The young mixed breed colt was sneaking stealthily around in the grass, eyes roaming the ground and ears swivelling around as he listened to the sounds of the forest. So far, his day had been rather unsuccessful if he had to say so. The stupid rabbits, where on earth had they all gone? Really they shouldn't be so hard to find...he sighed, flopping down on the grass belly up and scratching his back against the grass before rolling over again. He was hungry. And grass only went so far for him, it had been a good three days since he had had any meat and he was beginning to feel the weakness and tiredness creeping up on him again, telling him he needed some more protein. And though this new world still had many of the same types of areas as his old country, for some reason the rabbits were so much harder to find!
Standing up, Mihail gave a small buck before baring his teeth at nothing in particular. "I'm hungry! Just come out already rabbits!"
As if that would work. Still, made him feel a bit better, in some small way.

Hunting was something that Acanthus was much slower to learn than his sister Eira Linn, but he could still catch something when he really put his mind to it and concentrated. He did like hunting, however, because it gave him an adrenaline rush. It kept him interested as long as the prey didn't leave all of his senses for more than fifteen minutes. After that... well.. he was onto the next possible prey.
Flying, on the other hand, was something that was coming easily to him, though he could barely breach the tops of the trees and when he did so, he often had to push off of one tree to the next to keep himself airborne. This is exactly what he had been doing when he spotted a colt underneath him growling and yelling at.... Well... he couldn't see anything at all actually! Curious, Acanthus stops flapping and folds his wings in, attempting to land like he's seen his mama do. Just before hitting the ground, he threw out his wings... but it was too late. He tumbled head over heels in a somersault before righting himself.
He shook his wings out once and then folded them away, before nodding to the other foal. "What're ya yellin' at?" He glances about but keeps his attention on the foal, not threatened, but unsure of what the foal may have been doing.

Mihail stopped ranting at squirrels suddenly as his ears picked up something that didn't sound entirely normal. It sounded...as if something was beating the tops of the trees, causing their trunks to shake gently from side to side. Puzzled, the white colt looked upwards, just in time to see a small dark shape weaving in and out of the upper branches. The first thing he thought was that it must be a bird. A freaking massive bird. How on earth did a bird get that big, and come to think of it, a but clumsy?
Of course his assumption was soon dashed as the the bird things stopped, having spotted him and made for the ground in a decent but unpracticed way. As the shape made closer for the ground, he had a chance to see that it was in fact NOT a bird at all, but a colt! With wings. A colt with wings that was currently attempting a landing close by. And...well it sort of worked was the only way Mihail could describe it. The soquili-bird did a few flaps with his wings and ended up tumbling into a somersault and yet miraculously ending up on his feet in the end.
Mihail stared for a moment, as the darker colt looked at him, playing himself off very nonchalantly as he asked what Mihail had been yelling at. He felt a giggle bubbling in his throat, and before he could swallow out it burst out in a quick burst of laughter, as he tossed his head down and then up again.
"You just did a somersault! You should have seen yourself, it was like flap, then flap, then rolling jump! Did you mean to do that? Thats a pretty cool trick but you might wanna work on the roll a bit." He whipped his tail from side to side gleefully before processing what the colt had asked.
"Oh. Um, well I was just yelling at...rabbits. You know." He was about to say something about eating them but then he thought against it. Who knew what this colt thought of that? He had certainly encountered others that had been disgusted by it so he didn't want this colt to dislike him when they hadn't even met yet.

Good, good. Gaining his composure real quick had worked, and this time he hadn't even felt winded after his landing! Yeah, it was still really clumsy, but at least he hadn't just landed on his face and skidded along on that for while! That wasn't any fun. Past experiences had taught him quick.
The other foal was enthused, laughing-- sure he almost got offended by this, but with the excitement of this foal's next words, he just brushed it off. A sly grin made it's way across his lips and he lifted his head a little, but not high enough to seem haughty, just enough to show that he was proud of his landing. "Of course I meant to do that! Well... I had wanted to land on my feet like Mama, but when I felt I wouldn't be able to, I tucked my head in and rolled instead!" His voice, too, ran with excitement, "Better than landing on my face!" A giggle of his own escaped at the thought of him crashing through the bushes in a tangle of wings and limbs. No, he had learned from that one time. Since then, he had learned to roll whenever possible. Much cleaner that way.
He glanced around the area when the foal finally responded to his question, but didn't see any of the mentioned rabbits. Tilting his head at the other foal, he tossed his head once with, "Were ya tryin' to catch 'em? They can be really fast, 'especially when they're little. Fit under every bush!" A small scowl at other memories and a shake of the head. Oh, he knew the pains of trying to catch rabbits!
