It was warm. An early mornings summer sun that baked the rouge lands, rays of different colors casting an aura of a new day across the lands. It was not the weather for hunting, but , dosing in some hidden shade and hoping for cooler temperatures to come at sundown.

In other words is was well, dreadfully boring.

Nyota like most cats, had the ability to do nothing when there was nothing to do, and her appearance did not betray how much it bothered her to do so. She looked and acted perfectly comfortable, but in her mind she ways sitting in an inferno. She wasn't stupid. A good, warm, lazy day every once in awhile was great, but this relentless heat has been nothing but warm lazy days, and it was beginning to make her brain melt.

She longed for a cool bit of a slow, trickling creek and the sound of a birds. Maybe even a small bit of rain fall would be pleasnt. Instead all she got was half-evaporated muddy waterholes, and vultures circling over head, waiting their next meal. She longed for some company more then the occasional toad or animal that would soon become dinner. She really wanted to meet some pleasant, nice, someone who can related to her.

She made her way to the only watering hole she knew hasn't dried up. Hopeing that a nice refreshing drink would cool her off from this infernal heat.

Today was the day Aras kept search for what exactly this locket held inside. The key to her past and yet she couldn't open it. Her mind could only dream of what could be inside of it. Was it all the answers she was looking for this whole time? As her mind began to wander she quickly shook her head out of all the thoughts. The important thing was that she found something, and hope was on the horizon of her views.

It was bright sunny beautiful day as she continued to walk further in the dry lands. The more the sun beat down on her red and black skin the more tired she became. "I'll never find anything like this," she whispered under her breath in the wind. Then it hit her, She realized maybe she could take just a little break from searching today. After all she did find one thing this week, and taking a break is never that bad of a thing right?

As soon as she thought of it she raced towards the first place on her mind, the nearest watering hole. Smiling from ear to ear Aras ran, and each step she took reminded her of the refreshment she was going to come to soon. "Man I'm thirsty," she thought as she looked around for the old waterhole.

As Nyota approached the watering hole and felt the water in the air,it was cool and heavy, it was just what she needed. She inched her way to the shore and began lapping at the water. The water hit her throat and in an instent she felt relief. She needed to cool off, she continued to lap at the water. The sun always beemed down on her because of her dark pelt, she hated it somtimes, like today.

The lioness muscles tightened, she felt unease. She knew the being was getting close. Nyota noticed the smell as she approached earlier, she was quite aware of the approaching creature, but the thing that worried her is were they friend or foe... She braced herself regardless but kept her leisurely appearance.

Nyota looked down at the water, glancing at her reflection. She remembered little of her cub-hood, but she would never forget that day... Sometimes she looks back at it as a sign of weakness... She was always too hopeful but she continued to believe, the memories this place held... the promises from one friend to another. It was sad, but she still held hope even after all these years she refused to stray far in hopes he would one day return... Her ears twitched and pulled her out of her daze, she looked up. Was it him... she couldn't remember his smell it’s been so long...She wished it was him... she always wished it was him... She watched and waited... her heart beating faster as the entity approached...

As soon as Aras caught sight of what appeared to be water she trotted towards it. Sure finding out her past was important, but taking care of herself was also important. Since she had no friends or family that if she were to pass out due to thirst who knew what could happen. She could be left in the same spot for days. Being stuck somewhere would then mean she would lose time in her hunt to finding her past. Lost time was one thing she could not afford to lose. Especially when this necklace around her neck made her feel so close to finishing her task.

All in all taking a break for water was definitely a good idea, at least that was what her mind had decided.

As she began nearing the watering hole, she noticed someone else was already there. She wasn't sure who but she could see the shadow of someone there. The only thing was they didn't appear to be moving that much, maybe it was cause they were lost in thought or something. Who knew.
Nonetheless Aras stopped just for a brief moment to decide if she should move forward. "I don't want to bother them but at same time..." she whispered under her breath. Her throat was so dry she knew she couldn't wait. Slowly she walked towards the waters edge trying not to make as much noise as possible.

Nyota's became less tense as she saw it was a female who approached. She seemed to be of no threat so nyota continued to lap at the water. Nyota looked up at the beautifully pelted female. She was alone, was there anyone waiting for her? Nyota finished lapping at the water and lifted her head. "Hot day isn't it?" Nyota looked at the female and gave a gentle smile.

She layed down under the shade of the nearest tree and began grooming herself. The shore was just a tad bit muddy for her liking. It was a beautiful day thought, maybe just a bit hot to enjoy it.

Nyota observed the lioness continue to lap from the watering hole. She must be really thirsty, she has yet to acknowledge her. Nyota understood the brashness for wanted to drink. It was incredibly hot.

As soon as Aras reached the waters edge, she began to lap water like there was no tomorrow. She heard the other lioness speak but her mouth was far to dry to respond. She hated to be rude but as soon as her tongue touched the water, there was no stopping it. Each time her tongue touched the waters top it would be back within seconds. She had never been so thirsty in her whole entire life. It felt as if no amount of water could ever quench her undying thirst. Though then after a few moments her body and throat had gather all she needed.

As soon as she had enough water to fill her thirst, she responded kindly to the female. "Sorry my throat has been dry for quite awhile. Though your right today is really hot, hotter than normal I think." Finally she was feeling completely refreshed. So refreshed that Aras decided that while she waited for the other lioness' response she would take a seat on the nearest shaded rock.

Nyota smiled, the lioness was friendly. "It's quite alright." She waited for the lioness finished drinking before continuing on. "Hello I'm Nyota, what brings you to these parts? Well other then the water." Nyota chuckled a little, she hardly ever saw anyone other then her own reflection. The red pelted lioness was quite beautiful too, even for a female lion, her necklace she wore was eye catching. Normally if she did see someone it was some arrogant banished pride member or a self-serving male trying to make a move on her. It was releaving to see it as a female who approached.

Nyota continued to clean her paws of the dirt and mud that were brought by the muddy shore. Nyota hated water, well she didn't hate it she would jut never go in it. She didn't understand how othe lion could just jump into the water. Nope... she was fine just drinking it. The only time she hated it was when it rain, but she didnt need to worry about that today, the blistering sun took away any thought of rain.

Aras giggled as she heard the others comment, "Well It's nice to meet you Nyota. You have such a beautiful name! As for me I'm Aras... " She finished her words with a smile and took a deep cleansing breath of the air. Upon hearing her question she began to debate with herself. Part of her wasn't sure if she should tell the other female the real reason she was out here. Would she think her quest was silly or would she understand? All the ideas bubbled around in her head, though it didn't take her long to decide that it couldn't hurt. This female looked pretty nice after all and part of her believed she might actually understand.

"Hmm ... well the water was the main reason I am here right now. Though I'm really out in these parts trying to find my past," she said with a sweet voice as she took her necklace and grasp it with in her paw-palms. She then turned her attention back to the female and asked her, "Though what brings you to these parts, Nyota?"

"Aras is a pretty name too" She smiled. She was happy someone to talk to. Its not like people haven't stopped by it's just they came so infrequently and left so quick its like she never anyone exceot those from her past." Nyota looked down, she lived here.... she always has. She didn't mind telling her story, well thats mainly because she never had anyone stay long enough to care."Well~~ I live here and i grew up here. Never really wanted to leave, I guess i never let go of my past. My den is just a short walk away." She smiled.

It was true she couldn't let go, well she could but she didn't want to. This is were she loved.... were she grew.... where she actually felt her heartbeat.... now its just an empty shell... Maybe thats why she stayed to try and feel the beat again.
