It had been a few days since the incident. A few days of staying holed up in Heather's house and trying to adjust to the idea of not being in school, of not being a 'prisoner' of Hillworth, of...not having his old roommate.
That one hurt the most. So much in fact he reached a point where he couldn't stand the lack of contact with the other boy and moved to fix it.
Zac had awoken that day to a flurry of text messages, asking...no, pleading for a meeting. He had managed to snag a hotel room that they could meet in with no chance of anyone finding out and they could talk things out. They could see each other again, and the blonde needed this more than anything at the moment. He hoped maybe Zac needed it too.
So he waited. It wasn't the best of hotels but it also wasn't covered in creepy crawlies which was good enough by Demy's standards. Under the circumstances it was the best he could do, since he really wasn't supposed to be able to rent a room nor should he have the cash to do so. Somehow he had crossed both these hurdles and gotten a place.
Demy lay sprawled across the one bed in the room, waiting for the other boy to show up. He was jittery, wanting so bad to see the other yet fearing what would happen when he did arrive. Would Zee be angry? Would Zee still want to continue their relationship?
...Would Zee even bother to show up?...

There was a set of quick hard raps against the door, lower than someone of average height would have knocked, and the slight grumbling from the other side of the door implied that what Demy hoped had come to pass. Zack had come... though there was more than a few snarls on the other side of the door about 'hotel rooms' and 'how it must look' and a few clenched teeth snarls wondering how on EARTH Dem had managed to rent the hotel room, though given its location maybe he shouldn't have been surprised.
"Open the damned door!" He said more clearly not wanting to be seen standing in the hallway any longer than he had to be.
Never mind he was bristling at the idea of the wasted pep talk.

At the sound of the knocking Demy leaped off the bed and scrambled over to the door.
"Coming Zee! Hold on!"
Well...the shorter boy didn't seem pleased. Demy really couldn't blame him, but it also wasn't exactly the meeting he had been hoping for. He'd just have to take what he could get.
With a click the door flung open, Zee immediately greeted by that smiling, dorky face he was so used to seeing back at the dorm. The blonde was dressed in his usual bright attire, acid eyes alight with pure happiness at seeing the other again.
Oh, and there was an unlit cigarette tucked behind an ear. That was new.
"Come on in!"
Zee was ushered in, Demy quickly shutting the door behind him.
"I've missed you~"

Zink stared at the offensive white cylinder tucked so neatly behind Dem's ear for a long moment, listening for a moment to the declaration that he had been missed for and nodding in acknowledgement before reaching up and snatching the cigarette and holding it up between them mutely for a second before snapping off the filter and then proceeding to shred the rest of it into tiny bits.
"Missed you too." He said after the last of it dropped to the carpet and he dusted off his hands from the last shreds of dried tobacco.
"Trying for a new slow death since leaving? I hear lung cancer is VERY trendy."

Demy was staring, smile never fading from his face. Ah, Zee. He had missed Zee. His short little grumpy a**. How he loved it.
"You know, if you didn't like the cigarette you coulda just said so, instead of shredding it all over the nice floor."
Green eyes shifted a moment to glance at the remnants of the cig before moving back up to continue looking at Zee. Damn, he'd just have to go steal another later or something.
"Trying not to die at all actually. Just straightening s**t out, working on stuff. Didn't give up studying by the way, I've been looking up stuff online when Heather's busy..."

"... Very nice floor...right, that's probably the cleanest spot on that floor." He said with narrowed eyes. "PLEASE tell me how starting smoking and dropping out of school after I -said- I would help is trying not to die and straightening things out. Not that I'm not happy your studying, but you had BETTER be planning to pass a GED." He scolded. "Do you know what it was like to return from..." he flailed his hands in a moment of lacking the right words. "And... and finding a NOTE not a person?"

That caused the smile to fade.
"I'm sorry I did it that way Zee...but I couldn't walk out with you still there. That would have been too hard and I had to do it and just...I'm sorry. That was wrong, I wish I didn't have to do it that way..."
He sighed, moving to embrace the other whether he wanted it or not. Demy needed a hug, he was going to get one. Damnit.
"I'm grateful you offered to help! I'd still love to study with you, if you'll have me...but my hole was too deep in Hillworth for even -you- to dig me out, and I just...man I'm so much better having gotten out of there. That's not to say I wanted away from YOU because I didn't. I miss you so much and I miss us being roommates and hanging out...we can still hang out, right? Please?"
Demy was sniffling again, just like a few days ago when he had left. This -sucked-. He missed Zee so much.
"I just...wasn't doing good there Zee, please understand. Hillworth wasn't my place to begin with. I needed out of there for my own sanity...I'm feeling so much better with the pressure off of me. I can study -in peace- and actually remember some of this stuff. Isn't that good? I'm trying to do good!"
He wanted so damn bad to make the other happy. Still the loyal minion Zee had so long ago.

