Here is a piece of the new novel I'm writing. I finished Marker High that was for NaNoWriMo and now this smile Tell me what you think. I know it's short, short, short right now. It's seriosuly just the very start. Does it catch your attention?

I held my breath and sunk into the water, opening my eyes to watch through blury water all of the dangling feet in the water and splashes from kids. Someone was standing on a basketball in the water, having troubles keeping it under their feet with its desire to rise to the surface. Colors mixed with the silent blue, swim suits of all designs and tastes.

An air bubble escaped my sealed lips, floating back and forth to the surface to pop next to my best friend. I could see his hand next to my arm, ready to pull me up if I failed to do so first. I swam down a little bit, reaching under his foot and tickling it, making him squirm away in the water with a deserved kick to my side in the process. The air burst out of me with the jab and I was forced to swim back up for air, laughing with the first gasp I got.

“Rude!” Owen said, splitting his hand across the water to spray my face right after I wiped the water out of my eyes.

I turned away from him to dry out my stinging eyes without the interference of more water, treading with my feet to stay afloat before grabbing the cold stone edge of the pool. I put my arms on the flat surface, lifting myself up to climb out and sit on the edge, my feet dangling into the water. Owen dared to swim back towards me, getting out and sitting next to me, ringing out the end of his trunks.

“I hate how you can do that,” He said over the splashing and screaming that echoed off all of the walls. After squeezing all of the chilling water off his trunks he could, he flicked his hands around to get it off his hands.

I smoothed my bright red hair on my head, wrapping my hands around the end to make the water drip out and sprinkle the ground behind me, “Do what?”

“See under the water, it’s freaky.” He shook his head, patting his own hair to his head.

“Just because I have good eyes and don’t need contacts doesn’t mean you have to hate me.” I laughed putting my hand on his, “Come on, let’s go get some slurpee’s before I have to be at practice.”

We both stood, fixing our suits of any awkwardness before padding to the separate locker rooms to change into dry clothes. The locker room was steamy and uncomfortable with people taking hot enough showers to melt all of the fat off their bones.

It caught my attention, let me know when you make the best selling list. : )
You may want to clarify the seeing under the water thing, people can see under water, just not that clearly like your character does. Nice job with the descriptions by the way.
