It was the time of year to start harvesting the grain, a time that Jurriaan and Jurrisk relished greatly. Being out in the fields, seeing the product of their hard work, seeing all of the things that had been passed down to them, it was most rewarding. The farmer opted to get started early, only eating a quick, hearty breakfast before heading out to the fields to work in the watery light of morning. Jurrisk lifted his head and moved to where he needed to be in order to be fitted with the equipment needed to help collect the grain that they would be harvesting.

Once everything was set up, the farmer and his Wher set to work. Jurrisk followed along his bonded, who was singing loudly as he worked. He enjoyed the mornings, after all. It wasn't too long before the baskets for holding the harvested crop were getting steadily filled. "Ah, there isn't much quite like the smell of freshly reaped grain, is there?" Jurriaan asked of the brown Wher.

"One of the better things I have encountered...Yes. Better than some of your attempts at cooking..."

The simple answer and following quip caused the already chipper Jurriaan to give a deep laugh. "You still sampled it, Jurrisk."

The transfers had gone and with them taken a sizable chunk of the Weyr's latest clutch dragons and a large portion of what patience remained with Nalina concerning these outsiders. Into the sevenday and a sunset beyond it, she was to be avoided as a matter of commonsense. No man but a deadglow would run into the waters of the sea with a tsunami in the distance. Avoiding her was not too challenging; Nalina kept mostly to herself. Sulking or raging or both, no one knew for sure.

When she became a regular sight to the Ghenzan people, her personality fell in stride with the normalcy of her presence. In those uptight council meetings and with Sojayeth (who firmly told her again and again it was better they'd left) the matter was spoken of. Outside that, the issue had succumb to a tense silence, submissive to words that very well may have been best left unspoken from the lips of an average citizen.

Nalina was her usual self from that point on -- to the outside world if nothing else -- and returned to her duties that ranged from observing Weyrling lessons to assiduous physical labor. All to help her people. All for Ghenza.

Ghenza with the best dragons and the best whers.

"Do you need help with that?" she asked Jurriaan as soon as she was within earshot.

It seemed the two of them were heading down the same road in different directions.

Other places, a goldrider would have been neatly dressed and stuffed in some room sorting out mind-numbing chore lists. So lucky were they that this was Ghenza, where goldriders were the same as all riders and all riders were the same as everyone else. Here, it was nothing strange for her to be in dirty, torn, used clothing and heading back from another harvest at another farm where she'd worked until her hands were further calloused.
