Kali whistled as she headed for her friend's apartment, surprisingly cheery for someone who had a shadow in a jar hanging out of their purse.
Luka glowered at her from inside the jar, squished up against the edges. As if she had put him in the jar again. This was stupid. He hated it. And her. Where were they even going? She hadn't spoken since sticking him in there, and he didn't recognize where he was. It was somewhere new, but where? It almost looked like they were going to Cain's, but this was an entirely different building.
Kali stopped at one of the doors, leaning on it as she knocked. "Hey, Adalia, it's me!" She grinned. "Open up.

Adalia looked up at the photos that she'd been flipping through as she heard the knock on her door. The initial expression of confusion on her face changed to a smile as she heard Kali's voice, and the black-haired girl got up from her seat to answer the door. Nearby, Alice paused in twirling in front of her mirror, curious as to who would be coming over. They didn't normally get visitors, after all.
"Hey Kali." The young woman smile to her redheaded friend as she opened the door. "How're you doing...? C'mon in." She stepped aside so as to allow her friend inside the apartment. It was a little messy, as many of her photos were strewn across the table - but that was normal. "It's been a while."
"Lice!" Alice hopped up onto one of the dining room chair, watching Kali curiously. "Ali?" Who was this strange woman? A friend of Adalia's? She'd never seen her before!

Kali smiled, slipping in when Adalia opened the door. "I was nearby, so I thought I'd drop in and say hello." She blinked as she spotted the little shadow twirling around in front of the mirror. She was... "Oh my god, she's so CUTE!" Kali couldn't help but squee, giggling and pointing at Alice. "Oh, where did yuo get her? What's her name? How long has she been here?" She hoped Alice wasn't like Luka. That would totally ruin it.
Speaking of Luka, she wondered how he was doing. Peeking into her purse, she saw him scowling deeply at her. Ah. Still alive, then. So he was fine.

"I'm glad that you did." Honestly, Adalia had been missing her friend for quite some time. Alice was nice company, but there was only so much conversation that one could have with a little shadow who acted like a toddler. It was nice to be around someone her age, not to mention her gender. "It's nice to see you again." A giggle escaped her as Kali spotted Alice - she'd been expecting a reaction like that. "I found her in front of my mirror. She's been here a few weeks, I suppose, and her name is Alice." She had no doubt that Alice would enjoy the new attention either.
"Alice, ali!" The little shadow danced over and came to a stop in front of Kali, peering up at her. "Lice, li?" What a pretty lady she was! No wonder she was Adalia's friend! Only a friend of Adalia's would be so pretty! What was that she was hearing though? She swore that she could hear a noise coming from the lady's purse...did she have something in there?

"Sorry, Addy." Kali giggled, flushing. "I got a bit...caught up, in things. I moved in with Uncle Viktor...and he has another kid, Dimitri. And..." She flushed. "I kind of met someone. He's very sweet, in his own way." She grinned. "And not bad on the eyes, either."
She figured she should probably greet Alice though, noticing that she seemed to be looking at her purse. Would it be wise to introduce Luka to her? Perhaps. Then again, maybe not. It wouldn't be good if Luka corrupted her.
"Hello, Alice! I'm Kali. Nice to meet you." She giggled. She was even cuter up close!
In Kali's purse, Luka chirped indignantly. He wanted out! This was absurd! Kali was just being /MEAN/!

"It's alright; I've been pretty busy myself." Between juggling school, her photgraphy, and taking care of Alice, Adalia had rarely had time to be bored. It was nice to finally get the opportunity to catch up with her friend though; there weren't many other people that Adalia hung out with on a regular basis. "You moved in with him?" Adalia was quite aware of the difficulties that her friend had been dealing with at home; if she'd finally moved out, then things must have certainly gotten bad.
A small smile came to Adalia's face as her redheaded friend mentioned meeting someone, and she was immediately intrigued. "Really? Well, you'd better fill me in then - tell me all about him. I'll put some hot chocolate on." It was the season for it, after all. Now, Adalia had never been particularly comfortable around men, but that didn't mean that she was any less curious about this guy that Kali was apparently seeing now. "Make yourself comfortable; sorry about the mess! I was sorting through my pictures before you showed up."
"Lice, ali li!" Alice smiled and did a little curtsey for Kali, the cheshire-like face that sometimes appeared beside her popping up to make a chattering noise as well. She straightened again after a moment and giggled, tilting her head at the redheaded girl. She was nice - Alice liked her already! Upon hearing the chirp, Alice's eyes returned to Kali's voice, and a curious look came to her face. "Ali, lice?" She pointed to the bag, clearly asking about what Kali had in her bag. Really, what could be making that chirping noise???

