind and stern at the same time. Even though she was small for her species, that didn't mean she wanted to be treated like it. "Not really, we were just passing by. Weren't we?"
She let the last word hang in the air, tempting Mchezaji to argue with her, when in her heart she knew he would. Unfortunately.
Mchezaji shook his head, a charming smile lighting up the corners of his pale face. She really was quite the sweetheart, this leopard. "We're not lost, nor did you intrude. We're just here. Actually, we're on a quest." Even though he felt a rapid pounding on the back of his head, the agile leopard sat down at the females side so she wouldn't feel intimidated.
Then he looked down at the ground, thinking over the best way to phrase it. Then again, he couldn't just come out with it, so he started slow. "My name's Mchezaji, and this is my friend, Mingmei. May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?"

Lalika looked at the hare, "Alright." So they were just passing through then. No worry. Right? Frowning at the male, Lalika watched as he sat down next to her. "A quest?" What type of quest could they be on? She sighed softly. Hopefully nothing too dangerous.
"Mchezaji and Mingmei." She smiled, "Nice to meet you. And yes you may have the pleasure of knowing my name." A soft laugh escaped her before she finished, "I'm Lalika."

Mchezaji smiled and nodded. "Thats exactly right, Lalika!" He clenched his paw with a laugh. "Originally it was a quest to find a lady love, but since then it's changed." What a perfect segway into his next topic. He couldn't have thoguht of a better way to phrase it!
"Into something equally as fickle." Mingmei huffed from behind his head. She crossed her arms and propped her large hindfeet on his shoulder blades.
Out of all the stupid, idiotic plans, he chose to pursue this one? "I wouldn't listen to him if I were you, miss. You'll catch the crazy.
The rhythmic leopard frowned and tried to roll his eyes back to look at her, then gave up. "Fickle? No, not fickle. Selfless, I think." He leaned towards Lalika nervously, unsure for the first tiem during this conversation. "You see...I've made friends with a couple. Their both hybrids, who can't have cubs of their own and since I'm whole I thought that I would help them....but, well, you see my problem."

Lalika eyed the male. A quest to find a lady love? "Changed? How so?" She titled her head before bursting into laughter. What was he looking for now? A man love? "Oh! I'm sorry - I just had a random thought." The leopardess shook her head. "Don't mind me."
"The crazy, eh?" Lalika smiled at the hare. "Must be some quest he's on then."
"A hybrid couple....that you want to help?" She frowned and sat there before his meaning dawned on him. Oh! "So you're looking for cubs for them?" She shook her head, "And obviously you can't get pregnant yourself..." She gave him a severe look, "And you better be no cub theif." But that would leave him only one option. Oh this was awkward.

Mingmei turned around and raised up, one ear up and one down. "Looks like it's already spread," she murmured. She squeeled when Mchezaji jumped forward, and grabbed onto his ears.
"Gods no!" He blurted desperately. "Why on earth would I...? Gods no." With a heavy sigh, he sat back down and gathered his composure. "....I'm looking for a female who would be willing to help them. She would have to be able to let the cubs go to a new family, without any ties to her or me at all. And that wouldn't be so difficult, if half the females didn't expect my heart in the bargain."
He shook his head gravely. "I just can't do that."
Mingmei reached forward to rub his head comfortingly. "What he means is, he wants to help them, but he doesn't want to be tied down because of it. Neither of us do, right?" He nodded. "So the question is...are you single?"

"Good." Lalika nodded. At least he had that sense of honor. She smiled warmly at the knowledge. Though the next part just made her shake her head slowly. "So you want to father cubs for them?"
She laughed, a slightly bitter laugh. "So half of those females wanted your heart? And that's the reason they didn't agree?" She closed her eyes and sighed, "You know I was going to say that it's a hard request - for a mother to give up her cubs to a couple that she doesn't even know."
Not like she would know much about that. The leopardess thought of her own scattered siblings with a sigh. "Am I single? Really?" She shook her head before getting up and starting to pace. "So what if I say that I am?"

