The bright colours of the flowers had dimmed and fall began to come over the land. Something what was not obvious about the young filly was the fact she was actually half flutter and as such had a great love for nature. It was quite odd that she got no traits of her father however she had a tail which was passed down from her Grandfather on her mother’s side. She had been told that as she got older she might begin to show a resemblance to her Daddy and his bloodline but for now the filly was just happy being young and playing.
She was also the palest of the bunch, both her brothers been quite bright in comparison. Both of them had beautiful butterfly wings which were indeed very pretty to look at but not as practical as hers. Where as they could just hover she had already started to scale the skies. I guess one thing she did get from daddy was her love of flying, the higher she got the more pleasurable the experience was. She was a fast learner and very courageous when it came to flying. It came naturally to her and she had no fear of heights which caused much strain on the worried heart of her mother. She was paranoid her little angel was going to fall and hurt herself. When thinking about it I guess that was a parent’s job.
She fluttered through the fields, running for a few steps before leaping and gliding softly back down to the ground, she then began to repeat the process. Chuckling as she did so, how such little things amused children. She saw her wings as a great gift y the spirits and found she was always happiest when she was using them in some way. The young filly continued to run before her legs went under her and she fell forward face-planting the ground with a thud. She lifted up her head a little shocked before she blew the hair out of her eyes and shook the dirt from her nose. “Owie...”

Vivace was not fond of the heat. Anyone looking at him could be able to understand this instantly. He was colored like ice and bare tree bark for crying out loud. Still, he could not deny that the warmth of the day, while uncomfortable for him, was pleasant. All around him things were lively. Animals of all shapes and sizes were out and about enjoying the heat of the day. The overall atmosphere filled him with a warmth far more pleasant than the heat cast off from the sun. A special light was beginning to fill him from the inside until he felt like he would burst if he did not let it out.
When he did let it free it bubbled forth in a pretty series of trills that filled the air around him like a quiet bird's song. His gray eyes closed and his wings spread as he let the song take him. While the notes were not as clear or pretty as his mother's they had their own spirit and charm. It was clear that in time his song would be a beautiful one even if that time would be years down the road. He was completely content standing alone and filling the air directly around him with sound and he would have stayed in his trance-like state for quite a long period of time had he not chosen to open his eyes and look around. The moment he did he caught sight of another winged creature gliding over the ground.
His song trailed off as he watched the sprightly creature with some amusement. He understood the joy she must have been feeling well. The first time he'd managed to get off of the ground, even though it had only been for a few seconds, it had been exhilarating. He hadn't been watching long before she suddenly took to the ground rather than the skies. He winced. Tripping and falling was also something he had experienced a fair few times.
"Are you alright?" He called out to her while simultaneously picking up a quick trot to get to her. "That looked like it hurt..."

Essance sat up slightly, her tail wagging behind her as a obvious pout came onto her face. She turned to see another coming closer to her, her face turning a deep red. She shook and looked to the side slightly before pushing herself back to her feet and looking on at the colt which had so heroically come to her rescue to make sure she was not injured. “No-no, I am fine, more pain is coming from the embarrassment of knowing someone was around to watch my epic fail than the fall itself.” She gave a nervous chuckle before she gave a small bow of her head. ”Thank you for asking though and not standing there and laughing I know a few who would have done that.” She thanked him her blue eyes taking in the new face.
He was such a pretty blue colour; it reminded her of the white snow which lay across the grounds of Eden her second home. She loved it there with her relatives in the Imp Herd however this was the place she was born and she would always see the fields as her first home. She fluttered her eyelashes and tilted her head to the side, her tuff of hair covering one of her eyes. ”So good hearted prince, what is your name?” She asked. She was told that she was royalty on her father’s side however she never felt like it. So being a princess was not all what it was cracked to be from her experience. Her eyes then drifted to his wings! Her eyes sparkling somewhat in wonder and amusement. She had always wanted to meet someone else that she could fly with outside her family and her heart seemed to be telling her that this colt would make the perfect flying buddy!
She was never one to take things slow; she was as free as a butterfly and often got carried away with her plans. Everyone she met was automatically her friend and even before she knew the name of the colt she was thinking about all the fun they could have together. Essence would never harm a fly and even though she had been told of evil in this world she had not yet experienced it. She leaned forward slightly, a gentle smile on her lips. ”Your wings are really purdy! How are they in action?”

