Crown stood next to his siblings, his little ears wings switching between fluttering on his head in excitment and lying flat with nerves. He didn't know what was happening, just that he had helped gather three things that his mother had been craving while pregnant -silver birch tree bark, berries from a warm place and blue wildflowers- Renesme had told him that she believed the blue wildflowers was to aid the throwback present in his pelt... a throwback all the way to Scythe, the father of the mare in front of him.
He looked at her, Sengdroma was her name, and sometimes he felt very indimidated by her.... she had a strong presence, and Crown knew that many of the herd would go to her for advice. He could see why, but still... he didn't really know her yet.
Crown looked up at his mother, nerves evident in his expression as looked for reasurrance. If he knew why he was here then he was sure he could shake his nerves.... maybe they would find out soon.
Renesme felt a flutter of pride in her heart as she looked at her three angels, the ceremony would start soon. Each of her children would be christianed into the herd today. Eden, Paris and Crown Cullen. Official members of the herd. Renesme knew that even before they became official members any of the her herdmates would have taken them in in a heartbeat had anything happened to her or her mate.
Herd, family, one. They were all there to support each other, wrapped in the strength and love of the alpha, Sengdroma and her protector Maion. Earlier that day Sengdroma had come to visit Renesme, to check that she was ok after her difficult birth and to see if there was anything she needed to do to aid her recovery. It had been a nice gesture, and made Renesme feel stronger because of the support around her.
She looked around. Her three beautiful children surrounded by the love and strength of the mares of the herd. On the ground were the offerings of her pregnancy cravings, afterall it was tradition to share them during a christianing so that everyone was connected.
She smiled, nipped her sons ear softly to reassure him. He was nervous, it was clear and she didn't want him to be. Everything would be revealed to him in time.....
Chandra looked to her mother before saying softly; "It's time mother." She smiled, eyes gazing up at the sky. The Moon was full, the sky was clear and already the reflection of perfection shimmered over the lake. The perfect conditions to extend the family.
Chandra could still remember when she once stood in Crown, Eden and Paris's place. She had been nervous, when her mother stood before her like she was about to with these three foals she had felt her heart flutter... for she saw not her mother, but the herd alpha. Strong, powerful, wise.... all qualities that made up her beautiful mother, yet at the same time a tenderness that was hard to describe. It was clear her mother would do anything for her herd and family. For they where hers to protect. Such responsibility.... Chandra wasn't sure she could ever be ready for such a task. |

 Sengdroma smiled as she watched the young foals and their mother wait for the beginning of the ceremony. This was one of her favorite duties as Alpha of the herd, she got just as excited as the little ones did about them "Really" becoming part of the herd, even though in her heart, this was just a formality.
She smiled and nodded and Chandra announced the time, "Let us begin," she spoke softly before centering herself in front of the children and the others.
The moon shone down upon their small lake, it had been a place of great comfort and peace for this herd. A perfect location for one of their most sacred ceremonies.
Sengdroma raised her head to a regal position, straightening her back and posture before she began to talk.
She smiled, then began, "The time has come, that we welcome new life into the herd once more. Renesme and Rune have blessed us with three beautiful foals to call our own.
Crown, Paris, and Eden....
Tonight this herd makes a lifelong pledge to you and your future families. The members of Miakoda pledge you our love, loyalty, protection, and wisdom. Should anything evil befall of on your parents, know that you have safety here and that Miakoda will take you in..."
She turned looking to her two daughters, she nodded, the sign to distribute the offerings that they had gathered. She would wait until this was done before continuing.
 Io was beaming from ear to ear, she too remembered the day that she and her two siblings stood before their mother. It was a ceremony between the women of the herd, she had found it funny when she was a foal that no men were allowed, but now she understood. It was expanding the scope of "Mother" to these foals, letting them know that they would always be wanted and protected here.
At her mother's nod, Io carefully started picking up some of the birch bark to place in front of everyone participating. First Renesme, then the children, Chan, herself, and finally her mother. Piece by piece she delivered them silently, waiting on her mother to continue. |