"Addy, you're always sorting through your pictures. Hey, how's your school going?" Kali called after her as she went to make the hot chocolate, gently moving some of the pictures with her fingers, digging in her purse with the other hand. If she didn't show Alice, she had a feeling that she would find a way to discover on her own; shadows had a way of doing that, it seemed.
"Alice, this is Luka. He's been very bad, though, so he's not allowed out of his jar. Luka, this is Alice. She seems well behaved. Why don't you try that sometime?" Her voice was practically dripping with malice as she shot the shadow a look. He stuck out his little black tongue, and tossed Alice what he hoped was a charming grin. It worked for Howl; so maybe it would work for him, and she would let him out when Kali wasn't looking.

In the kitchen, Adalia flushed at Kali's claim but chuckled a little. "That's not true! Sometimes I actually take photos too!" If there were a list of things that Adalia's life revolved around, then that list consisted of three things: her photography, her schooling, and (more recently) Alice. There was little else that she tended to focus on in every day life. "School's been going well; I'm passing all of my classes. It's been a little busy, but I can't really complain too much."
Luka? The one in the jar was called Luka? She imagined that whatever he'd done MUST have been bad if it had warranted putting him in a jar - why didn't he just slip out though? Couldn't he do that? Or was he broken? "Lice, ali li..." The little shadow tilted her head at the jar slightly, only to giggle when Luka tossed her a grin. Part of her wanted to let him out so that she could play with him, like she'd played with Puff, but Kali had said that he wasn't allowed, and you weren't supposed to do things that you weren't allowed doing. "Li!" she said finally with a nod of affirmation as she looked up at Kali. It was a shame though - he looked like he'd be fun to play with.
"Who do you have in a jar now?" Adalia asked as she came out of the kitchen with a tray containing three mugs of hot chocolate. She blinked as he spotted the jar that Kali had been showing her shadow and raised an eyebrow. "Should I...get another mug then? Or are you planning to keep him in there?" It looked dreadfully uncomfortable.

Kali laughed, sitting down on the couch to wait for Adalia. She set Luka down in front of her; he didn't look happy. His charming smile hadn't worked. Howl was a liar, that's what this was. Or, Alice was just impervious to smiles. He cast her a suspicious glance, wiggling around in his jar to look at her properly. She was pretty, he thought with a start, blinking. He hadn't thought THAT before. Mostly because all of the other Shadows he knew were boys. Though, Cain was pretty, in an entirely different way. He wiggled. Ugh. He wanted OUT of this stupid JAR.
"Luka's not allowed hot chocolate, and even if he was, he's not getting out of that jar until he's very, very sorry." Yes, this was still about him breaking into her room and destroying her things. She was so vindictive, sometimes...
Oh, but he WAS sorry! Didn't she see? His plan hadn't worked anyways; somehow, he'd missed one of the jars, and now he was thoroughly punished for it. Little lip wobbling, he made his eyes large, begging at Kali to let him out.

Adalia shook her head slightly as she set the tray down on the coffee table, making sure to brush the photos that covered it aside. She handed Kali her drink and let Alice scamper over to pick up hers. "Careful, it's hot." she said before taking a seat next to her redheaded friend on the couch. "He must've done something bad to warrant such a punishment." The dark-haired girl wasn't sure whether she should be amused with Luka's situation, or if she should feel bad for him. She decided to feel bad - anyone who'd pissed Kali off definitely warranted her pity.
"So, you haven't told me about this guy yet." Adalia gave her friend a small smile as she sipped on her hot chocolate. "What's he like? How'd you meet him?"
Alice giggled, waving to Luka in the jar. He didn't look anything like Puff - Puff had looked like a dragon. Luka, on the other hand, looked kind of like her. She was quite curious, needless to say. "Lice? Ali li." she chirped at the shadow trapped in the jar; even if he couldn't come out, perhaps she could still talk with him.

