 Boniface was making his usual rounds in the forest he called home. He walked with slow, deliberate steps as he covered the borders of his territory. It was crucial for him to know every last leaf and stone and twig.
The gray fox was blind, and had been from birth. Concepts like colors and adjectives were impossible for him to really conceive as others did. Even shapes and textures gave him problems, though at least he could learn those through touch.
All Modi's had excellent hearing, due to their very large ears. Boni's hearing was on a whole other level from that, not to mention his sense of smell. Shoot, even the way the air felt to him had bearing on his "sight". It was through all of this that Boni knew about his visitor long before she probably even realized there was another fox in the area. He sat and patiently waited.

 She was back! Or on her way back at the very least. Her vanishing act of... oh how many years had it been? At this point she couldn't remember. It had been too long she decided as she glanced around her. She honestly had no idea where she was or how to get home or if she even had a home to return to. This however didn't seem to deter her as she pranced unknowingly through the other fox's area. Not that she meant to be doing such a thing she simply didn't notice.
She was happy and completely oblivious which was probably a bad thing but again she didn't really care. She was just happy to be back home! Or at least around back home or something... not in a far off land... yeah that worked. She was happy to not be in a far off land. Made perfect sense, she gave a light giggle as she bounced along.
She was just about to break into a run when she nearly bounced into another fox. "Oh... I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention. I didn't hurt you did I? Why are you sitting out here all by yourself?" She asked turning in a circle before walking around him in a circle. "Are you waiting for someone?

Boniface tilted his head. Adult, female. Normal female, judging for the height of the voice and the press of heat against him. A chuckle rumbled in the blind fox's chest. He wasn't laughing at the female, it was just how he showed good humor.
"That is quite alright, no you did not hurt me, I was sitting still so that I could listen to the forest, I am not waiting for anyone in particular." Boniface answered all the questions in the order the female had asked them to him.

Iniex tilted her head to the side slightly and nodded before she blinked. "So you are just sitting here listening to the forest then? You are... all alone?" Asked carefully as if she is treading on touchy ground for most. She looked him up and down before padding closer to stare at his eyes. "Um... are you blind?"

A small smile graced his face. "Yes. I have been since birth. It's as natural to me as sight is to you." He sniffed delicately at the air, bringing in the female's scent and comitting it to memory. "I suppose you could say I was listening to you rather than the forest. I could hear you coming, and it has been some time since another fox has wandered around this area. I admit to being curious."

Iniex gave a small smile. "Oh... I see. That is very interesting. I have never met someone who was blind before. So you can't see me at all and have never seen the world around you? In a way I find that sad... but in a way its kind of interesting. Because then you can just imagine things to be colors they aren't... like purple trees." She gave a small giggle. "Or something like that anyway." She shook her head... feeling just a touch awkward. "Oh.. whoops I didn't know anyone lived her... I am... maybe... a touch lost." She stopped that wasn't exactly right but eh.

"Purple?" Boniface looked a tad confused. "I don't know what purple is. I just know how things smell or feel or sound. Trees are a little hard for me as well." He sat down and turned his face upwards at the tree just above him. "I recognize it's smell, the the feel." He placed a paw on the smooth bark, then turned to face the female. "Can you describe it for me?"

Iniex shook her head. "It's a color... which I suppose you have never seen." She shook her head and walked over to the three standing beside him. "Sure." She took his paw that was placed on the bark and put hers over it. "This part right here is the trunk of the tree, its brown and it is big and tall and strong. The smooth feeling under your paw is bark. It goes up and up pretty high. Near the top are smaller things that just out, they look like the trunk but they are called branches. They feel just like the trunk does." She stated before pulling back to scramble up the tree and grab a leaf bringing it back down. "This." She stated taking his paw and putting it on the leaf. "This is a leaf, its normally green but in the cooler months it changes color to red or gold and eventually brown some turn orange and then brown. They grow on the limbs, oh limbs are even smaller branches that shoot out from the branch, anyway they grow on limbs. And when it gets cold they fall off and to the ground and that is what crunches under your feet from time to time." She stated simply before shaking her head again. "Sorry if I am not very good at this... I have never had to try before... but I hope that gives you some idea?"

Boniface smiled kindly. "I fear I did not understand some of it. Brown, gold, orange, red. I don't know those words. Limb and branch don't mean anything to me either, though I think I understand the shape. I've found smaller trees among the leaves on the ground, but they are rare."
His blind eyes seemed to stare past the female, even though his face was pointing at her. "You did good for your first attempt though. I am very hard to describe things to compared to one who used to see and lost their eyes. May I know your name?"

Iniex gave a soft sigh and shook her head. "They are all colors. Which you probably don't understand, but its like... well not all things in our world are black. Black is a color and there are many other colors aside from black." She stated trying her best to give him some understanding though she felt a bit bad. "I would get you a limb and a branch but... well I can't get a branch its far to big for me. But its good that you have felt smaller ones." She shook her head.
"OH! Of course you can. My name is Iniex. Whats yours?" She asked with a sweet smile not that he could see it. "Thank you, by the way. I thought I did pretty bad. I just..." She gave a frown then her tail flicking side to side in her agitation which could be felt rolling off of her.

"My name is Boniface." He shook his head. "I don't know what black is either." Boniface chuckled and ducked his head, a little embarassed. "I hope I'm not trying your patience. Others find it difficult to talk to me, having to take into account that I "see" a very different world than the one they are used to."
((Aren't limbs the big bits going from the trunk and branches that grow off the limbs?))

Iniex gave a slight shake of her head. "Hmm what is it you see? Can you describe it to me? I mean I realize you don't 'see' but your eyes what does it look like to you." She asked gently before shaking her head. "No, its alright. I just want to help... and I don't really know how."
(( Ya know... I don't really know. It's either tree then branch then limb or three, limb, branch, stick? I have no idea. ))

((Pretty sure it's trunk, limb, branch. Or branch and limb could be different words for the same thing. Thick limb thin limb, thick branch thin branch. I think sticks are usually what are found on the ground >_> ))
Boniface thought over it for a moment. He'd only attempted to explain things once, to another blind fox. She'd only recently been blinded, and he wanted to help her out.
"Well, you have to close your eyes first, it'll help. Next just sit and listen. The wind can tell you how high a tree it, by listening to it moving the branches. It's harder to pick out individual trees unless you practice a lot."
Next Boniface placed his paw back on the trunk of the tree. "Touch can tell you what kind of tree it is. Each type has a different feel to their bark. Sometimes it's subtle. Smell can give you even more than that."

Iniex did as she was instructed closing her eyes as she listened to him try to explain how he saw. It was interesting to say the least as she had expected him to say he didn't see.
She waited her ears twitching this way and that trying to catch all the different sounds now that she didn't have her eyes to rely on. It made her a bit nervous honestly but she wanted to know and thus she would keep her eyes closed.
She swiveled her head to 'look' at him though her eyes were closed so it didn't make much difference. She lifted a paw and put it on his shoulder trying to feel just how far away he was before tracing her paw down his arm and to the tree as she wasn't sure where that was either. "So you can tell things about me all without even seeing me?" She asked her voice soft now that her eyes were closed it seemingly having a calming effect on her.

Boniface hummed in his chest as a sign of confirmation. "When I met you I could tell a lot. Female, adult, regular fox. I could tell how tall you were, and from that guess the reach of your tail and length of your ears. I was even able to tell something about the company you keep, from the smell on your coat. It smelled like you'd been alone for awhile." The gentle, sympathetic smile in Boniface's voice could be heard in his tone.