Chandra smiled and copied her sister Io, but unlike her sister she started to distribute the berries, dragging them on the leaf and giving them a shake when she wanted to cause a few to fall out. She went the opposite way round to Io, meeting her back at the last of the objects. The blue wildflowers, Chandra had always been curious what they would taste like, but blue flowers were usually hard to come by -trust Renesme to crave something so rare.
Softly she whispered to her sister, trying not to interupt the ceremony too much; "I'll take half and you take half Io." Then she took a handful in her mouth before starting towards Renesme and her foals once more. She placed a single flower in front of each so that it joined with the bark and berries.
Crown wiggled his tail playfully, his little face lighting up at the announcement of officially become part of the herd. It was nice... feeling part of something, like he was growing up. A wide grin covered his face as he watched the alpha tell them more... then as the food arrived he heard his stomach rumble. How embarassing, Crown had only eaten a short while ago but here he was blushing like a tomarto. His head wings flatterened in alarm and he hoped no one else would notice.
He looked to Eden and half grinned in an effort to hide his feelings... somehow his older sister always knew the truth. He looked away to the two beautiful mares he had seen around before, they were Angeni like their father but there was no denying them as Sengdroma's daughters. He could see the blue in their pelts and couldn't help but look at the blue in his own. Was he related? He didn't know. Everything was silent now... he would have to ask later.
Renesme stood proudly watching the festivities, Crown in particular seemed to be struck with a mixture of emotions. Paris was wiggling excitedly, and Eden was... well Eden, she looked cold and practical on the outside yet she seemed to be enjoying herself still.

Io smiled at Chan's suggestion, her sister was so smart. She gave a simple nod and picked up the remaining flowers. She made her round the opposite way of Chandra, delivering a flower to each. She did best not to laugh as she remember the days she and Chan had gone in search of these blasted flowers when Renesme would crave them. They had a few good adventures trying to reach these jokers. Good times...
Once everything had been distributed, Io took her place next to her sister with a proud smile upon her face. She had helped her sister ready Renesme for the birth of these three, she couldn't be more proud of them.

Sengdroma smiled as she watched her daughters pass out the snacks that they would soon all share. Once they were finished and took their place at her side, she continued.
"Each of these items that have been laid in front of you are desires of your mother while she carried you in her womb. Each of these items helped to provide nutrients to your small bodies until you were ready to enter the world with us, making you strong and healthy. Today we will share these with one another to symbolize the links that we will share until death."
One by one she looked at the small foals, offering them a reassuring smile.
She carefully nosed out the blue flower. "The blue flower, Crown, is connected to you. Taking in this morsel, we take you unto ourselves. We will protect you and love you till death." she gently lowered her mouth to take in the blue flower delicately.
She waited for the others to follow her example. She did the same for Paris and Eden. Explaining their connection and welcoming to the herd with her promise of protection and love. She gently took each morsel to her mouth, completing this part of the ceremony.
She raised her head, waiting for everyone to complete before she moved on.

Crown followed suit, first eating the blue wildflower... funny enough his mother had told him that she believed the blue wildflower represented him and was his craving. Something about it allowing the throwback to shine through. Again he looked at the blue in his pelt... where did that come from? His father Rune was more green in colour, and his mother was anything but.... so where did the blue appear? He looked to Sengdroma and her daughters again.
As Sengdroma spoke to him of the herd vowing to protect and love him until death he smiled and mouthed two words; "Thank you" soundless since he still wondered if he was allowed to speak or not. Still, he quickly ate his three treats, deciding that he actually did enjoy the wildflower best and would have to ask Eden if she liked her bark or Paris if he liked his berries more. Maybe the real reason their mother had craved it was because she was getting a hint of what foods her children would like.
He looked to her, smiled as she finished of the wildflower, she had left them until last... did that mean she liked them best too? Crown had heard the phrase 'Save the best till last' from Chandra, who claimed to be the youngest of her three siblings. Crown was the middle child.
Renesme ate as commanded, trying to stop a well of tears tumbling down her cheeks at how proud her children were making her, they were all on her best behaviour. Lively Paris, Partical Eden and even Loyal Crown. Her three little angels.
Chandra finished up her snacks easily, she had been so excited about the ceremony and being one of the welcoming mares rather than the participants that she had skipped lunch by accident. She was just thankful that it wasn't rumbling.

