The gryphon had managed to some how survive the morning so far with her and Lizzy's pumpkin lovingly deemed 'sprout'. That alone was an accomplishment for Tahki at least. The pumpkin was staying nice and quiet in its pumpkin form which was what Tahki wanted. No screaming little baby to terrorize her. No sir. Hopefully.
The fact that Tahki was terrified of the thing was obvious in the way she picked it up with cleaning gloves on. Not that Tahki was a germ-a-phob but she wanted to be as careful as possible to not increase the risk of having a screaming baby for her and Lizzy. Tahki wanted to pass this project with flying colors after all.
One thing plants loved was sunlight. So naturally Tahki, cleaning gloves and all, had decided it was a delightful diea to take little 'Sprout' out side on a field trip. The little pumpkin sat comfortably in a basket while Tahki sat quite stiff and awkwardly. The gryphons ears were perked and her focus was on the surroundings. A true and perfect bred guardian of treasure was what Tahki was even if she didn't like being deemed as such.

It was a little known fact that, when not looking for a delicious meal of brains to devour, Riley thoroughly enjoyed nothing more than keeping in shape. She loved the way it felt to run, to feel the wind whipped through her tentacles as she forced her body above and beyond it's physical limits. This was, perhaps, why she hadn't met any students personally yet; once she had settled into her personal space, she had spent most of her free time doing a flash of exploring at a joggers pace.
This exercise had proven futile for her focus, however, as plans required she do meet some members of this new society she had been thrust into. It was with this stray thought in mind that she ran, full speed, right by Tahki. Lost in thought, she hadn't noticed her until it was too late to stop at a decent distance. Instead, she slowed to a halt, and stood for a moment quite a few feet away with her back to Tahki.
She stood there, weighing the pros and cons to the idea of turning back, before a decision was made. Her head slowly turned back towards Tahki, tentacles shifting liquidly around her head. The body swiveled to join the head in the proper direction, and she walked towards the gryphon at a leisurely pace.
Once she had closed the distance, she buckled down to one knee and turned her head gently to one side. Her chest heaved, clearly still out of breath from running; despite the fact that she had no mouth to breathe from.
A long tendrilled hand rose, and she waved non-committally while sending a greeting through her thoughts, into Tahki's mind.
Hi.

Tahkis guardian duties were interrupted by a blur of color that took the gryphons almost full attention. Tahkis head turned to get a better look just as the figure came to a hault. The fact that the nameless figure came to a hault struck Tahki as odd since there seemed to be no reason for the hault. No obstacle laid in the runners path after all.
And then the figures head turned fully around in a one eighty motion. Oh dear god! Tahki couldn't hide the confusion and or shock that was now streaming onto her features. Was.. the runner looking at her? And then the body of the runner turned in a very odd manner to. The gryphon scuttled a little closer to her 'Sprout' in the confusion unsure of what else to do.
The strangeness of the limb turning or the student wasn't really what Tahki was nervous about as much as the fact the other nameless student seemed to be walking over toward her. Oh dear god! SOCIAL INTERACTION!? Tahki quickly looked to her left and right to see maybe if she was looking at some one else. Nope, just her. SWEET JACK!
And then she heard in her mind a greeting. Tahki wide eyed and just a lot nervous gave the student a smile.
"H-h-hi." The gryphon lifted one gloved hand in a wave motion. "I .. I .. C-can I help you?" Tahki could only assume the reason anyone would want to talk to her is fi they maybe needed something. Such a low self esteemed gryphon was Tahki.

The poor thing looked like a deer caught in headlights, Riley observed. She stilled, and dropped down to more of an indian style seated position, to converse more comfortably.
The question was loaded, and Riley's initial, kneejerk answer was a lowly emitted Probably. The word would feel like an echoed whisper, a caress, but her next words were in a stronger, normal sounding thought.
I haven't met anyone here yet. Would you mind if I stayed here and chatted with you for a bit? I have no one else to talk to.
She only then caught notice of the pumpkin in a basket, and her bright eyes focused intensely on it.
What's that? Riley questioned, stretching one long finger to point at the pumpkin. Maybe the girl was having a picnic. Alone? How sad.

Tahki eased a bit when Riley took up a seat with her. The gryphon took a breath and watched the new comer. It was strange having some one talk telepathically rather then converse with ones mouth. Strange but the gryphon didn't mind it.
"Y-you haven't met anyone?" Tahki blinked. "N-no not at all I don't mind." Tahki spread out more blanket in an almost panicked manner to share with the new student. "H-here the grass probably isn't as comfortable." Her sentence came out a tad rushed.
Then Riley questioned the pumpkin and Tahki felt her face turn a hot pink color. Oh dear how awkward to explain what she was doing with a pumpkin. The gryphon laced her gloved fingers together and let her thumbs nervously twiddle.
"W-well.." She began looking off to the side for a moment, "Its for Se-se-se-se-se-se-se-se-se-se-se-sex-ed class." Saying the word sex seemed to just cause a lot more flustered pink to rush to the gryphons face. "The pumpkins a group project. Todays my turn to take care of it .. only Im worried it could ... you know hatch," She whispered the last part in fear it might actually hatch.