Seeing the look on her face he almost felt bad for announcing his presence at that particular moment. Still, it would have been wrong to just ignore her even if it was embarrassing. "Thank goodness." He flashed her a relieved smile knowing that she wasn't hurt. He chose not to comment on those that would laugh. To him it seemed that those types would laugh at anything and it wasn't right. Pain wasn't funny at any rate.
Just to be certain that she was okay he gave her a quickly look over. She was a tad dusty but he could still make out her stark white coat and minty marks under it. He didn't see any reddening from cuts or scrapes so yes, he was certain that she was in fact okay. When he met her eyes again she seemed to be blinking an awful lot. Had she gotten some dust in her eye? there wasn't anything he could do about that.
When she spoke again she seemed perfectly normal but he couldn't help but laugh and shake his head. "I'm not a prince." He said grinning. Did he look like a prince or something? "I'm Vivace." He held his mouth open in a pause as he watched her eyes drift away from his and towards his back. It wasn't long before he figured out just what it was she was looking at with such bright eyes. Again, he grinned. His wings fascinated her that much even when she had wings of her own? She was strange.
"Thank you...and...they're a little weak still. I can't do much better than gliding." He confessed. It didn't make him sad, not really, he knew that he'd be able to soar with the eagles one day. That day just wasn't today. "And your wings...?" He asked nodding to the ones on her back, though he seemed to be imagining things, it looked like she had a second set almost like a reflection of the first. "How are they...ummm?" He realized he had not yet gotten her name. He hoped she would take the hint and fill him in.

“It’s very nice to meet you Vivace, I am Essence, funny that rhymes kind of.” The filly chuckled slightly amused by the fact, she could see it now, there names in lights. She tilted her head to the side, he was not a prince? It did not matter; she did not know why she said it, maybe to play a game of some sort? Everyone wanted to be known as a prince did they not. She was not going to read too much into it, instead she drew her attention back to him as he started talking about his wings. Her eyes regaining the happy sparkle they had when she had first noticed them.
She was quite a strong flyer thanks to get fathers constant games and practise however if this colt was not as advanced as her she was not going to make him feel bad by bragging. “Well, if you want we could maybe practise together. We can make a game out of it and if it helps you then all the better. I am sure you have already observed my endless grace and elegance.” She smiled knowing that she had made a fool out of herself earlier but he seemed to be nice so she did not mind poking fun at herself. “Maybe we can help each other; I have never met another with wings, proper wings. My brothers are flutters as is my father, so they cannot fly as high as I want to go and I feel bad bothering my mother all the time. We could scale the skies me and you, if you are interested in maybe teaming up?” She asked, giving him eyes which could usually only be found on a puppy dog.
She then followed his eyes to her wings; she tilted her head and turned so her side was facing him. “Touch them I dare you.” She chuckled her tail flicking. He must have never seen a angeni before, her brothers got the cool wings and colours however her ghostly second set was her own little bit of epicness that they did not possess... besides those little ones found on Constantine. However hers where bigger thus they where cooler! “They do not bite silly, I know you want to!”