"Thats the sum of it, yes." Mchezaji sighed and sat up, curling his tail around his legs. His ears were perked up, tall and straight, same as his spine, without an ounce of dishonesty in him. He wasn't proud or desperate, just determined. "I couldn't promise them my heart when it wasn't theirs to have." He shook his head. The more he talked it out, the more impossible his quest seemed to be.
Mchezaji looked at her, and sensed his chance to pounce. This was it. That sliver of hope was shining just outside his reach. "Just think about it. Your able to have cubs as many times as you want, at any age, with any male, in any place. You were born with that gift; they weren't. For all you know, they could be the best parents avalible for those cubs." He stood up to block her path.
Mingmei hopped up onto his head and watched every move the leopardess made. Was it asking too much of her, to give them up? He was being honest, but not very conveincing. She gussied up her fur and jumped into the fray. "Trust me. Their a young couple, but their very much in love. They have a pride, and both have large families to love them deeply. Whoever decided to accept the bargain would know that."

Lalika frowned at the male. "So you already belong to someone?" She finally asked quietly. But wasn't he...no. The leopardess shook her head. "Never mind. None of that is my business." She stood and looked at him squarely, "What if I wasn't? You know hybrids aren't the only ones who can have cub problems. I could be one of those who aren't made to sustain life inside. Maybe I've lost a litter before. Maybe this would be the only litter that I would ever have."
"That's just it, Mchezaji." She shook her head, "I don't know. I know nothing about this couple." She looked over at the hare and sighed, "You tell me these things, but I just met the both of you. How can I trust you?"
Yet as she looked at the two of them, Lalika couldn't help but to trust them. It was odd, they were complete strangers yet both seemed to radiate honesty and good will towards her. "Anyways." She looked away, "If I even did such a thing I would have to go to all the trouble of going with you to deliver the cubs. No way would I miss seeing this loving young couple."

"No." Mchezaji shook his head. "I would like to be, but-" He shrugged his shoulders. "If you weren't then this could be the perfect opportunity to find out. There are Gods to pray to, Deity's to guide the entire birthing process so having future litters shouldn't be a problem at all." The leopard sighed. "I can't guarantee what the future will hold, Lalika, but I know that I can make it better for them. I understand that you haven't met them before, and that you barely know me, which is why I'm not asking you. I'm just hoping you'll consider it."
Mingmei straightened her shoulders. "If you did go through with it, you could come with us to deliver the cubs. Then you could see them for yourself." It wasn't such a strange concept, now that she got to thinking about it.

So he didn't belong to anyone then. Why did her heart flutter at the sound of that? He was just asking her to have a litter for a different couple! There was no romance involved in that - just a bittersweet agreement. Her gaze fixed itself on the grass and her paws. Should she actually agree? Those poor hybrids couldn't control the fact that they couldn't breed. And if they deserved cubs...then why couldn't she? Was she a selfish creature like that to just say no for such a cause?
No. She wasn't like that.
"Fine." She looked back up at the leopard and smiled at the hare, "Of course I will come to deliver the cubs, I have to see this couple for myself." She nodded, trying her best to appear brave and determined. But on the inside she was shaking. Her cubs...if she was lucky then none would come from this. But if they did then they were not her's to keep...any mother would be heartbroken to lose such little ones. She took a deep breath. It was for the hybrid couple. She felt bad for them, not swayed by this male after all. He was just handsome, kind, and with such a beautiful soul to be willing to do this for others. After all these would be his cubs too.
Oh, gosh. His cubs. The thought made Lalika flush. She must be going crazy, but she was going to go through with it. "I don't need time." She finally stated firmly, "I'll go through with this and if the gods gift us with cubs then that couple must be blessed. Oh she must be crazy, but her decision was made.
She would gift this unknown couple her own cubs. May the gods bless them.