Riley shook her head in response to the question of having met anyone, and then looked down with open curiosity at the blanket being shared with her.
That is kind of you. The grass was sufficient, but the offer is appreciated.
With that, she moved to sit on the blanket instead, but not before brushing her backside off to make sure she didn't get grass stains on Tahki's blanket. She didn't want to be rude.
While she moved, she noticed Tahki was turning colors. It was a sickening shade of pink, and Riley successfully attempted to hide her revulsion.
There is a sex-ed class here? That sounds like fun. Do they go over all the different ways, or are they just covering the more typical, banal method of entering the female with a male protrusion?
No, Riley was not one for subtlety.
It could hatch right now? In front of us? Riley's interest was peaked. Will it attempt to feed off of us once it has hatched? Is that why you're wearing gloves, to catch it before it begins devouring you?
So many questions, so little time.

The gryphon smiled a small smile as Riley took some of the blanket. She was just about to ask the student her name when Riley asked some rather strange and embarrassing questions. Tahki fell silent and radiated more pink from her face. The pink soon faded though and was replaced with a palish green color with the mention of the baby devouring her.
After a long moment the gryphon let out a "W-WHAT?!"
Concern was probably an understatement with the look the gryphon gave the pumpkin. DEVOUR HER! Oh dear god did Lizzy know this? Did any of the other students know that they were possibly dealing with carnivorous monsters! Oh wait.. wasn't she a carnivorous monster? Still, the thought of doing battle with what ever laid in that pumpkin just lurking and waiting turned Tahkis stomach. The fact Riley had just embarrassingly described actual sexual actions had faded and was now replaced completely with the fear for her safety.
"WHAT SHOULD WE DO IF IT HATCHES!?" The gryphon started to scoot away from the pumpkin. Tahki had heard that the things in these pumpkins were terrors depending if they were raised right or wrong from their teacher Cricket. Did terror mean that they were also flesh eating... err student eating?

Ah, there. The girl was turning a much more pleasant shade of green. Riley would smile in approval, if she could smile at all.
It seemed she had come none-too-soon, as well, since Tahki looked completely surprised by the idea that a spawn could attempt to eat it's guardian. For all she knew, Riley had just saved this gryphons life. Gratitude in the form of loyalty and small favors would be greatly appreciated.
The hivemind claims that if you attempt to breed, you should always be aware that your life is forfeit to the spawn. Though, I can't blame you for not being keen on that idea. Especially if this pumpkin spawn of yours came from a class, and clearly not from your own choice of free will.
Riley lifted a finger and tapped it against her chin thoughtfully.
I would think.. the best way to survive an attack of this kind is to have a supplemental form of sustenance available for the spawn to feed off of, when it hatches. So that it doesn't attempt to do so with you, that is. However..
Riley peered at the pumpkin carefully, leaning in just a little; not too much, who knows if it could explode out and attach to her face? Jack knows that's what Riley did to her mother when she was born- May she rest in peace.
What would something like this even eat? There is always the possibility that whatever lurks within the pumpkin will simply eat the pumpkin itself, and not you at all. But, just in case.. perhaps an offering of some kind? To keep with it, in case it does emerge hungry?

Tahki had managed to back her way onto the grass. A sharp stone greeted her rear with a nice sharp stab. Tahki let out a little yip in surprise. The gryphon was sweating bullets now.
"I-i-i-its not technically my real spawn," Tahki assured the new comer. "I-i-its just a replica of what taking care of a spawn would be like? You don't think the teachers would posi-" Tahki stopped and really thought about what she was going to say before she said it. Would staff put their students at serious risk? The gryphon recalled the battle of the bands with a frown.
"Supplement?" Tahki had been gathering extra meats for when the thing hatched but she figured that the baby wouldn't eat that much so the pile of meat wasn't to terribly huge.
"Me and my partner were trying to figure that out the other day and .. well we decided that we'd try to feed it what we eat since were not sure." The gryphons ears lowered. Next time she saw Lizzy the two would have to have a talk about the possible student eating homework.
"Y-you sure know alot..errr...ummm. Im sorry what was your name?"

Riley nodded sagely, and thought it best to lean back and keep her distance from the pumpkin as well. Not too much, so as to exhibit any fright of the thing. Just enough to be safe.
That's probably wise. I would have something close by the pumpkin at all times, if I were you. So that it goes for the closest food supply, first.
Sex-Ed, with pumpkins as assignments and partners to take care of them with. She had certainly missed out on something worthwhile. Drat her timing.
My name is Riley. The sound of her name in Tahki's head would be more than just the normal thought; it would echo, as if more than one person was saying it, in different ways. One would follow with soft laughter. All the voices would cease once new words took their place in Riley's single, typically monotone thoughtstream. And I know all that my kind know. That tends to be a lot. What is your name?