He couldn't quite hear the rhyme himself, but who was he to argue about it? There were more important things to discuss at the time anyway. Things like a training game. "Ah yes, you are quite pretty in the air." He agreed. "The ground likes to get us all though." He winked at her with a little smile. He was quite certain that the earth was just jealous of those with wings that could escape it for short times.
"Never?" His face fell for the briefest of moments. Whether it was shock or pity that caused the shift he wouldn't tell. How sad for her to be alone with flutter siblings. That did leave him with one question though...what exactly was a flutter? He shrugged the thought out of his mind to be asked at a later time. All he really knew was that a good portion of his immediate family had wings like his. His brother and sister closest to his age had both been born with them and a few of his older siblings had them as well. He imagined it must be odd for her to have no one like her.
He shifted a little when she gazed at him like a little lost puppy. Yes, it must have been quite unusual and unfortunate for her indeed. "I'd be happy to---huh?" He stared at her. This girl was quite full of surprises. She wanted him to touch her wings? He eyed the regular set and then the reflection of them underneath. He assumed the second set were the ones she meant seeing as he could touch his own wings whenever he wanted.
"Ummmm...okay..." He muttered as he's eyebrows came together from nerves. He took a few soft steps towards the filly staring at them like they probably would bit him if he got too close too fast. He got the feeling she wasn't lying to him about them but they were still strange and should be treated with caution. A few more baby steps forward and he was close enough to bow his head and lip at the ghostly feathers.
Vivace couldn't decide which was stranger: the fact that even up close he couldn't completely see her second set of wings or the fact that they still felt like normal feathers despite that. Either way he was sufficiently spooked and he backed up quickly. "Those....are very nice" He said politely while making a mental note to never go near them again. "But...let's try one of those games now. Okay? That sounds fun."

“Creepy no?” She smiled slightly amused by the reaction she got when he touched her wings. She had very little concept of personal space and she did not mind people questioning her about them, it was all part of the learning experience. “Okay then a game it is!” She called not wanting to make him feel uncomfortable, she had just found her flying buddy and she did not want to scare him away with her over friendly nature. She batted her eyelashes and him some more and looked up at the air closing her eyes.
She loved her brothers and her father to pieces even if they enjoyed a different kind of flying to her, they were more about tricks and acrobatics where as she preferred to go high and fast. There was many in the land of Eden with wings like hers, who could fly up higher than even she dared to go however they where all the way in the mountains and only went up to see them once every so often. She opened them to look at the male once more, a small giggle coming from her as she was complemented on her skills. She meant it to be a sarcastic remark however he called her pretty and she appreciated this very much.
“Aww, you are going to make little ol’ me blush charmer. Thank you.” She was always told beauty was only skin deep and you did not need the approval of others, however it was nice none the less. Was he being sarcastic? She did not know but either way she was grateful if not a little new to someone paying her a complement. Sure her family said she was wonderful but hearing it from someone else was another thing because they did not have to think it. Maybe she was thinking too much into it however she wanted to return the favour. “You’re a handsome young colt yourself, let’s see how you move.”
She then quickly turned and touched her nose against his. “TAG YOUR IT!” She called before she started to run and glide across the field, not too fast to start off with, she wanted to see what he had and she was guessing he knew what tag was, everyone did right?

He gave her a very small and nervous smile when she called her own wings creepy. He wanted to say that they weren't so bad but he couldn't get the words out. So instead he stood in silence watching her with a great deal of curiosity. The only other girls he knew were related to him and he was fairly certain none of them ever acted quite like she was. She liked to blink her eyes rapidly and then close them for a while. She called him a charmer and so far he wasn't aware that he had really done anything charming.
And then, she called him handsome...and young and...
Vivace froze. She just turned around to tag him with her nose on his nose. He stared after her blankly for a few moments as his brain puzzled things together. Now, he was very familiar with the game of tag. He had been tagged and done the tagging more than his fair share of times. He could never recall tagging happening with the touch of a nose before. "What just happened?" He found himself quietly asking no one at all.
Before long he shook off the initial shock and chalked it up to girls being weird. That solved all of his problems right then and there. "Here I come!" He called out to her before racing off. He locked his wings and jumped into the air allowing the wind to carry him a short distance before his legs hit the ground. One thing he noticed quickly was that Essence was more advanced than he was. He got the feeling he would not be catching her anytime soon but he kept trying. Leaping, bounding, racing and gliding. Over and over again. It was repetitive but somehow fun.

