User Image Maion had been growing more and more anxious lately. The herd was growing, two mares where currently pregnant and need of protection in the herd lands. Although Maion trusted his men when it came to the direct protection of the herd he wanted to be there for them, the connection of seeing their protector taking an interest did a lot for the herds moral and helped them heal -especially since the skinwalker attacks weren't that far behind them.

No, Maion had his duty to perform, he would guard the pregnant mares and then the baskets and foals only once they reached adulthood would he start to return his own duties to normal. He would not risk the young.

That said, Maion also had responsibilities for his other charges, he had sent Drashi to aid his own sons with their training while protecting the northern border, Amitiel was currently on guard in the South while Mal was in the West. The East wasn't as heavily monitored usually because it was open and lead to the common land usually used for single mixers between herds, but with the current baby boom Maion had placed several of his members to watch it- since none of them were warriors- their job was simply to run back to the herd lands and inform one of the guards there. Directly around Renesme and Alice were their mates Rune and Jasper, joined of course with mares and their alpha Sengdroma. Everyone was doing their part. Maion was very proud of them all.

Of course that didn't mean all of his concerns were gone, no, lately he had noticed his daughter Chandra spending more and more time with a stallion called Sonnet. He hadn't minded so much when he was teaching them to fly, during those lessons he had been able to watch both of the wild teens with ease, but with the sudden upsurge of duties and protection detail he had not be able to investigate the situation how he wanted to.

That was why he was here, at the edge of their lands doing one last sweep of the perimeter before bedding down for the night. He had heard of a stallion by the name of Jarlaxle who would take on any job for a price. Maion had summoned the stallion here, he intended to have the secretive creature watch and learn from his daughter for a while.... Maion wanted to know if Chandra was truely in love with Sonnet or simply friends.

The only problem was, he didn't know which he wanted to be true.

"Where is he?" He mumbled, looking up at the sky. It was getting late and he knew that both Sengdroma and his herdmates would be wondering about him.

Jarlaxle hummed a merry tune to himself as he leisurely strolled along. Oh sure, he had been summoned by Maion -and from the sounds of it the business was very pressing- but he saw no real reason why he should rush. He had learned long ago that by the time someone came to him for a job, they were usually very desperate to see it done. Which meant that there was no real threat to him loosing said job.

He paused to dust some imaginary lint from his cloak. Just because he intended to be fashionably late gave him no reason to not look his very best. After all, appearances were key when dealing in business. Deciding that he had stalled long enough he stepped forward into the pre-determined meeting spot.

"Maion, I presume?"

Maion had heard a soft tune in the distance, his head had turned towards it several times in interest but he wasn't sure if it was Jarlaxle, a bird or just a traveller making the noise.

Still, the old stallion wasn't overly suprised when a words broke through the distance towards him -or that his name was amoung them. "Jarlaxle," He said, turning to greet the stallion with a soft smile and a polite nod of the head. Maion wasn't 'desperate' for this job to be achieved, but somehow he felt that knowing the truth would aid him in his job... allow him to concentrate more on the imidiate duty at hand. He had of coursed tried to ask his daughter directly, but like any teens she had seen his question as an interferance from her old man -blushed and ran away. So there were no answers to be had there, he had contemplated seeking out Sonnet.... but again the issue arose that he could not venture too far from the herd. Overly cautious perhaps but Maion would not allow any of them to be harmed should another attack take place... and to be frank, Maion didn't trust his sister Kimi.

No, this was the only option left to him.... he just hoped that Jarlaxle would take it seriously and not announce his presence by humming, after all he was sure even his unobservant daughter would soon figure out something was wrong. To business. "It is a pleasure to meet you Jarlaxle, I hope your journey went well?" Maion had never dealt with this kind of issue or 'business' man before.... he could negotiate alliances without breaking a sweat.... would this be much different?