Tahki watched the girl scoot a bit away from the pumpkin as well. Tahki was going to have to find a cage and fill it with meat if what this girl claimed was indeed true. Better safe then baby food.
"I'll be sure to stock up.... heh.." She gave a frightened glance at the orange terror. Oh god that thing was almost as scary as head master Hellma. Almost.
Tahki's eyes widened as Riley gave her name. If the gryphon hadn't been more concerned about the pumpkin right now she probably would have bolted right then and there and locked her self in her dorm. But as the case stood right then and there, the gryphon had a probably student eating pumpkin to look after. Escape was not an option seeing as she probably needed to be more careful handling the thing. Running with the thing under her arm was not idle.
Terror did show quite clearly upon her pretty little pale face. It took a moment for Tahki to gather her nerve to reply with her own name.
"M-my names Tahki... Tahki Yuki," The gryphon gulped.

Riley registered the terror in Tahki's face, and immediately set to work trying to figure out what had caused it. As far as she was aware, she'd only given her name, and it was a very mundane name at that. At least, she'd given her nickname, the only thing anyone here would ever know.
Perhaps Tahki had previous experience with someone named Riley, and the name disturbed her. Riley turned her hand so that the palm faced upward, holding it out in a gesture that could possibly be considered friendly, if her reach didn't extend quite so long and close to Tahki without even trying. She was aware that handshakes were customary with greetings, but not a necessity. If Tahki didn't take it, she wouldn't be insulted.
Well.. you may call me something else if you dislike the name. Liss, perhaps? I've been known by that name before.
It was clear that Riley had no idea her name had come out sounding so treacherous. It was solely a subliminal reaction to what she thought of it. The second name, Liss, came out sounding as typical and harmless as any other word she sent to the gryphon. She was being careful, this time.
It's nice to meet you, Tahki.

Tahki took a moment to let her nerves calm down also letting her face return to the nice pale tone she had before the green tint.
"L-Liss.." Tahki repeated and offered a smile. No echo came from that name so she liked it a lot better. Tahki would have taken anything as long as that echo wasn't reoccurring. Though that could have been her mind playing tricks on her since Riley didn't seem to echo with anything else. Maybe it was Tahkis own mind?
"Its nice to meet you too.." She took a moment debating on whether or not to call her Liss or Riley. Finally Tahki struck up enough nerve to go with, "Riley.." No echoes.
"Um.." The gryphon looked back over to her pumpkin 'Sprout'. "Do.. I mean.. Would you.. help me with.."Tahki motioned with her finger to the treacherous pumpkin. ".. I need to probably secure it in my room if its going to be a hazard."
Well secure it until she had a talk with Lizzy about their little probable problem.

Riley's piercing, pupil-less gaze flickered from Tahki to the pumpkin even as she waited for the gryphon to choose which name would suit her. Just in case.
As stated, Riley was not the least bit offended, or even surprised, that her hand was not taken in greeting. She curled her fingers back inward and nodded, pleased that it seemed Tahki was over her issues with the name Riley. It was preferable to be called one nickname by those of this academy, to avoid confusion.
When Tahki glanced at the pumpkin, it pulled Riley's attention once more. It seemed very stable and benign, and there was likely nothing to worry about. For now. As such, she mulled over the request for help, considering the pros and cons of the endeavor.
Pro, Tahki would be grateful for her assistance. Con, Riley could be eaten by a vile spawning beast.
Riley gazed sharply at Tahki, and felt the nervousness come off of her in waves. Her appreciation could be worth far more than the risk involved. Besides, if anyone was more prepared to battle off a flesh eating monster, it would be Riley.
Of course. She murmured with a quiet thought, and in one fluid and graceful motion she had risen from the ground, turning a full 360 degrees in a smooth pirouette, and stood facing Tahki. I will help you.
She reached an arm out, allowing Tahki to initially pick up the basket and hand it to Riley. She would not reach for it herself, in case the pumpkin reacted foully to a stranger taking hold. No sense in needlessly angering the putrid thing.

The gryphon gave a sigh of relief. She was in fact completely grateful for the assistance in handling such an unpredictable creature. Tahki knew there had to be a reason the pumpkin made her so nervous and now she knew. At least the gryphon thought she knew.
Riley's hand was taken back and then it struck the gryphon for the reason it was being held out in the first place. A friendly gesture. Tahki had been completely in shock earlier to really realize what was being offered but now it was to late to take back her rudeness. The gryphons ears wilted a little in her regret for the fact she had just been rude.
"I can do that." Tahki took another breath and eyed the basket. With a gulp the gryphon awkwardly shuffled over toward the accursed basket. Slowly Tahki extended her hand. Very delicately she let the baskets handle close inside her palm.
No activity from the pumpkin yet. Everything seemed to be stable.
Slowly Tahki picked up the basket and handed it over to the Riley. Very carefully for their safety and the safety of Tahki's and Lizzy's grade. Lizzy was counting on her to take good care of their 'Sprout'.
"T-thank you so much," The 360 thing wasn't expected but didn't seem to get a rise out of Tahki either. Just a simple lift of a brow at the most.
"Yo-you sure you want to.. take this risk?" Tahki would have to inform all the victims she came across about the flesh eaters they were handling.
Strange though, Tahki was sure when she was a pumpkin she did not eat either of her parents. Maybe they offered a sacrifice to her upon her birth. It sure was a good thing that Sex-Ed was here to clear up all of these questions.
