User Image Shalar watched and listened to everything his mother and father had told him, his sisters where away and they wanted him to explore for a while -get some experiences and the such before returning and taking his place within the family. Travel.... meet others... great, two things that Shalar had very little interest in it. He knew the real reason his parents were so eager to get rid of him, they wished for Shalar to find a mate, like any parents they wanted grandchildren.

Nienna was now lifemated to a flutter stallion and they wanted the same of their other two children, the problem was that Shalar very rarely actually 'looked' at a mare for a mare.

He didn't do well with new people, never had and probably never would. The fact was Shalar prefered being on his own... even if he feared his own mind. There was a darkness within him. It creeped and crawled, wriggled like a worm within him, demanding for blood... and not his own blood, no, that would have been too simple. It wanted the blood of others, especially those that had formed crimes against their kind. Murderers, rapists, mean and evil creatures of the deepest darkness. Yet a slice of that was within him... he just resisted it with everything he could muster.

Shalar didn't want to be a monster. No he wanted to be the knight. The one that saved the madien, the one that loved life and had a reason to live. Yes, that was what Shalar wanted.

So... by his parents wishes he found himself walking. Today he was to visit the forest, he wanted to catalog several trees... look at the different fruits available this time of year. Yes, the perfect job. Expanded his knowlegde while appearing to satisfy his parents request.

The little palomino mare shuffled along through the shadows of the trees, her head was down but her brown eyes watched the world ahead of her. She'd been in the Soquili land many months now, and her wings were finally almost fully healed and with the help of Balrog she had taken to the air once or twice now. The feathers still bore the scars of he abuse, some of them showing miss colored areas where they had white markings in the shapes of teeth, some of them were still in shreds, those would eventually fall out and regrow new perfect feathers in their place.

The snake, black as fresh oil, lay curled at the back of her mind hissing at her. Kill them, kill them all that did this to you, make them pay for their stupidity.

Dolly shook the thoughts away, they wouldn't do her any good, she would be no better than them ... no she'd be worse wouldn't she? Oh yes, some deserved death for torturing a foal, but some were innocent, some she had known as foals who'd watched wide eyed and horrified. No shedding innocent blood would make her no better than the kalona or skinwalker that prowled these lands.

She shook her head, silencing the thoughts .. for now.. and kept walking her hooves crunching the dried leaves that littered the forest floor.

She paused in a patch of sunlight streaming through a small break in the trees. Dolly looked up to the blue sky beyond the leaves and for a moment dreamed of flying again, her wings stretched out slowly as the sun shown down glittering off her gold coat and ivory mane as a small breeze rustled through it. For a moment as she bathed in the sunlight the darkness evaporated all together, no soft hiss or brush of a dark thought in the back of her mind, no for now she was at peace much like when she flew.

Shalar had been walking for a while when he saw a small brown form not far ahead of him. He froze, he hadn't actually intended to find someone to talk to... just to escape the ever watchful eye of his parents. Part of him considered turning the other way and forget he had even seen another when he saw.... scars? Pain filled his heart as he looked the mare over, the scars seemed to be growing faint and white -a sign that she had bore them for a while, but still the protective part of Shalar's soul rose to the forefront and he refused to simply dismiss this creature now.

He had always found himself feeling protective towards the innocent and his family, perhaps that circle hadn't expanded simply because he didn't really know anyone outside of his close group. Perhaps... and this was a push... his parents were right, perhaps he needed to get out more. The truth was the very idea made Shalar feel ill, he didn't do well around others. Still, he wanted to check this mare and her obviously pain filled past was alright.

Slowly, cautiously he approached. Pulling his wings tightly to his sides in an effort to appear less threatening. He knew that he appeared 'strange' at first sight, his wings a combination of flutter and wind. When he spread his wings out wide all the panels on the inside of his wing was painted with the detailed mixture of purple patterns... a true butterfly. The wings on his head were just as strange. The mare seemed so relaxed in the sun that Shalar nearly changed his mind and left her in peace, but again his eyes fell on her scars and his heart ached. "Afternoon." He eventually said, eyes watching her for any signs of destress... he would rather flee that cause her such.

She hadn't expected a visitor, she had always done her best to avoid others at all costs especially if they didn't have wings.Shalar had been down wind from her and she had let her guard down enough she had never heard him coming. So when the voice came at her form the shadows she jumped, wings flailing for a minute, her brown eyes were wide with fear. Her wings snapped in close in an attempt to protect the already scarred feathers from the attacker.

But as she emerged she let out a sigh of relief and her body visibly relaxed just a bit. She didn't look hard at him right then, she just noted the fact that he -did- have wings.

"G-good morning .." her voice was quiet, reserved, and she averted her gaze.

Even still she quietly tried to study him, she'd not yet met a flutter Soquili, but his wings weren't even full flutter. He had feathers, and another pair of wings .. on his head? How interesting. His wings flared out, showing the patterns on the inside. How beautiful they were!

For a moment she felt a twang of self pity, he had reminded her she was just plain, simple as one could be. It took just that small doubt for the darkness to uncoil and latch itself back onto her mind, hissing dark whispers of power and happiness in her ears, if only she would rid the world of all those that had beaten her down and still wanted to hold her down.

Dolly's ears flicked back and forth wildly for a moment as her own mind battled against itself until she could take it no longer and gave her head a hard shake and forced the dark back down once more.

This stallion had no idea what had just transpired in a matter of seconds, but still Dolly felt shame for the evil that resided within herself looked down once again and scuffed a hoof against the ground.

Shalar didn't understand what was happening, but the mare was certainly timid. He could hear the shaking of her voice as she spoke, feel the fear... towards him? He didn't know. He raised and eyebrow and watched her for a moment. She seemed injured..... and although Shalar's unicorn blood was pretty diluted he would offer to attempt aid should she need it.

He coughed, clearing his mind and throat before he spoke again, "My name is Shalar." He had always been told that introducing yourself make you appear 'less' of a threat, make you seem like you were known and therefore safe.... he didn't know if it was true but he was willing to try anything right now. "Are you alright?"

That primitive part of Shalar that called him to protect mares and the innocent was rising forth... along with something he had always hated. The growing darkness of his heart. He tried to supress it, ignore it, but it still whispered. Vengence, death, blood.... that was all it was interested in. But Shalar... wanted to be good.
