It had taken Amelia the better part of half an hour to hunt down Luci. Her office had moved, the Weyr had been shuffled and changed and with Sharath now an adult complete with a scandal behind her - Amelia was still irritated that people would think she'd stoop to killing someone - and despite all that... Amelia was bored. Actually, truly bored.

So the best fix? Go harass your supervisor and ask for some pointers! Otherwise known as catching-up. She hadn't had a chance to really sit down with the Weyrwoman since their return and the bloody hearings had made everything difficult for a while... especially since the irritation she felt was also echoed in Sharath, who'd gotten particularly touchy. They were good enough to inherit without use of deplorable schemes, thank-you-very-much!

"Luci!?" She called as she padded along the hall where the Weyrwoman was said to be, "Luci!? Can I talk to you? I don't know I'm supposed to sharding do anymore!" Her tone was playful, if a tad frustrated as she turned a corner. Just what were her duties now, anyway? Besides playing coy with the bronze riders, that was. Some were actually paying decent attention to her now and it was totally throwing her off her game.

"Left?"

The condemned blueriders had been sentenced to the chore of assisting the Weyrwoman for the crime of bad luck. She was there, they were there and things needed to get done. Vital, important things like hanging up an over-sized map of Pern she'd have to take down later. The islands would need to be spruced up and outlined.

Maybe.

That wasn't public information and she didn't know when it would be -- if it would be.

"It looks good there," Luci praised. "Go ahead and pin it down."

"Luci!?"

All three sets of eyes were on the corner as Amelia came around.

"Luci!? Can I talk to you? I don't know I'm supposed to sharding do anymore!"

"Don't shout in the Weyr, for one thing," Luci suggested, waving off the two riders she had roped into her task list. "Thanks, you two," she said, then faced Amelia. "What do you want me to do? Give you some hard labor? Didn't you get enough of that in Ghenza?"

Amelia frowned when she came upon the trio and gave a friendly wave to the two blueriders before they departed, "I wasn't yelling just for something to do. You've been next to impossible to find lately." She replied with a questioning look, "And... well, no. I don't particularly want to go muck out stalls or anything. But. Uh. What, exactly, am I supposed to be doing? Haven't heard much in that department."

She leaned against a wall and regarded Luci with a mild, if confident expression. "Sharath and I aren't in a wing, obviously. Basically I'm bored. We're bored. Free time's great and all but it's feeling like I'm sitting on my thumbs too much so I thought I'd come ask you if you needed help with anything and to maybe catch me up. Six months is a long time to be gone." Amelia shook her head, laughing, "Sharath is complaining about being bored... you have any idea what that's like? I think Ghenza actually did some good for her but the fact remains there's only so much I can do with a bored gold and I doubt you'd appreciate us going for countryside flights."

On the contrary, Luci chuckled, shrugged and remarked, "I wouldn't have a problem with that. Sharath is big enough to fly with her rider now, and it's not like we're bound to some code about being locked in here until the end of days."

She stepped back and admired the map, unsure of why it had piked her interest so much. D'astel had said something about wanting to patch up the raggedy old thing a while back, so that was probably to thank for the revision. Knowing where things were was a good thing for their Weyrlings, too; the sooner they learned the better.

"I know you think you have the most difficult dragon in this Weyr, Amelia, but many riders would be at war with you for that title." Luci's comment was harmless-sounding, but undoubtedly true.

Jounoth came to mind. By Chaseth's flame she didn't know how that girl handled such a little monster. More so when he was no longer the 'little' part.

"I'm training Kanaleth privately for a while right now. When she's finished we'll get to work on the goldrider's wing, but until then... All I can think to do is make her a searchdragon, though it's not something ordinarily expected of golds and there's no huge demand for candidates right now with no eggs."

Amelia visibly relaxed at that, "And for that I am eternally grateful." Stepping up alongside the Weyrwoman she regarded the map thoughtfully then smiled sadly but held her tongue. She wasn't sure what to say, really... and she felt bad, too, because she'd made mention of a poison to start but hadn't been loud enough to be heard. Had it happened another way would things have fallen into place another way?

At the comment she nodded, "I know. I get told I'm not grateful enough all the time. It's not that I don't want the position, it's like I don't want to botch it up entirely. I don't know how you do it, really. I've come to respect this so much more then before." She set a hand on her hip, and smiled, "I wouldn't have it any other way, actually."

Her expression turned sour at the mention of Kanaleth and she failed to hide it very well. "The new gold? I'm glad Dorath's finally clutched a few queens, it bodes well for the future at least... Wait a Searchdragon?" Amelia burst out laughing, immediately loving the idea. And quick question sent Sharath's way was answered by a roar of approval somewhere outside.