Essence smiled as he finally came chasing after her, was it not every little girls dream to be chased by a cute boy. Even though she had not really spent much time with her Essence had a lot of her Aunt Neria’s personality running through her veins. She loved fairy tales and more than anything she was glad that she had found a potential friend; more so one with wings which made him so much better. The blue eyes of the young filly looked over at him, watching his movements; he was not as bad as he had first made out.
”Haha, catch me if you can!” She called as she leaped and glided, from the outside it must have looked like they were dancing with each other. She felt as light as a feather which was probably her favourite part of the whole experience. She closed her eyes and turned around to look at him once more. He was fun, how lucky she was that she had fallen, if not he might have not appeared to pick her back up and the two might not be playing together now.
”Do your Mummy and Daddy have wings like you? I have already told you about my brothers, do you have any?” She asked flicking her fringe out of her face. Was there not a game that she was told about, which was designed to let two people get to know each other better? There was but she could not but her hoof on it, then it clicked in the back of her head. ”Have you ever played a game called Truth or Dare?” She asked giving a innocent giggle her head wings flapping lightly. She was such a girl, just a very obvious and very shameless girl right down to her heart.
She slowed slightly, a perfect chance for him to tag her.

Vivace was actually beginning to wonder if he ever would be able to catch the girl. If he was a young sparrow than she must have been an eagle. Even on young wings she seemed to command the winds and he was barely able to beg them for help. Still, he wouldn't give up. Even if he never caught her he'd keep trying.
"My...my momma does!" He called after a particularly rough landing. The ground had come up on him a bit closer than he had anticipated but he still kept his footing. "My dad doesn't...but many of my siblings have them too." He leaped into the air again. His wings caught a small updraft giving him decent height but he still came down only a few feet away from where he had started. It had been fun going higher but he was aiming for distance, not height. Over all it hadn't really helped him so for a minute he galloped to try and make up for lost distance.
"Truth...or dare?" He asked bounding into the air again. "I've never heard of it." It was at that moment that he looked out and realized that he was almost on top of her. He'd caught her! His heart soared as he landed, charged and tapped her on the shoulder with his nose. "You...are it!" He proclaimed happily. He felt very accomplished, but at the same time a bit worn out. His wings felt a bit sore. This was the most he'd ever used them in such a short period of time.
"Let's...take a break...you can tell me about that game okay? Maybe we could play that?"

Essence smiled at him as he tagged her on the shoulder. She did not even let him win, he did it all by himself and she was happy for some odd reason. She nodded her head and leaned over to him. ”Better keep a eye out for you, did not think you were going to catch me.” She stated with a small chuckle, he seemed tired however she felt like she could go on playing with him forever, she would sometimes be out playing with her Daddy for hours on end, oh how she loved him so much. She tilted her head and made a dramatic gasp, just to joke around with him; she then tutted.
”No no no. That will not do. Okay well this game is really simple, you ask the question truth or dare and the other person picks one. If you pick truth you have to answer a question and tell the truth. If you pick dare you have to follow a command set by the other person and you have to do it. It’s just to get to know each other, we cannot be flying buddies if we are like strangers.” She explained with a excited twinkle to her eyes. She wanted to know more about Vivace, he seemed to interest her. She was still young and did not have many friends however she had a good feeling about him.
”Okay maybe I will start, I pick... truth.” She nodded thinking it mean to throw him in the deep end, they had all afternoon to play after all and she was sure her questions would be answered in time. She laid down on the ground, her long tail wrapping around her legs and her wings rested by her side. She looked up at him with a welcoming look, telling him he was allowed to come and lay down beside her.

He beamed at Essence. He had surpassed her expectations too and that made him feel good about himself. Even if it was just a little game it was wonderful. As she began explaining the rules of the next game he got the feeling that he'd do well with this one as well. It seemed simple enough. So simple that he would honestly be shocked if someone was honest to goodness bad at it. It seemed very much like a girls' game. It did not look like there would be a winner or a loser, just a lot of...getting to know each other. To him, it sounded a little boring but it would give him time to rest his wings which he felt was needed.
"Alright." He said thinking up a question that wasn't 'why can't we just be flying buddies like this' it seemed like it would be too simple of a question. "Do you like music?" He asked folding his wings to his side letting them relax in their resting position. While it seemed like a very basic question it was a very important one for him. Music was a very big part of his life.
"And...I pick dare..." He said not quite catching on to the concept that she was supposed to answer the question first. Doing it this way seemed much easier to him and faster. She'd answer and then ask. It was perfect.