"Meant it or NOT it still -hurt- Dem... " He said sagging slightly in the embrace, he was too tired to fight it and honestly still a little sore from his 'adventures' with Lyra.
He stood there for a long moment and then shook his head sharply.
"I'm still... MAD at you!" He said shoving hard into Schee's chest.
"You just BAIL!" another shove. "Like theirs nothing TO it..." with each rise in his voice he shoved again. Normally it was Scheelite who appeared to do the shoving but sometimes you just got pushed too far and had to push back.

"I'm sorry, I didn't want to hurt you..."
For a long moment he was content with the hug, just enjoying the closeness of it all.
It quickly came to an end with a hard shove to the chest.
"What the hell?!"
With each shove he backed up, looking more and more startled. What in the holy hell was that?
"It wasn't an EASY decision Zee! I know maybe you feel like I did it on a whim but I didn't. I tried to fix things! I TRIED to stay! But I can't..and I'm really sorry I hurt you, but being there was hurting -me-. I've felt so....odd since waking up. I want to fix that, I want to be ME again..this is helping, don't you understand?"
There was another shove in there and the boy finally had to -growl-. Enough! The darker clothes of Scheelite rippled over his bright attire, and the blonde swiftly grabbed Zee and lifted him into the air.
"No more shoving, that's not a nice partnery thing to do!"
Then he plopped Zee's a** down on the bed, and stood over him, grinning. The b*****d was actually kind of enjoying this. It was almost like when they were new roomies and he spent every waking moment just pressing Zee's buttons to test the waters.

"Oh you SON of a b***h you do NOT Bring uniforms into a personal fight!!" Zac cursed and it was only because of that argument he had just made that he didn't shift up in uniform too.
His eyes were narrowed into thin icy blue slits, the color sometimes seemed to wash out of them when he was like this. "Let.... go." He said very precisely. "Get off... " he added the red creeping across his cheeks as the slightly taller young man hovered over him.

"Either way you love me!"
The singsong tone Zac knew all too well had creeped into his voice. Lord. Still, the dark uniform rippled away again, revealing the brighter clothes underneath.
"cmon Zee, first time we see each other in days and you're going to waste it being angry?"
Rather than let go, he tugged the boy back to his feet. What now?

"It's not a -waste" he said scowling petulantly. What was it about Scheelite that made him feel like snarling and grumping like a little kid...among other things.
"I don't know you tell ME....you wanted me to come OUT here after all. Should I worry that your fraternizing with your Lieutenant? Your STAYING with her after all." He folded his arms.

The blonde tilted his head, genuinely confused. Maybe he should get back to his studying.
"Para's like my big sister man, she was nice enough to let me come stay with her, but just mean enough to make me keep studying."
He smirked a bit at that.
"I wanted you to come out here so I could -see you- and we could spend some time together. Is that so bad?"

Zack's scowl deepened and quite against his own rules, long coats and face masks changed out briefly for heavy winter hoodies and turtlenecks as he shoved Dem hard backwards into the wall and followed up quickly shifting back to Zac in a heartbeat to cooly demand "So... SHE can get you to study and -I- can't?" He arched an eyebrow. "There... see? Time together, just like old times..." He lifted his chin to stare into acid green eyes
"And I'd say you can see me pretty well from here, so how about some answers...where do I -stand- Dem, I'm getting really sick of not knowing anymore. I hate not knowing, particularly when Its from someone I think I -should- know."

Acid eyes widened in surprise as he suddenly found himself slammed against the wall and a short little Zac giving him one deep scowl. Whoa, since when did Zee get so pushy?
...He kind of liked it.
"Excuse me? I WAS studying back at the dorm, I was using your flashcards and everything. Hey, guess what? I took them with me. So no, Heather's not the only one that can get me to study, I WAS studying for you too! Don't act like you didn't see me back in the dorm night after night studying til I friggin fell asleep! I barely made quota because of it last week, I was studying."
The blonde huffed a bit, but the next question made an evil little smirk cross his face.
"Where do you stand?"
Zee found himself grabbed and suddenly pulled into quite the rough kiss.
There, let him see where he stood.
