Zinkenite nodded at the two young women assembled before him, One in brown's and one in slate-like blues.
The building behind him was one of the forgotten, due to be gutted and refitted into apartments or offices, sometimes both. The struggle to keep the city growing while it thrashed and twitched in the throws of the strange events that plagued it continued. If only they could understand the battle that was waged in the underbelly of this beast of brick and mortar.

"Behind us..." Zink said in calm tones as he lifted a long wooden down from the ground and examined its ends.
"Is a fire escape." this was obvious for anyone to see, the rusty creaky shaky contraption might provide great suspicion if it could hold the weight of one of them let alone itself, but he continued.

"We, each of us, have strengths and weaknesses in how we fight. That's something I need to know about in order to formulate team strategies.
HOWEVER, I also... want to make sure that NO one on my team is caught without at least rudimentary practice defending themselves, and working together. Most of all...we all know it can be hard to work in small spaces, if you can work in a small space I believe you can work anywhere... learn to use your surroundings to your advantage. That's why we're here."

By now he had taken a thick bar of yellow chalk and bound it, with great determination to the end of the dowel so that it was a yellow powdery spear. He then handed them each a thick piece of chalk. One pink for Fayalite, and one Lavender for Selenite, he himself then took a thick blue one.

"I'll be doing these exercises too... you'll be thrilled I have no doubt at the chance for powdery revenge. The point is of corse, to walk away with the least amount of chalk on you. The first excersise is close combat in confined space. Drawing boxes on the ground is too ambiguous... so up you go, first landing please... on my mark you may begin, I'll time you... three attempts each make them count... any questions?"

He glanced between them both expectantly.

((Roll 1 d 20 per each 'strike' - 10 and under is a miss, 11 up is a strike, rolling a 18-20 is a 'critical strike' aka lethal target chalk smear, rolling a one means you just impaled yourself on the opponents chalk earning an extra chalk strike.

Regular strikes are worth 1 point each
Critical strikes are worth 2 for those feeling competitive.

Please note that Zink will have a small advantage for being captain in his strikes - 17 and up will be critical and he hits from 10 and up, misses from 9 and down))

"Yo!" Was all she really said as she waved to the two of them a moment before she shoved her free hand into her pocket. So this was Selenite then. Fayalite added mentally, pink eyes glancing over the other female in a studying way. It was a split second glance, but it was all the information she needed to be able to recognize her later on. This WAS who Zink had asked her to watch after all... and Fayalite kept her promises.

"...Chalk, really?" She mused with good humor, turning the make shift chalk knife around in her hand. It was brilliant... use the chalk to see who turns out more like a clown. Not to mention.... using this would show where exactly they needed to watch out for and guard, and which of them needed more training. It was simple but well thought out. Then she noticed the color. Ew... Pink. Why pink. Pink was a abomination color... She actually despised pink... when she was a child she tried to paint her eyeballs once... thank lord it was non toxic childrens water colors then or she might have been partially blind. She WAS always the tomboy.

Not needing to be told twice, she summoned her lantern briefly with the intent of pulling down the ladder that lead up onto the sparring field. The rusty thing came down with a loud screeeeeeeech and clack once it hit the ground. Once up the ladder..... Fayalite moved towards the back corner of the small rectangle, facing her 'target' as she turned semi serious... semi amused. It was like being in one of those fighting rings with bars around them... only smaller with more rust and chalk sticks.

Selenite hadn't said anything since Zinkenite started talking; this was important and proper introductions would have to wait, apparently. Still, it was nice to finally be able to put a face to the name of the other member of the team. Unaware of her captain's request that Fayalite keep an eye on her, Selenite returned the quick glance with one of her own, blue eyes flickering over the other girl. Fayalite looked capable, certainly. Then again, she wouldn't have been on this team unless she was.

As the explanation continued, the bluenette nodded her understanding. How utterly typical of him to be this well-prepared. This would certainly prove useful, though she had to hope the chalk would come out of her uniform without effort; so far, nothing had permanently stained it, but ugh. Getting chalk all over herself was not going to be fun. Nor would spending time on that rusty looking fire escape; Selenite was a bit afraid it would come crashing down once they started fighting.

But she didn't say anything, taking her chalk-knife in one gloved hand and hefting it experimentally. It was about the same length as her pointer which - judging from the lantern that Fayalite summoned - would possibly give her a slight advantage. Following her teammate up the ladder, she stood poised, waiting for Zinkenite's word to attack. Only three strikes? This was going to be interesting.

"Alright!" Zinkenite called with a nod and a clap of his hands. He looked monumentally pleased already, and they had not even begun fighting. He had noted though the creative use of the lantern, and Selenite's careful judgement of the length of the chalk.
How they would deal with everything else he had in store, he hoped it would be just as pleasing.

"GO!" He said sharp and clear so they both could hear.