Okay, so maybe she had not explained it as much as she should have, however she saw nothing wrong with doing it this way around. She smiled and tilted her head at the question. ”I cannot say I have had much experience with Music, my Mother sings hymns. My grandmother sings when she is happy but I cannot say I know how to sing or that I am very good at it. It is not something I have put much thought into.” She thought out loud. She wondered why he had asked her such a question, maybe he was stuck for what to ask or maybe music was important to him. She thought for a moment and the leaned over to him some.
Her mother was a very religious woman and she had always taught Essence about the spirits and the rules someone should live their life by. As any youngster Essence soaked in everything she was told, thinking her parents where perfect and unable of being wrong. Essence was always going to keep the teachings close to her heart and she truly did believe in a greater power. She more than anything loved her families view on marriage and romance. Even as a young one she already knew she was going to wait for the love of her life to come by. Only having one relationship just seemed so pure and right and even though she joined in with other fillies giggling about boys she knew what was right.
”Okay then, I dare you to demonstrate your musical abilities little Prince.” She smirked, it seemed like a good way to find out if he was interested in the topic and she was curious to know what he liked about it, be it singing or playing a tune. She tilted her head and gave him a warm look. ”You did not laugh at me, I won’t laugh at you, do not be shy.” She encouraged him, even if he was not any good she would not have a bad word to say about him. See, from just such a simple game she already had all these idea’s buzzing around her head about them. How much was on the money was still yet to be known.

"Oh..." He had a hard time hiding his disappointment that she didn't know much about the subject. He knew he probably shouldn't put quite so much weight on it. Not everyone was going to share his interests and there was a very good chance he wouldn't like things that others did. But there was not much else he felt like he really knew or cared about besides his family.
When she leaned over and dared him to give her a demonstration he stared at her for a moment. He'd thought that she'd be having him do something that interested her since he'd asked her a question that interested him. She seemed to mistake his shock for worry so he gave her a warm smile. "You better not." He joked ruffling his wings lightly. A familiar sense of elation filled his body as he closed his eyes. He got to sing! For a few moments he was silent waiting for the song to come to him and when it did he opened his mouth wide and let it flow out as gently as falling snow.
"I pray to protect the bright world Where everyone can smile A song of hope of light to tomorrow Giving my life to it I sing vigorously Let my voice float with the wind till I die..." The notes drifted on the wind like tiny dancers rising and falling with the breath of life. It was clear that he'd had more practice with this than his flying though he was no expert yet. At the end he allowed the tone to trail off with a gently wavering note.
For a few moments longer he simply stood basking in the warmth the song had left him. Then he opened his eyes and smiled down at the filly. "Which do you want...a question or dare?" He asked as though he'd only just answered a simple question.

Essence listened as he sang, her face dropping slightly to look at him shocked. Even after he stopped she looked on for a little longer just stunned at the voice that came out of the young colt. She turned her head to look to the floor for a moment before she looked back at him opening her mouth to talk but nothing came out. She could not believe it, she was speechless and now that was a rarity. She looked at him once more the second time words decided to grave her with their presence. “Vivace, that was beautiful. Y-you are very talented indeed. Thank you for singing for me.” She complemented him; it was indeed earned for she was not expecting anything like that.
Just because she said she had not thought about it much did not mean she was not interested, in fact if anything hearing him sing had sparkled a greater one in her, she did not want him to stop. She blushed slightly and looked down at the floor giving him those soppy puppy eyes once more. ”Well you know, you are not the best flyer and I- am far from the best singer. Maybe just maybe if y-you could maybe give me some lessons I could help you learn how to fly. I would really like to learn if you would teach me.” She knew there was no way in one million years she was ever going to be up to that level however she wanted to try. She was still a little stunned. She chuckled and shook her head, she was so into the song she almost forgot about the game they were playing.
”I pick dare, you’re not the only brave one.” She smiled and nodded her head firmly. She was indeed very glad she had suggested this game, very glad indeed. He was the best she had ever heard and even though she had not herd many it was still impressive in her eyes.