"He touched my stuff." Kali clarified. Anyone who knew her would know that doing so was like signing your own death warrant.
"I met him at a party. Not a normal one, either." She snuggled down into the couch with her cocoa, sipping it with a small smile. "A party for kids. Katia and Luka went, so I went with them. He was hanging around with his roommate and their shadow, Cain. Luka and Cain ended up being friends, so we had to meet up so they could play." She smiled again, staring at the floor and not noticing her own, almost wistful expression.
"His name is Lance. Lance McCoy. Black hair, green eyes, piercings. He plays guitar and sings for Body Contact. I don't know. Have you heard of them? They play in the clubs around here. He likes raves, and dresses very Goth, and he's kind of gruff, but very sweet underneath. An enormous lech, too, but he's harmless. More bark than bite, unless you let him." She didn't go into detail about what happened when you let Lance close, though her cheeks turned as red as her hair and she hid them behind her mug. "I really like him." She looked down at Luka, and his large eyes, and thought about what she had said. It was kind of thanks to Luka that she had met Lance. His little lip wobbled, and she sighed, leaning forward. With a quick twist, she opened the jar, and Luka shot out with a triumphant trill. He snuggled her head, cuddled her, then zipped over to Alice, hovering a few inches in the air.
"Lu!" He smiled. Now they could talk like normal!

Adalia didn't need anymore of an explanation to understand what Kali meant. No one messed with Kali's thing - really, it was suicidal to do such a thing. "Well, that would definitely explain it." She was surprised that Luka was still alive, if that were the case.
A smile came over the young woman's face as Kali gushed about her new boyfriend. Adalia listened intently, letting her friend tell her everything there was to tell about Lance. It was clear that the redhead was happy with her boyfriend, which was definitely nice to see - it was also a miracle, considering who Kali's uncle was. Viktor wasn't exactly the type of person that Adalia assumed would let his niece date easily. She pitied the boy who tried to go after Katia as well. "I can tell." Adalia chuckled as Kali's cheeks reddened. "And I'm glad. How long ago was it when you met him?"
Adalia grinned as Kali opened the jar to let Luka out, and Alice squealed with delight. They could play now! She was so excited! "Lice, ali li li!" Next to her, the cheshire face seemed to laugh and chuckle in a voice deeper than Alice's - it was like a different entity entirely, really. The thing would appear and disappear at random and without warning.

"Oh, I don't know...a couple months...?" She really hadn't been keeping track. "Uncle Viktor isn't exactly happy. But he's never happy." she chuckled a bit. "So, what about you? Taken any pictures of anything nice, lately?" She knew better than to ask her friend about men.
"Lu~" Luka was not put off by the face. In fact, he mimicked it with startling accuracy, before bowing at Alice, grinning. What did she want to play? He beamed, skipping over and leaning close. They could play tag. Did she like tag?

"I don't doubt it." Adalia hadn't really gotten to meet Kali's uncle formally, but she'd heard enough about him from the redhead. He didn't sound like a bad guy, just...a little moody. Well, very moody. The dark-haired girl probably would have been intimidated by him, but she was intimidated by most men, so that wasn't saying too much. "Mostly scenery." She grinned a bit. "And Alice; she's very good at posing for me. We go to the park a lot." When the weather was nice, anyway. She wondered if she'd still be able to do that now that it was winter. "We haven't gone lately though. I need to go see if we'd still be able to do it with all the snow."
'Cheshire' seemed to laugh again, while Alice giggle at Luka's mimicry. "Ali li!" He was good at that! She couldn't do stuff like that! "Li, lice." She did, in fact, like tag - she didn't get to play it often though. A grin spread over her face as she tapped Luka's nose before taking off at a run. "Lice ali!"

"Of course any Shadow that came to you would end up being good with photography. I think you just rub off on people like that, Addy." She smiled, curling her knees up toward her chest and snuggling down with her cocoa.
"Why would the snow stop you?" Kali didn't know much about photography past the fact that you took pictures by pressing a button. The technical stuff was all up Addy's alley.
"Lu!" Luka was shocked that Alice tagged him, but laughed, zipping off after her. Flying, he was much faster than Alice; but then, Luka never walked. He didn't really know how.
Tapping her on the head, he giggled, and flew higher, not realizing that she couldn't chase him up here.