Fayalite was not used to fighting with something so...short? Her real weapon being back in negaspace, she could not deny the awkward feeling from not having something longer to fight with. Pink eyes looked up, unsure of what Selenites own weapon was... but she had a sinking suspicion it was something smaller. She held her weapon as if she was used to short ranged weapon... or at least thats what it appeared to be. Truth? Fayalite had no friggin idea.

At the sound of their captain, Fayalite struck out, a quick attempt to get a mark early. She ran at the other woman, sword extended. She got close, only to barely miss.

It was pretty obvious to Selenite that she would have an advantage in this fight as Fayalite moved in as soon as Zinkenite snapped off the order to begin. The other girl was horribly overextended, and the bluenette easily dodged the attack, stepping only slightly out of the way.

This was, of course, an excellent way for her to make her first strike and she did so, slashing the chalk-knife at Fayalite's exposed stomach.

Ah yeah, the girl was clearly short ranged. She stepped out of the attack easily when she lunged, something that caused Faya to pull her weapon back in close...

The attack hit, putting a rather clashing large lavender stain on her stomach. Had they been using REAL knives that attack out of disemboweled her.

With not much room to move (She hated the lack of space) with a growl, she switched the chalk sword from her right to her left, and made a slash at Selenites side.

A small, satisfied grin flickered briefly across her face as the attack went home (and how!). That lavender slash was rather impressive, all things considered.

Unfortunately, Selenite was a little slow turning to block Fayalite's next attack and was rewarded for her lack of speed with a pink mark on her arm. Better there than in the stomach, although she supposed technically the arm might be marked as out of commission or that she was losing strength because of it. Then again, this was only a three hit bout, and Selenite swung her chalk at Fayalite's leg, dropping down into a crouch to get a better angle.

Three round match... she had to do SOME sort of damage. She was no way in hell a close range fighter, the 'kill shot' on her stomach being proof of that. Though she had to try.

The thought was barely out of her mind as she felt yet another attack hit her leg... something that also would have, if she was in a true fight, hurt like a b***h and cause her movement to suck.

Though, while she was bent over her leg fayalite ran behind her... and put the chalk vertically down her back... as long as she could.

Mentally cursing herself for having left her back so exposed (though it might not have been as much of a problem in a real fight), Selenite flinched away from her teammate's attack.

Spinning around without standing up, the bluenette jabbed the chalk stick straight out at Fayalite, slashing upwards as her blow hit home.

"WELL done..." Zinkenite said sounding legitimately impressed.
"Excellent work Selenite, and good adaptation time Fayalite...alright... Selenite, come down for a moment while I take a round with Faya...3 strikes each, then we'll swap alright?" He said with a nod. He waited for Selenite to come down the ladder and took it when she had her boots firmly on the ground... "Both of you dust off as best you can, it came off my coat well enough so there shouldn't be too much trouble." He noted as he climbed up.

"Selenite, your to observe this round, see what you can learn just from watching the fight rather than participating."

Fayalite grunted as the last slash hit her, a moment of triumph of the KO hit being washed away when she just got an 'alright' from their Captain. Well... it wasn't like she thrived on praise, but was her fighting THAT bad to just be 'alright'? She just made a more determined face... Fayalite was NO show off but hell if she wasn't going to try and improve. She dusted off the chalk, a few lavender smears here and there remaining even after the quick brushing.

Man she needed to practice more with close range combat, looks like she got her wish...

So, to show that she WAS taking this seriously... Just as zink was reaching the top of the stairs, she made a point to duck forward, and try to go low and nail him on his thigh. First attack attempt point: Make them not able to run or move around without a struggle.

There was something in his eyes, calculating and studious, he was a small thin target to hit, robed in cloth that made the exact points where he ended and coat began more difficult to place than they might have been. The off black color made him blend into the evening with far more accuracy than had he worn strait black as well.
He looked pleased, his words may have been lack luster but the look he gave was not.
His return strike was almost infuriatingly casual, just a subtle turn that made what should have been a miss graze just under your ribs and around your side. Not lethal but it would have hurt like blazes.
He also did something more, he 'favored' the leg you had struck just slightly with a crease at the corners of his eyes to show he was enjoying this game..
learning and teaching all at once.

Crap, did she leave her torso THAT open to such clean attacks that Selenite got that kill blow in earlier, and Zink under her ribs? Not a kill blow but... she still out of reflex, clasped her free hand across her chest and clasped her side. Something she would have done probably if it were a real wound anyways, being a reflex... it still counted for realism right?

Still crouched, she let go of her side and used the bars of the fire escape to hoist herself up... but also to give herself a little more momentum as she attempted another jab with her chalk sword.

The jab took him high, glancing over the top of his shoulder which he let drop slightly in 'pain' not debilitating but painful, much like the one across her ribs just moments ago.
He nodded with a murmured "Very good." and a brief glance at where she had hoisted herself before he made his next move.

He marked a line of chalk up the outside of her wrist that tapered towards her elbow. again not a shallow cut and irritatingly casual... was he trying to raise her ire?
"Again!" He said his tone sharp and expectant.