Renesme watched each of her children go with Sengdroma for a 'talk', it always suprised her how insightful the older mare could be at times -almost as if she could see deep within the soul of another and give them words that would help lead them right should they listen. She smiled, watching little Eden leave first. The eldest of her three, and although it was only by a few moment sometimes she was sure it was by years.
She chuckled, looking to Crown and Paris. "You have done very well." She chirped, now the main part of the ceremony was over, and while Sengdroma was away talking and guiding her foals one-by-one she saw no harm in talking to them herself, after all they had been quiet and well behaved for so long. She nipped Crown's fastly growing mane, tucking a strand behind his ear before smiling once more. "I can't believe my two chirpy chatty lads had managed to stay quiet for so long.... I think I need to steal the alphas secret!" She winked. Teasing and playing with her children was so much fun... she loved it!
Crown giggled but tried not to wiggle as his mother grabbed a strand of his hair and moved it. His hair seemed to grow fast than his siblings and his father had already told him that if annoyed him too much he would take him to someone who could cut it for him. He didn't know what he wanted... long or short hair? Surely if he growed this fast having it long would be easier? But would it get in the way? He pouted... so much to decide. "No Mummy.... you asked us to behave and we did." He said in an effort to comfort his mother. Crown didn't like it when he felt anyone was upset, he wanted to keep everyone happy and protected and wanted to one day join Maion and his rank of herd protectors to help keep everyone safe. Crown didn't want to be in charge, he was happy taking orders.... but for him, simply getting to help would be a reward.
He smiled and wiggled, looking at the two older girls that had helped out in the ceremony. The blue one in particular caught his interest... did his own blue have anything to do with her blue? Crown didn't really know much about genes or family lines... all he knew so far was that his mother was Renesme -all peaches and ribbons- his father was Rune -green with very large wings- and they were all part of a herd called the Miakoda herd, lead by their alpha Sengdroma and her protector Maion.
Since then Crown had been spending his time learning about the protectors... watching the training sessions run by Drashi and even having a 'secret' conversation with Maion. Maion had told him that it would be their little secret, but Crown had revealed to him that he wanted to grow up big and strong like him one day.... maybe his wish would come true? He had made it under the Moon after all. He looked up at the now full Moon.... should he wish again?
Eden returned and Paris was taken away. Crowns heart leaped and jumped in his chest. What would happen? Eden had refused to tell him anything and now he felt nervous. "Mummy?" He asked, his little eyes darting to her as he spied a skipping Paris and a graceful Sengdroma returning to them. All his mother did was nod.
Crown gulped. Looking up at Sengdroma for several long moments. Time froze for him and he wondered what would happen?
Then he had a thought, he wanted to be like Maion... strong and brave. Well, he needed to be brave now! Taking one last glance at everyone around him he nodded to his alpha softly before following her. His heart beat like a drum within his chest.

Sengdroma smiled as the little colt waited his turn, she nodded and spoke softly, "Come on, Crown."
She waited to for Crown to start before she turned, she was proud of all of them. She had watched little Crown as he had studied Maion, Drashi, and the others. She could tell that this little one would be a fierce protector as he grew older. Taking small, steady steps, she waited until they were at the other side of the lake. Slowly she lowered her body to the ground, motioning for Crown to come take his place next to her.
"I have seen what is in your heart, Crown. I have watched as you have studied Maion and the others." her smile was broad as she nuzzled the young foal. "The protectors of this herd come from a line of fierce warriors. Their hearts are pure and they are wise beyond their years, little Crown. You will be wise to learn as much as you can and start your journey to join their ranks now." she leaned her shouldering into the foal, her eyes turning to the stars in the night sky.
"Look up there." she was refering to the stars that dotted the skies, "Each of those stars represents a brave soquili that has passed from our realm. If your heart is pure and you do your best during your life, when you pass, you too shall join them in the skies."
She took a moment looking over to Crown, "As alpha of this herd, I ask that you take your place among the future protectors of our family and friends. Will you accept my request and train to be the best that you can become for the safety of our future?"
She paused to let this all soak in.

When Sengdroma first spoke Crown felt his cheeks tinge red with embarassement -he wasn't embarassed by his dream, but by the fact he had been caught spying. He hadn't meant to... well, not the first time at least. Crown had simply been trying to explore when he had stumbled across Drashi, Aether, Rune and a few he didn't know the names of training in the forest. Endurance training of some sort.... of course Crown had attempted to copy them, moving the biggest log his could manage back and forth before finally collpasing. When next he found them they had been running... so again he copied. Perhaps he hadn't been as secretive as he would have hoped.
He was about to say sorry when he was instructed to look up at the sky. Automatically he did so. Crown was very good at following orders.
The sky was beautiful, the Moon full and surrounded by a million tiny twinkling lights that called to him. He wanted to fly.... he had so much to learn. Would he ever become one of those elegant stars?
Still he allowed his attention to be stolen from him again as Sengdroma spoke once more. He turned to look at her, feeling the strong heat of her body against his much smaller form.
Yet, as her words sunk in... Crown felt, stunned! Was he being handed his dream? He knew it would be hard work, and certainly wouldn't come over night to him... but still... she was offering him a place to train and learn the ways of the herd protectors. He knew his ear wings were wiggling with excitment and happiness, but they had a mind of their own and refused to obey Crowns order to stop. It didn't take much thinking for two reasons. His mother had told him to do everything he was asked to be their alpha and protector.... and the second was, he really wanted this! "I accept alpha." He chimed, his tail now wiggling with joy like his head wings.