"You sure about that?" She asked, sending Luci a sideways glance, amused.

She had began walking, expecting Amelia to follow. Everyone followed her or H'pez, after all. The difference between them was H'pez always had an idea where he was going; Lucy tended to drift.

"Why not? Dorath was a searchdragon once and Pern didn't set ablaze for it." The Weyrwoman paused in both word and stride, pondering her age. Young, still, else she would have scowled -- her fear of aging was no one's secret and for her to react so calmly to the tally she still had much youth before her. "Not too long ago, come to think of it."

Walking again. Step-by-step to nowhere.

"And, yes, Kanaleth. You know, the other gold who is going to be your ranking equal as soon as she sizes up a bit and therefore has a status that makes it politically incorrect for you to make faces when her name is mentioned." Luci grinned a little, just a little, and gave her head the faintest of shakes. "Can't believe you two are getting catty already. Is it a boy?"

Amelia fell into step alongside the other woman, never one to just tag along. "Oh. I didn't know that. Maybe I was under rocks too often." She chuckled and shrugged, "I know who she is and what she'll be. And no, it's not a boy. At least not yet... shards I hope that doesn't become an issue."

Running a hand through her hair, Amelia pursed her lips, "It's just Sharath's always catty about anything remotely a rival. You should have heard her in Ghenza..." She shrugged, "I have to admit it was a bit of a surprise to come home to. I haven't even courted any of the riders. Sharath's been sizing them up recently but nothing seems to jump out. That's something else I'm getting tired of."

She laughed, "I sound like an old woman, complaining about everything. Sorry. I'm just not sure how to handle the boys."

Luci tucked her hair behind her ear and mostly let the commentary go undisturbed, but something fell out of line with what she deemed mindless chatter and she stopped again.

Her eyes traced the girl's face a moment. "What's that mean, exactly? I hope you're not suggesting our riders aren't up to your standards."

She'd hate to think Nalina's traditionalist hardasses had such a negative impact on all her Weyrlings. They were going to be different, nothing could be done about it, but--

"I really hope I misunderstood what you just said."

Amelia blinked, "Huh? What means what? No... that's not it. I just... uh." The girl looked around, suddenly embarrassed, "It's not that they're not good enough, it's that I've never been with a boy...? I haven't accepted their attentions because I'm a git who doesn't know what do with it...?" She pursed her lips, "And, uh, Sharath's just being Sharath? I'm not sure what the problem is?"

She'd stopped and fidgeted. "I'm... getting tired of the 'come hither' looks? And comments? I've never been given so much attention before in my life... I think it's ridiculous that the only reason they're interested is because of Sharath." Amelia bit her lower lip, wondering if her trying to be social had just backfired in an unexpected way.

Luci went from frustrated and puzzled to absolutely confounded. "That's odd," she noted thoughtfully. "Kanaleth's rider hasn't complained and I never got that much attention when Kindlely was Weyrwoman..."

No, that was wrong. She corrected herself, "I did, but not... of that sort. Not a lot of it. I'm not sure why they'd be doing that when Sharath isn't our senior gold, and even if she were, you don't have to approve of the Weyrleader. H'pez has done well, but he wasn't my first choice." Luci considered the issue and would eventually decide, "Just give me names and I'll issue them a warning. Harassing any rider is unacceptable here."

Amelia was entirely confused now and it showed, "I don't think it's got to with that." She frowned, "Nevermind. It's nothing I can't handle on my own and I'm not being harassed but going from pretty much ignored to people talking to you so much... I'd forgotten High Reaches was like that. Maybe I'm over reacting." She shook her head and moved on, an awkward air about her as she padded forward, wandering as aimlessly as Luci had been.

"But. You mentioned being a Searchrider? Basically go visit the Holds and see if Sharath likes anyone enough to point them out?" She tried to bring the conversation back on track, albeit not particularly smoothly.

Luci, at first, appeared to be distracted by the change of subject. "Yes, that's about it... except it's not really a matter of if she personally likes them rather than if she can sense their potential."

You had to be specify with these young golds. She remembered that from experience.

"And, I'm only going to say you should be proud of this Weyr no matter what shortcomings it may have. If two Hold girls had taken Telgar's golds..."

If two Hold girls had taken Telgar's golds it would be positively hysterical, but that was not a good influence on the impressionable youth that may one day take her place, so Luci avoided saying it.

"Just be proud. Is there anything else you need?"
