link to patch notes found here.

lots of new content in this patch. so much that I won't even bother listing it here because it would take forever to read.
anyways, we're looking at chat channels, balance issues, gameplay additions and more. a few of my thoughts to start off with:

1. wow, chat channels. finally. let's hope they not royally screw this up.
2. i think a majority of the balance changes were directly made to counter Zerg. Fungal Growth not affecting air units is huge, on par with the repercussions that +1 Roach range had. consequently, we're going to see a whole lot more air openings against Zerg: drops, harassment, and the like.
3. glad they took out Void Ray speed. they did not need the speed boost upgrade to begin with since it made them somewhat overpowered. also, giving them the damage boost to Massive property units will allow them to act as a more direct counter to bigger units such as Battlecruiser and Carrier.
4. coupled with the fact that Fungal Growth will no longer affect air, we're going to see a lot more Pheonix play from Protoss as a result of the lessened build time. coupled with Void Rays, I think the unit composition will completely shut out Zerg.

overall, I like the changes they're doing to Protoss air. they're somewhat of a lackluster race and have no variety, so this encourages me now to do more Stargate play. but reducing another races capability to counter it is obviously going to lead to some problems.

your guys' thoughts on this?

Oh wow, those are big changes indeed.

I like how FG no longer affects air units, it'll make my cloaked Banshees stronger and Medivacs will actually have a chance of 'running' away.
It'll also make Mutas way more effective in ZvZ too.

Void Ray speed is gone? *Celebrates*
Wait, does that mean Vikings can actually kite them around now?
Also, glad to see they'll actually be effective against Thors; many people think they were a bit OP in PvT since energy was removed.
Ouch... observers are going to be cheaper. I guess that's the end of the Banshee+Cloak rushes.

Another change I saw as the SCV repair threat priority, which is an interesting change too. Can't say I'm too happy about that but it's still a nice fix, hahah.

Strange; they seem to have changed bunker construction time from 35 to 30 in the PTR. Any idea why?

I have no problems with the infestor nerf, but I feel like the toss buffs were a bit overkill on this one.

First off: Observer cost decrease? That's bullshit, seriously. As if the observer wasn't already so damn good with it's cloak and detect abilities, even at the cost of 50/100 seemed a little too cheap, especially in comparison to the zerg's only form of mobile detect, the overseer.

The upgrade to overseer should cost only 50 gas, and remove it's speed without the upgrade, imo.

I feel like the phoenixes weren't getting the love they deserved anymore, but don't feel like was necessarily the right way of making them more used, I feel like they'll just become too damn difficult to deal with in an early game scenario, especially, once again against zerg.

Before it wasn't too bad, the phoenixes could do their thing, but enough queens could hold them off well enough, I dunno, it feels like getting phoenixes out faster wasn't the right choice, perhaps just a bit cheaper.

I dunno about the 20% voidray against massive either, kind of puts them at an unfair advantage against the Thor, which is becoming less and less of a useful unit in the game, considering how well it's suppose to do against air, but a muta magic box trick can deal with them no problem, and if the voidray's damage is greatly affected by this buff, the VR's might be able to render Thors useless, Toss already had a decent counter to the Thor I felt with immortals, 20% bonus against massive just doesn't seem like the right choice.

Personally I felt the Voidrays were fine the way they were, even with flux veins, they did become a bit too effective in critical mass, such that to the point they seem impossible to deal with, but that's kind of your own fault for letting it get to that point.

Bunker build time seems odd considering they nerfed it, and now they want to bring it back? I thought it was fine where it was, but I have no problems with it otherwise.

I do like the hallucination buff though, it's an ability not often enough used, and by getting it out faster hopefully some clever protoss players will begin to emerge and use the hallucination ability more often in creative ways.

Okay, got to read them. I gotta say I can't really find anything I disagree with except for the one about larvae production. I cannot stress how much I disagree with this. Say I've got a full army but I've been pumping larvae the entire time in anticipation of losing it. I now have to hit a hotkey for every single larvae in stock. That's 37+ larvae! One the one hand, my APM goes up. On the other, my army isn't ready to defend yet cuz I'm still clicking hotkeys!

Didn't even know you could do that with larva haha... but spamming the key for the unit you need isn't that bad >.>

That may be. I dunno, ever since I learned you could queue up all your larva with one key stroke that's what I've been doing. But the thing is, Zerg is really hurt by this. Currently, ever race can do that. But it doesn't matter so much because on average they'll only be able to queue up five units before moving to a different queue line. They're already used to breaking up their unit production based on that limit. But Zerg has only one production line (if you've got all your Hatcheries in the same control group). So it was nice to look at the box, see 15 larva and holding Z for two seconds to make 15 Zerglings instead of pounding Z for every single one I want to make. This is really gonna slow us down, as if we needed that.

Edit: This is why I need to go back to school. 47, not 37. Can't do it in my head anymore. xd

Only thing I'm super interested in is that infestor change. I can't even call it a nerf really, because it makes sense. How would a big beetle/slug thing be able to spit gooey crap all over an airship? The only thing is, now I'm trying to remember if the Brood War queen ability slowed down air as well... just out of curiosity.

If I remember correctly, it did. I'm not really bent on that, though, since I rarely used Fungal Growth. However, I could see how it could be hated/loved. This larva thing, though, is absolutely race breaking.

Not for me. I've always used individual hotkey presses to morph each larva. So I guess it won't affect me since I'm used to it. Lucky. :3

Eh, I just tried it. I suppose I could get used to it though I personally feel I shouldn't have to. It's not a cheat, it's not an exploit, it's not a glitch, and everyone is capable of doing it. Don't see why it needs to be removed.

On another subject, I dunno what they did to improve the graphics but I am LOVING it. I set everything to the highest possible setting to see what it looked like and I'm getting roughly the same fps as if I had it set to High (what I normally have it set at). The game recommends I have everything at Medium and a less-than-native resolution. I thought for sure Extreme setting would nuke my video card! xD

Haven't tried the graphics yet, but now I'm definitely checking it out.

Kinda neutral about FG, most effectively I saw it being used against air was with mass VR, but like C4D said, it's your own fault for letting it build up to that level.
The VR bonus to massive is kinda unnecessary.
